That's true. I also drive a Corolla but would like an Audi RS6 which is roughly seven times the price of the Corolla. Same with motorbikes, watches, anything you can think of. E-Bikes have certainly added $$$ but I'd argue a fairer comparison would be a motorbike but that doesn't go down well in mountain bike forums!

As MTBs get more and more techy (and spendy) with the features previously only available on motorbikes the lines will become blurred. Where does e-bike end and e-motorbike begin?

Just don't like the idea of the wireless ones, as they are just another thing to charge and reduce the amount of time you can be out on the go, so to speak.

Cables may stretch and occasionally break, but they don't have a short-term life issue

That what I keep teeling myself, given my riding, an electronic set really doesn't make sense.. but I still want it. Might talk to some bike shops & see if they have any I can test ride🤔

What groupsets are we all running running? I have sram rival on my road bike, but am trying to convice myself that one of the electronic sets is a reasonable upgrade

I've been running Shimano Ultegra Di2 for a couple of years or so on my road/CX bike. I've been very happy with it, no issues with charging - it lasts a long time (am running 1x), you can monitor the charge level, and the gear changing is very quick and accurate.

Not sure I would spring to buy a whole groupset given the price (unless it was with a decent sale), as I think it would be hard to justify. I got mine with the bike already, but have been very happy with it during my usage.

I've been too busy with DIY to go out for a couple of weeks but I did stumble on this video

Just got out new Thule Velo Compact bike rack.

I'm a bit perplexed as to how the round nuts with the allen key slot in one end are supposed to actually work.

It looks as if they're supposed to be locking nuts but when threaded onto the spindle inside the plastic knob there's not enough depth for the allen key to be inserted to be able to tighten them properly.

This is for the knobs you loosen to fold down the frame that the ancjor arms fit onto.

Any ideas?

Picture? On my Thule rack I don't remember doing anything with an allen key. I have an A frame at the back that the clamps attach to, and they have large knobs that unscrew ( so it can fold flat for storage) against possibly an allen key. However part of the bolt must be flat as I don't need an allen key to loosen or tighten them.

Yep, them's the knobs.

Our one came in a box and needed the A frame to be fitted.

Got it sorted in the end. I was looking at it in the half light yesterday evening. In the better light today I was able get a proper look. Those round nuts are just there as end stops on the spindles to stop the knobs coming completely undone. They just nip up onto the end of the spindle so don't need much torque to lock them in place.

It's been a bit quiet in here of late.

I have to say - there hasn't been a whole lot of riding done by us lot lately, but we have had a couple of bike changes - youngest son got a newer 27.5 Giant Trance 140/150 as he'd outgrown his old bike and now the oldest is having to follow suit with his enduro bike (sold his trail bike a while back as it wasn't getting used), so we're on the hunt (once again) for a moderately priced 27.5 160/160 or longer travel enduro bike.

He's seen a couple of 2015+ bikes on Trademe and Facebook but trying to get people to communicate with you is just nightmarish...nobody answers questions. It's like they don't want to sell their bikes!

Facebook is the real wild west when it comes to marketplace. I saw a mountainbike frame that wasn't in great nick, another project for me. Never heard from the seller. I do know that messages sometimes disappear into the black hole if they aren't a "friend" at least they used to when I was using it.

I honestly hate scrolling through stuff. And the search function being limited to 500km drives me nuts, if someone is selling something I really want and their in the US or the Europe I don't care if I want it badly enough.

That said, we've barely ridden either, Sunday's in Auckland have been miserable and I got a new hip end of March so had been taking it easy. Now getting heavier and unfit.

We got out and about over the weekend after coming out of isolation.
The two of us that weren’t affected by Covid headed up to Woodhill Forest Bike Park to check out the new jump trails.
We were not disappointed.

Thats a lot of air. I wish I could do that !

I was out a lot in May but some DIY got in the way since then and it's not very enticing in some of the recent weather. I have been out in my local track a few times tho, one of the recent times was just after this massive leaf drop which carpeted the whole bush in this large type of leaf. The angle doesn't really show how it was everywhere.

I really want to go for a night ride. I've bought a couple of brightish lights but I can't seem to get out the door after tea on these cold nights. Anyone into night riding? I'm sure even a track you know well would be a challenge in the dark.

I don't really understand what the problem is? Other that issues at the start of the section.

If drivers hit the protectors, then aren't they encroaching on the cycleway? I wonder if they also run into curbs. I'm not sure if they are an issue for cyclists, I probably don't ride enough to comment but they seem ok to me.
