What a mess of a race.

Have to wonder what Hamilton has to do to get a penalty. Even the running Verstappen off the road was a warning about a warning.

Waiting on the Telemetry and what the Stewarts say - but it will blow up on Social Media because of the Max fans but Max could get DSQ.

You don't what he did in the middle of track 100m from your normal marker and not even make an attempt to move over.

This was pure dangerous driving and even Max's engineer couldn't understand what he did.

The race was crazy, i got excited for a few laps when max was in front and could win the race, but then he blew the start. Then Lewis was winning and it became a boring race. As predicted I know who's going to be champion next week. My congratulations in advance. I hope he retires after that. I cannot face another year of him winning again and again, though it is his choice if he wants to go for 9 and 10.

Didn't realise Max brake checked Lewis ....

I think there is some element of immaturity, if Max has kept his head a few times this season he'd be ahead by more than 7 points instead of giving away points.

Example was yesterday, he understeered the penultimate corner in qualifying, instead of waiting for the car to turn he applied full throttle and oversteered into the wall. I don't think that incident directly changed the result today however, seeing there were so many twists and turns that took place today.

Would you be saying it if it was Vettel or even Alonso? Take Indy Car what about our own Scott Dixon who is still at the top of his game after 19 Years and won the championship 6 times.

I don't get all the dislike of Hamilton these guys are at the top of the game in Motorsport, you cannot just get in an F1 car and race like Hamilton does. look at our own Hartley and how a successful Tin Top racer came to F1 and bombed out.

Hamilton deserves every thing he has achieved. I know he will definitely get 8 titles. I predicted that with 3 races to go. I just thought sometimes the race weekend was boring because they were always foregone conclusion with little action.

I am not sure Max should win anything this year after this morning. As I said he's just too immature.

Also if Hamilton wants to win 10 championships I believe he can. The only thing stopping him is him, and maybe his car, but that's only a maybe.

When I typed the original post I actually didn't realise Max brake checked Hamilton! I had to see the replay of the incident and it was definitely a brake check. Not an attempt to give back the position. I have striked out the post now.

Good question.

I am actually happy whoever wins, as long as they do it on merit. And I think I was a bit upset at Hamilton's history of destroying Alonso at MacLaren, but hey which champion does not become champion by destroying their team mate. Vettel. Schumacher spring to mind.

But after this morning, and after seeing the replay, all is forgotten. Fully support Hamilton this year and all history will be erased in my mind when he gets his 8th trophy. Though I probably won't watch the race if it's a Merc front row lock out because there won't be much action. Let's see ... how old is Bottas and Hamilton's engine? I think I read somewhere Merc engine are really good only for one race. Then they drop off. Was thinking if they will crank up their engines since it's the last race. Need FIA approval on engine maps - was wondering if the maps on the engines can be changed between races lol. RB on umpteenth race, while Lewis' engine will be his third race.

Also when will the jury decision be out on Max?

That is sadly the arrogance of his father coming out in him, between Hamlet, Horner and his father putting him on such a pedestal it's created someone who cannot race clean.

Don't get me wrong Max has the ability to be amazing but he will never win championships like he's acting now.

Handed another 10-second Penalty

The stewards saw fit to hand Verstappen a further 10-second penalty and two penalty points (taking him to a total of seven over the 12-month period) with their report reading: "At Turn 21 the driver of car 33 [Verstappen] was given the instruction to give back a position to car 44 [Hamilton] and was told by the team to do so 'strategically'. Car 33 slowed significantly at Turn 26.

"However, it was obvious that neither driver wanted to take the lead prior to DRS detection line 3. The driver of Car 33 stated that he was wondering why Car 44 had not overtaken and the driver of Car 44 stated that, not having been aware at that stage that Car 33 was giving the position back, was unaware of the reason Car 33 was slowing.

"In deciding to penalise the driver of Car 33, the key point for the Stewards was that the driver of car 33 then braked suddenly (69 bar) and significantly, resulting in 2.4g deceleration.

"Whilst accepting that the driver of Car 44 could have overtaken Car 33 when that car first slowed, we understand why he (and the driver of Car 33) did not wish to be the first to cross the DRS [line]. However, the sudden braking by the driver of Car 33 was determined by the Stewards to be erratic and hence the predominant cause of the collision and hence the standard penalty of 10 seconds for this type of incident, is imposed."

Verstappen was therefore found to have breached Article 2, Chapter IV Appendix L of the FIA International Sporting Code, but keeps his second-place finish and enters the season finale level on points with Hamilton.

That feels like a fair decision. I've watched the replays and think both drivers were being stupid the whole race. Having said that it is racing and they are both trying and should be trying to win!

Hamilton:

- Could so easily have blown past on the left, but probably thought there was a crash, safety card or yellow flags ahead that he couldn't see as Max would never give up a place so easily.
- Got distracted / zoned out and wasn't paying attention
- Happy to gamble on max coming off worse
- Lewis/Merc was bending the rules around the 10 car length gap, Bottas backing Max up etc trying to get into Max's head through silly media speeches and on track antics.

Max:

- Didn't feel he needed to give the position back and wanted to minimise the impact of trading places with the track not being conducive to close following or overtaking.
- Wasn't going to hand Lewis a place on a silver platter
- Happy to gamble on Lewis coming off worse

I feel the FIA have created the environment for the bad behavior based on their inconsistent penalties dished out throughout the year in a super tight race.

Also Paul di Resta will probably get a reprimand, but was so in point when he said the track designers had a blank canvas to create a track that's exciting to drive and allow overtaking but failed on the latter. Imagine only having perhaps Silverstone, Baku, Zandvoort, Spa, Sakhir, Brazil and Portugal three times each :)

I get Max being pinged for the braking bit, but if someone refuses a redress, I'm not sure what else he's meant to do. At that point it kind of seemed like a situation they'd both contributed to tbh.

Frankly I'm over Lewis. Today there was an instance where Masi lost his shit at AMG sooking on the radio, and pointed out that Lewis' overtake on Max was on the edge of what was acceptable.

Given Lewis clearly ran Max off the track, I want to know what would have happened for something to actually happen with that incident. Why didn't he do something about it or note it or investigate it, rather than only mention it when they were going off?

Meanwhile Max must be one of the most scrutinized drivers in the last thirty years, and the officials seem much happier to ping him than Lewis.

We now have a situation where Max gets penalised for being rear-ended because Lewis refuses a redress, but Lewis can run people wide and off the track with impunity. At this point, and after the Silverstone and Hungary debacles, I'm not 100% sure Max is going to get the rub of the green when it comes to something if Lewis manages to wipe him out at the final race. Not to mention the stunts AMG pulled under the safety cars or lining up on the grid which just went unnoticed.

The tedious British nationalism in the sport doesn't help either.

Based on this year, it is far more likely that one of the Mercs will wipe out Max.

Hell, Bottas almost got it done at the first restart today. That would have been the scandal of the century.

Max was let off the hook in Brazil for running Lewis wide?

I think FIA is in a difficult position.

This is not a 100m sprint, it's more like rugby union.

Who ever has the upper hand risk being wiped not the other way round, so yes in theory it could be the other way round, but I expect Merc to be leading next race.

Time will tell

PS I'm not sure Bottas wants to risk his career on wiping out Max (backing him up in normal, two cars vs one). coming to think about it ... Tsunoda on the other hand, won't be risking anything, he's a natural!

He got away with it there but not here. So I feel like they finally decided that isn't acceptable.

Lewis got a warning about a warning today, I'd hate to see what it would take for him to actually get penalised for something.
