I find the Stuff comments strange after last nights win over WI. I didn't watch it, but I see we were WELL ahead, and a WI batsman went nuts and almost pulled it off, good effort.

Stuff says

But they need to tidy up their sloppy fielding and hope their big guns keep firing

New Zealand kept giving him lives, too, in some near comical catching in the deep that will concern coach Gary Stead.

Ok, if I read this, it tells me that NZ is useless at fielding and catching. Untrue. So they had a bad night at the office? We are known as one of the nest folding sides out there, still are. That doesn't mean that we never fumble or drop a catch ever.

Moving on though. ENG had another shock loss. In ODI's anything can happen but PAK was on a 12 match losing streak, SL is just not right yet. Afghans almost rolled India, and that after getting off to a bad batting start.

WI were cruising at one point until losing 5 wickets in 4 overs. Even then I never felt comfortable, I have seen us unable to close out a game many times before.

Our fields has been way below our standards for the last year, especially the catching. We have put down way to many simple catches, even in the games so far in the World Cup, plenty of sitters put down.

Ok, so we are no good at fielding or catching at all matches now, ok.

i guess the irony of it all is that a great catch won the game.

Yep

Will be interesting as while NZ is a distant 4th to the big three, the big three have shown clear vulnerability.  We have been solid and steady, reliant on our bowling. Maybe one day we have a great bowl, another day we get a couple of big knocks. I dont think our game style and mindset allows for a big score, but if Munners and CdeG have a big day, Kane and Taylor have  solid day, two bowlers have a big day, we can win. But we dont do all at once. If we do make the final, I hope its not like last time, that was embarrassing. We went out and played like we had already made a place for the Silver trophy in the cabinet

Another failed top order. Taylor has a night off. Oops Latham gone. Thebrest just have to get what they can and see how the score is later. With only 3 batmen ket, if they each got 60 from here that's still just 230. Not any scope for a few big overs late. Our bowlers might handle 250 here

Oh well. Given that we lost the openers as usual, Taylor which is fine, for it to go to the 50th over was a sound effort

Munro needs to go down the order to where CdeG and Neesham are. less pressure, older ball. Latham can open. Guppy needs to bed himself in. Unlike pre CWC commentary, every game is not a 350+ game

I havent watched much due to the timing, but the commentators say that we have had issues every match. Still getting wins though, so we need some change

Put it this way - if our openers fire in the semi, we shouldn't have too much of an issue. Otherwise we're quite probably in the poop.

For sure. Henry open, Munro later.  Munro would be ideal later on when ball older, when star bowlers are having a break

I see coach admitted to mis reading the pitch would have had Sodhi on

Not just the coach, captain, leadership group, etc. They surely cannot all have just agreed and made the same mistake?

They got guidance from ground staff and Jeetan Patel. It seems to be the coachs end responsibility. Did not account for it being covered, then getting sticky

Given all that, and Taylor missed out, no Sodhi, we did ok to take it to the last over. Been the story of the series, issues, but Kane etc rescuing it. We are clearly the 4th best team, but cant keep doing that every game.

Sometimes I wonder if we've really moved on from "Macca will smash a quick fire 70 and we'll just go from there" of 2015.

Yea. So this isn't a WC winning performance. Can't live up to the hype against tier 1 opposition.

I doubt that many saw us as a winning chance. Thats rare. If we get in the top 4, and if Munro fires, we can win. Otherwise we cant as we are not good enough. Admittedly it did look as though our bowling quality was enough to offset poor batting, given that with poor batting we have snuck wins away, and Guppy etc can get into form. But we do choke. Last final was a classic example.

Macca gave us a chance if he performed. I was against Munro going, but if he performed that can take matches away, but too late now. With no openers every match, we are already well behind and playing catchup. We are top 4 and in a gap. But its been fun

Put Munro back at 4 or 5, so he can avoid a new ball and top line bowlers, he's a pinch hitter and not any more than that. he's not an opener as he has no technique.

Ouch. I didnt watch any of it. But to see that we were conservative in bowling, is poor. We held them to 240 odd so that's good, clearly the track is a lot of that. Then we bat so slow, with a huge number of dot balls? Ok, that means we see we dont need a huge run rate, so slow and steady and stable is ok. But with no huge RR pressure we still fall apart.
