The Ten Most Strange Sports of the Olympics

the list includes:

  • Horse Long Jump
  • Horse High Jump
  • Plunge for distance
  • Pistol Duelling
  • Poodle Clipping

I have also seen other weird ones like Roquet (similar to croquet), Running deer shooting, live pigeon shooting and the Obstacle Swim.

No money in it and requires specialist facilities.

Last time I checked, so did swimming :)

How much money is in rock climbing, or break dancing?

Swimming and track and field are some of the original Olympic sports.

If your favourite sport can't get there it's either sbout money or incompetently run.

I am not questioning the validity of those sports being there, I was pointing out it was pretty unlikely to be about facilities as a fair number of sports have pretty specific environments required including swimming.

I can understand it's about money probably. There was an argument that you can't have a large crowd in person watching it, but I'd say that was true of many other sports that are included. Screens and technology cater well for it now.

If you hold an Olympics you have to have swimming or track and field, that is a given. It's not an Olympics without those facilities. Some sports like surfing or beach volley ball don't need particularly specific facilities.

If you want to add events then it comes down to a cost benefit analysis or the host really wants it.

I don't follow Gold, but is the current situation that Ko is Third Equal and play has ended and they are waiting to see if they can continue play ? If they decide no, she gets Bronze, and if not, then she has a chance for Gold? Is she within possibility of Gold or Silver realistically?

Not so easy. If tie most likely playoffs. It's not high jump.

Nope just the 3. (Just completed).

Congratulations Lydia Ko on a bronze medal. And what a fantastic sport she is, all smiles and applauding fellow competitors.
