Yes the IPL was a lottery, poor Boult being after a $2m bidding war, while the dust settled he went cheap. Lots of leg spin being bought, particularly Afghanistan producing amazing spin bowlers including the u19 guy who decimated us in this world cup, going for near $2m and another 16yo went for id $600k. Very tough group. Good for them. Didnt leave any room for Ish Sodhi and Santners group he went for rock bottom price of $100k, they had more room but shows how tight it is. You can be the best team and even the best bowler in the world but with IPL there is no Rhyme or Reason. Dale Steyne didnt get sold.

Brendon McCullum 3.6 crore ($770,000) to Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Kane Williamson 3 crore ($641,000) to Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Trent Boult 2.2 crore ($470,000) to Delhi Daredevils.

Colin de Grandhomme 2.2 crore ($470,000) to Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Colin Munro 1.9 crore ($406,000) to Delhi Daredevils.

Tim Southee 1 crore ($214,000) to Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Mitchell Santner 50 lakh ($107,000) to Chennai Super Kings.

UNSOLD:

Martin Guptill, Mitchell McClenaghan, Ish Sodhi, Corey Anderson, Glenn Phillips, Anton Devcich, Tom Latham, Luke Ronchi, Lockie Ferguson, Adam Milne, Ross Taylor, Matt Henry, Scott Kuggeleijn, Neil Wagner, Seth Rance, Ben Wheeler, Anurag Verma.

Had we creamed Pakis the other day, 2nd T20, that may well have been well timed, that loss may now have gone against us.

Most definitely.

But also a theme of them buying a lot of the U19 WC players for big bucks. I dont know if Im for or against that. As long as they have managers (not Don King) looking after them.

I expected Boult to go for more and like stuff said, him and Munro can feel unlucky. I always expect Guptil to get snatched up but hasnt been his year. Ish Sodhi you do have to feel sorry for, best in the world but not good enough to get a spot? haha. oops, no laughs. His reserve might have been too high, I dont know if he got bids. But its by far the toughest group in the world as leggies are so valued and so many in the sun continent.

Santner will feel ok I guess getting picked, but for your reserve which was VERY low, well I guess thats what hes happy to play for and I think thats not bad considering who has missed out around the world.

Some of the Aussies and Eng to miss out just do my head in.

Players like Mccullum and Gayle get picked on their legacy/name soley.

Don elike a dinner, as expected. Apparently ENG and OZ arent playing that great, but winning against WI and Pakis was never a reflection on our real rankings

So they changed the Blackcaps a little. Kane needs to go, he isn't a bowler, and his SR is too low for T20.

I 100% agree with that. I think Taylor can change his pace. Perhaps even Nicholls.

I think T20 squads in theory should look nothing like our test squad. Just play our best Big Bash players :-).

That was embarrassing the loss to Aus, we didnt even get 6rpo lol. Who are our best bowler all rounders who can vary it up like Tye does for Aus. I watched him all summer, hes a freak at getting people out caught due to his variations in slower balls, hes got like 10 different types.

Yeah Im sure I read Gayle got $450k, Ill try to find the report.

I now recall Gayle got snapped up in the leftover round. BBL must help this game, T20 is not really a shorter form of cricket its a bash. Test match has on average 135 overs per 10 wickets, ODI has 50 overs for 10 wickets, T20 has 20 overs for 10 wickets. Make the whole team batsmen almost. If you have a great bowler have him. There are batters that can bowl  A 6 to Boult is still a 6. I dont even think we bowl for T20, but the commentary for the Oz fielding was great, you cant stop them hitting so force them to hit leg or off side, then load that.

This actually looks pretty good now. Not in order.

Kane Williamson (captain), Martin Guptill, Colin Munro, Ross Taylor, Mark Chapman, Tim Seifert, Colin de Grandhomme, Mitchell Santner, Ben Wheeler, Tim Southee, Ish Sodhi, Trent Boult, Anaru Kitchen.

Sodhi or Santner Twelfth man and Williamson on the Bench ROFL

Well Phillips had a go but didnt deliver, although I think we just dont give some players long enough and other ones too long, so Seifert was the other glove man who can hit it.

The new guys recent t20 form

Seifert 323 from 10 innings at a strike rate of 147

Chapman 307 at an average of 34 and strike rate of 172

So 32.3vg at 9RPO and 34avg at 10.3 runs an over.

