Boy this T20 is awful, its like they came out and decided throw away their wickets. Every dismissal was off an ordinary ball. The only good bowling was the edge off Southee dropped by Taylor and Ish Sodhi just bamboozling Safraz who keeps to wrist spinners. Just bizarre.

Clearly in our conditions they aren’t any good. Although at home last week we list 7 wickets in s few overs so that doesn’t look good either

Yes we could have lost a couple without DGH at the end.

This t20 is nuts. The pitch is AWFUL. If they cant produce a world standard pitch why isnt it played down the road at the basin? Its clear people are miss timing their shots, not just pakistan.

Its a kiwi track, and as always, its tailor-made for the home team. As I said earlier we got hammered the other day, 7 buckets in no time. I have this match recorded, Im gonna watch Aus Open instead, aint worth it.

I have NO idea how NZ will go against ENG and AUS, but it wont be pretty. Playing against poor teams isnt a help, its a hindrance, we will be hammered.

I think you will even be surprised by the lack of quality of this pitch. Its a drop in, grown on the rugby ground.

It looked like somebody had moved their backyard grass and left it to dry for a few days, it was motley green and brown. Even the commentators were all over it being disgraceful.

Mind you despite our flop of a start Munro and Taylor got the runs easy enough. Poor Munro, was on the verge of joining Gayle and Mccullum for 4 T20 50s in a row, 13 runs left and hes on 49, Taylor was pretty quiet the whole game, 4, 4. 4. 1 run to win, Munro faces and the bowler bowls a over the head wide. Nice one Ross lol. Doing a Williamson.

Yes I agree it wont be pretty, but I think we will be ok with Aus, its Eng that scare me in T20s. But we are #1 for a reason, we have #1 bowler in Ish Sodhi and #1 Batsman in Colin Munro in the world and some others in the top 10s.

We wont be competitive with either. We have a nice team, its not the best team ever as many seem to think. Not even close. We have faltered more than once on this tour of woeful teams, ENG and AUS will dominate as normal

Oops. We bowled fine, they batted better.

Munro out as I started to type this, Kane then gone. Game is over, well and truly over. Not good enough, we often fold under pressure

Yeah I dont know where that has come from. We beat WI and then thrash the Champions Trophy holders who beat Eng then Ind to win it. But every team has a flat spot and they have been on the road a while now and I cant blame them for having an off tour. So we break our record with 11 wins in a row or whatever and we are the best team we have had........ I would have been reserving that statement until after the Aus/Eng home series.

Santner 15RPO last night, Eng, Finch and Stoinis going to tear him a new one. Pak finally batted with intent and showed how easy he is to smack around as he bowls 9/10 the same line and length and doesnt turn the ball.

Id like to see us stick with Ish Sodhi in tests, I know he is the #1 T20 Bowler in the world, but hes too good to leave out of tests. If Aus had his talent they would coach him and call him something like Warnie. He has that potential. Hes our first true wrist spinner who has all the balls, the wrongin, googlie, flippa, and on a turning pitch he gets as many RPMs as Ive seen from a spinner.

Although he probably feels a big middle finger to NZ Cricket, he prob also doesnt care as he gets to play cricket for fun domestically and gets paid big dollars in T20.

NZ vs SA tomorrow to get a play in the U19 World Cup quarter final.

Wow we got some talent coming through. That batsman Finn, #3, he could replace Taylor potentially.

Vaughn saying on the Eng ODI intro, you have to have a leg spinner in your team to win in ODIs now. Eng have Rashid but also the 20yo coming through in the tests. Aus have Zampa. NZ has....... Ish Sodhi, we just dont play him.

Hesson said this about Santner and Sodhi, re the IPL auctions  " I know India have got some very good spinners but those two are exceptional."

You have a real issue about Santner, where you dismiss him, yet the stats, the ratings, everyone here, the team, Hesson and management disagree.

I very much like both of them, yet you say Santner has no variation etc? He varies the speed, the flight, the angle. Castle is the one with no or little variation.

Pakistan hasn't performed well in NZ conditions, so put it down to that. Kiwis have, an tracks tailor made for us as is usual. I back that up as we have faltered, which is what Black Caps do, we can fold.

