Could Glenn Phillips have worse luck with a knee cap dislocating twice in a row. Very freaky dislocation, but to have it happen 2 games in a row. Hopefully not again this summer or he will need some kind of surgery.

What an amazing innings, one of the best T20 centuries.

Geeze add Kane Williamson to this team, you have a mean as ODI team. Phillips should have been given a chance a long time ago.

Fantastic again from Conway, I think both will make it to Tests. Phillips is a secondary keeper option so we dont need a keeper all rounder in ODIs, but will wait to see if Seifert can convert his talent levels as if he can also start producing, that is a heck of a lot of talent to replace the aging guys, T20s is a bit hard to judge much from.

What a throw Glenn Phillips 1.25 stumps to aim at and hits the base running WI player out by a metre. He has to be chances on to win lotto Wed given the game hes having today. MotM no matter what happens now, if not before we started bowling. Sensational.

OMG one of the best boundary rider catches ever from Glenn Phillips. Somebody take him off, hes too much. When the ball is moving away from you in the air at speed and you leave the ground to stop it, it takes some special hands for that to stick. Being a keeper helps I guess. Best batsman, best fielder.

Pretty hard for Conway to play the tests when he's not in the squad

Conway deserves to be in the test side as well. It’s a shame that he wasn’t selected for tests. He should be replacing Nicholls in the test squad.

Best Test Squad:
1. Latham
2. Blundell
3. Williamson
4. Conway
5. Taylor
6. Watling (w)
7. De Grandhomme
8. Santner
9. Southee / Ferguson
10. Wagner
11. Boult

Best ODI Squad:
1. Guptill/Conway
2. Nicholls/Conway
3. Williamson
4. Taylor
5. Latham (w)
6. Neesham
7. De Grandhomme
8. Santner
9. Henry / Jamieson
10. Ferguson
11. Boult

That catch was stunning, to be fair our work in the Feild was outstanding today! Let see what Santi can produce from them tomorrow, it going to be a cracker either way :)

I agree and was my point. Not that hes in the team, but he deserves to be, him and Glenn Phillips have been tearing it up in first class.

As usual NZ pick their squads too early imo, we had the same issue last year but from memory it was worse.

Glenn Philips has a better T20 batting average than Siefert.

Best T20 Squad
1. Guptill
2. Philips (w)
3. Williamson
4. Conway
5. Taylor
6. Nessham
7. De Grandhomme
8. Santner
9. Ferguson
10. Jamieson / Southee
11.Boult

Since next T20 World Cup in India they will most likely be playing 2 spinners so replace Jamieson/Southee with Sodhi. The reason why I did Jamieson over Southee is that he offers height so should be able to make good use of the pitch.

I see the squad that I mentioned above would have a good chance at winning the T20 World Cup in India. Only problem is that Guptill isn’t good at spin so not sure whether he should be replaced or not.

Like I said before start of last match, been looking forward to Glenn Phillips matching his ability at international level. Him and Conway are great stocks coming through.

The great thing about Phillips and Conway, they can bat in all 3 forms of the game. Is it possible for the next gen black caps to even surpass the last 10 years with us getting to #1 in ODI and T20 and 2nd in Tests at one point and 2 back to back WC Finals. Dear to dream....

I agree but are they coming through?? If it wasn't for CdeG being injured and Munro playing in Perth they get no opportunity. Because we rely on ageing and experienced players who play till their pension is due. Guppy out quick, again, Munro is he same, Kane is too slow, Ross is steady and slow, the same old thing. Will Conway and Philips get 50+ every game and quick? No, but Id wager you will get far more value from them, who got into this T20 team by luck, not skill, as we favour older and steady instead. Older and steady will get the odd win, and often a creditable 2nd..... We need to "give" opportunities to see how the next gen stocks are, not wait till they have to be fill ins.

Williamson should be dropped from the T20 squad? Let's drop the best batman that NZ has had in 50 years who was the top run scorer in IPL 2018 and gets picked for every T20 comp around the world.

Daft.

Typical negative BS response. I said he was slow, I said other older and experienced players are in and out. I said give opportunities to new stocks which we never do and we haven't done here.

Look on the bright side for once, and accept that we never give opportunities to players. Thenwe allow Munro to fail and fail and fail. If you built up stocks of new players, it might well be the Kane isnt the first pick every game. But he would get in well ahead of Guppy and Ross and others. But we have seen we have players in th wings that should get in ahead of Kane.

I agree re Williamson shouldnt be in the T20 squad. I can see the argument for, but I think we have better fast scoring options. Either way our chances for the WC look better.

As for the Tests, I dont understand Jamieson or Patel being included in the squad ahead of Ferguson and Sodhi.

Like one of the greats said the other day when watching Ferguson, something like if you have 2 quality fast fast bowlers and a Leg spinner you are set.

Everyone talking about Ferguson being the only player putting in the extra fitness work on his own accord, yet we still dont pick him for a test squad. Aussies would have had him in the squad 2 seasons ago. He has the legs to do lots of overs, he can easily drop his pace to put in 20 overs a day and then bowl the 155kph ball out of the blue every over, which from 140kph will be very hard to deal with.

Fair enough play southee and boult, but at least include Ferguson in the squad for the right pitch and or one of these 2 aging bowlers get injured.

Cant wait to see Will Young, much like Glenn Phillips in the shorter form he has the skills as does Conway. I'd take either over Nicholls imo.

Darn losing the toss, this is one very Green pitch. This could be a very difficult 1st day for NZ. Was an auto field first from either captain on that toss haha.

I agree. Simplistically, your 11 best players are your 11 best players, T20, ODI or Tests. Sure, some players who can score well are a wicket risk in tests, or score slow so are unsuitable for T20, etc. Is Boult no good at bowling? No T20. Same for Wagner? No T20 or ODI.

Ferguson, may well be our Brett Lee, but not in Tests. Did Brett Lee never play tests?