This line up is batting reasonably well to 9 but if I swapped Sodhi for Wheeler Id put him in behind Southee. If your top 8 cant score the runs the true tail shoulnt be expected too, so i might even just leave wheeler out and keep Sodhi depending on the pitch as a strike bowler. Most wickets coming from catches and he has so much variance in Spin. Hes dropped to #3 in the world eeeek lol. But williamson better do more than just block 1, take 1, block 1, take 1. He needs to take a single every ball, so these big hitters can get to the boundary. I can see 3 chances of resurection with this line up with Williamsn, Taylor and Santner anchoring the big hitters, but all 3 need to immediately be getting off the mark, otherwise Id have DGH ahead of Santner.

Guptil
Munro
Williamson
Chapman
Taylor
Siefert
Santner
DGH
Wheeler/Sodhi
Southee
Boult

Precisely. Luckily for Southee and Boult they actually have a pretty good eye and with some training could easily do a lot better, I think Southee could get up to DGH standard.

Id have DeG at 3. We need a start. Kane if he cant play T20 must rotate every ball or aim for 4. he is a waste. If DeG bats GREAT, its likely he wasnt a match winner, he just made up for the slackers, so we didnt really gain a match winning potential. Kane could even bat way down so he can have a better chance of 4's and rotating when the ball is older. My opinion is that he gives himself too much responsibility so he plays safe. T20 is about a 9RR and that its expected to lose a wicket every 2 overs, but he bogs us down so too many risks are taken.

BmC showed no respect for the game, thats what we need. Its over before you blink, and a poor 5 overs is doom, no time to catch it up

Yep I agree.

Will be interesting to see if the team I suggested is what they pick from the 13.

Because you could in theory drop Williamson and have both Wheeler and Sodhi. Although Id be tempted to drop either Boult or Southee and give Kane a rev up. Only reason id consider keeping SOuthee is he is a handy batsman. Boult is still in the top 20 bowlers, but that doesnt say much at 17 and 120 points behind Santner and Sodhi.

That way you have Santner who some how jumped from 10th to 1st in the world and Sodhi who dropped from 1 to 3 (there is a few points in the top 5) both bowling, and for some reason Santner can bat at t20 with about SR120, not a DGH or Munro but he can feed the strike at more than a run a ball and Sodhi is the #1 wicket taker. Basically replacing Williamson doddling around for Sodhi taking wickets, tough one, but I really dont think Williamson gets the concept of t20. Its a shame he wasnt born in Eng or Aus as they play SOOO many more Tests, he would likely have made it to the #1 modern day test player by end of career if you take his runs scored per match so far. If he does an Alaistair Cook and plays until he is 40 (34), he still might lol

Oh boy if that worked out too good imagine if Williamson got dropped from the ODIs lol.

I feel like there has been no cricket this season, it almost feels like the last 3-4 weeks we havnt played anything. T20s are a pain when they take over as you get 3 hour of cricket a week not 32.5. Mix an ODI series followed by a tri series half played in Aus and BLAH !

I just hope it doesnt run in the ENg test series, although I can see tomorrow and Friday being called off for rain.

Well looks like they have gone with what I thought, not playing wheeler and keeping williamson and having Sodhi

NZ has top 1 and 3 bowlers.

Guptil is godly. I love his batting when on form, he has a better class than munro because he can hit it anywhere and his straight lofted drives are the best shot in the game.

Williamson finely hitting it from the start.

Oh man Chapman next, Id put DGH in next, then Siefert, make hay while he sun shines.

Thank you selectors finally listening to the fans about the middle order and giving Williamson a kick up the ....

Chapman and Seifert are amazing and hit around the men in form

Guptil one innings too late for the IPL, really deserves to be there, class act.

I feel this could be the perfect ODI team but maybe drop chapman for Nichols. And then you still have Phillips to replace Seifert if needed, both are awesome. These young guys are our future.

Id be really happy to see leg spin permanently in our ODI team, especially the only good one we have ever had.

Santner can do his 80% Vettori like Ewen Chapfield on the spot no runs bowling and that creates pressure, and have the 2 Swing bowlers and our other all rounder DGH to share with whoever is not going so well.

But yeah, we finally have a middle order that arent all test players. Hopefully Santner got the same stick Williamson got. But if we keep playing like this we wont need to get that far down the order :-)

Sodhi GETS IT ! OH MAN, Hales was 46/20. I think that wicket might sink Engs chances.