Santner 15RPO, so what? Means nothing in a T20, which is a batting game. Sodhi ent for 18 in one over, same thing, means nothing. Who was the highest scoring Back Caos batsman?

You keep comparing Sodhi to Warne, thats crazy.

We will have to agree to disagree on Santner.

Im far from alone on Santner with other friends who play totally agree as do some of NZ commentary. He doesnt have this variance with Loop or length you are suggesting, I think you are confusing him for Daniel Vettori, which he is only 50% of the bowler Vettori was. I dont hate him, Im just indifferent because hes not delivering as an all rounder. And more so when he gets selected as a specialised batsman.....

We have other talent that deserves a lengthy turn at the top level, like Philips as an opener at home instead of Latham. Sodhi who is the #1 t20 bowler in the world. A genuine wicket taker. Thats my issue. As Simon Doull keeps stating, why are we not selecting players based on their strengths for certain pitches/tours.

Re Warne, what Im saying is, Aus value Leg spin, as does Eng, Aus would play Sodhi and be giving him a lengthy go as they did Shane Warne which wasnt an overnight success (1/151 in his first innings bowling). NZ has never had a leg spinner of the quality of Sodhi. They are match winners good Leggies.

Id love it though if Santner had a spell back in Domestic and potentially County cricket focussing on his batting and improved. We really need him to get his average over 30. I think he needs a full time one on one coach, McMillan has his hands full. He has the potential to anchor the tail and be a match saver, maybe even a winner. At the moment he just ties up an end against the tail of weak opposition (hence his stats) and scores sub 10 when we need him and then 40 when we dont. Teams like Eng and Aus destroy finger spinners of his quality, and they bat deep, Eng especially all the way to #10 is a genuine batsman and #11 is a Southee type batsman. I cant wait for their tour. Santner will get destroyed so badly it may be the catalyst our selection process needs. And 15rpo in t20 is bad, he got smashed so much he couldnt Williamson had to finish his last 2 overs. That what will happen to Santner in ODIs and Tests as well against the top order of good teams. Im ok with him holding up an end against the tail, but he also then needs to deliver with the bat.

On another note. NZ are up against it in 5th position playoff today. SA are pasting us. But there is some good batting talent coming through in our team and bowlers delivering 142kph at 18yo is amazing, its just a shame he has no accuracy. We really need that Shane Bond/Starc type genuine pace in swinger bowler. When Shane Bond was our bowling coach Boult and Southee were bowling 5-10kph quicker and moving the ball in the air consistently. I dont know whats gone wrong there.

SA 250/1, 2 centurions, gorgeous cricket from SA.

You're far from alone with Santner re your friends doesnt quite compare to what Hesson said "Hesson said this about Santner and Sodhi, re the IPL auctions  " I know India have got some very good spinners but those two are exceptional."

I agree with that. Santner had potential to be better than he is delivering with the bat is my issue. He obviously is useful in tests for long bowling spells. But he had the talent to be averaging 35 with the bat. That would make him a genuine all rounder.

Surprisingly Sodhi is handy with the bat too.

So if Santner could get his batting more focussed, they would be very handy in the same team, in which case Id drop Fergusson (or Wagner) but thats unlikely.

The problem for Sodhi is Santner is doing just enough to keep being selected, where his turn he didnt deliver, but hes developed a lot in the last year.

Wow SA were 250/1 ended up 284/6

Fisher the pace man was terrible but came back and got 2 wickets in his final 2 overs. I thought they were going to get 320.

I cant see NZ chasing 285 regardless.

We had a nice clean sweep of a hapless Windies. Looked that way with Pakistan which are young, and not adapting to our tracks and conditions. I feel the last two games have allowed the cream to rise to the top. We folded again. Santa was good 2 wickets of the two highest scoring batsmen, and his batting SR was second only to Ross Taylor, and a similar score.

The bargain basement prices for the IPL now seem to be justified. I guess the Windies T20 result pushed our ranking up as well as Sodhi and Munro, rather than performances against real teams. The IPL prices support this.

ENG and AUS, it will be a long, hot, dry summer..... But it will give experience at a tier 1 level which is sorely needed, be a better team after the upcoming series
