Batman:

don't forget that apparently one other tennis player and one other tennis official have supposedly entered the country as free persons despite being in the exact circumstance of Novak Djokovic.

the two are apparently being investigated

Its all speculation until the facts are known. Ive read stuff that seems contradictory, so facts are not that clear. If those other two were falsely let in they can be deported or whatever Novak gets, that's a bit of a red herring. A concern but unrelated to Djokovic's issue

1 has left Australia and 1 is leaving Australia after being detained for entering Australia with an exemption because of recent covid infection. How did they get in on the first place lol

https://edition.cnn.com/2022/01/07/tennis/australian-open-renata-voracova-visa-spt-intl/index.html

Again don't blame them. The blame seems to lie with Tennis Australia who make up their own rules

The whole premise of the 6 month exemption from vaccination is bogus as well.
How any Tennis 'Medical board' they set up internally not question this ?
If they had any medical expertise.

You don't have to wait 6 months to vaccinate after infection.
Our Medical recommendation is its fine after 4 weeks.
USA the guidance is anytime after 10 days from infection when your infection has resolved.

Seem to be benefits doing this quickly in reducing long covid in some.
Then there is the very broad immunity from vaccination after infection.

Never mind why they were not already vaccinated, or always seem to have had an infection within 6 months of any tournament.

It was a BS exemption created for BS reasons, and no doubt coupled with only needing BS evidence.

Its also not fair to all the other competitors who did vaccinate, and according to unvaccinated harmed their performance.

Never mind the whole public service thing, and why should they care, where does the prize money and all come from , the public.
You may not want to be part of a society , then why involve yourself in a career that requires societies support.

You could just sit the whole thing out on your moral high ground after all.

True the players were lead on.

Yeh I understand that Tennis Australia followed the script of international Grand Slam series org.

The shemozzle of the Australian GP was forgotten, its not Europe.
What are Australian rules and regulations, State and National ? Nah does not matter.

So I agree there will probably be huge lawsuit, quite winnable over this.
Plus extra for the humiliation.
'Tennis Australia', possibly others are very vulnerable, this will echo on for a while.
They better have deep pockets.

Good thing is it does highlight the plight of refugees.
Not as much as if he had been sent to Christmas island.

One question, If his visa is refused and he has to leave does that mean he is barred from entering Aussie again for x years ??

Personally I think the guy is a muppet and he thinks he is a better human than anybody else and has a right to do x

Either way I find the whole fiasco more entertaining than watching the tennis anyway.

Media says 3 years normally

But he was just following TA's instructions it's not his fault. TA have him their own exemption despite the federal govt saying otherwise

No Vac Djokovic did nothing wrong

This is an entirely political mess. The federal government was totally happy with Victorian issued medical exemptions until it became clear that they were incredibly unpopular.

It’s pretty much a classic Lynton Crosby dead cat strategy to show how tough they are at the border while Covid cases are going nuts.

He did do wrong though. The government has stated that they told TA in November these are the exemption rules. TA assumed that the law is in grey area and gave an exemption to Djokovic.

Thing is. TA is not the government nor border control agency. Just because my relative in Australia tells me its ok to bring drugs into Australia and here is your special excuse note and I get caught at the border, does not makes it not my fault does it?

If he had just vaccinated like everyone else, he would be relaxing in his 5 star hotel by now. He made it difficult for.himself and I am sure moving forward, he will find not being able to play tennis in a lot of countries either.

Do whatever you want to do man.

Most countries accept a Covid infection by within 6 months in lieu vaccination. It’s generally not advised to be vaccinated within 6 months of a Covid infection.

Sorry @Batman, your claim Novak did nothing wrong is totally incorrect.

It is really incumbent on any person travelling to another country to know what the entrance requirements to that country are. A world tennis star who travels regularly to other countries knows this better than most. Sure he should (does) have a team who can assist with crossing the Ts and dotting the Is, but ultimately you as an individual are required to have the correct visa and documentation and Novak simply does not.

Also I realise this is a matter of opinion, but I personally feel his choice to not be vaccinated is also wrong - and that's really the genesis of this whole situation he's got himself into.

i haven't travelled in a while but I **accept all your arguments.

really feels like it was a lifetime ago that i travelled

**disclaimer - only if and only if the federal govt did not initially approve TA and VIC exemption, which they say they didn't

Looks like Novak's positive covid result on Dec 16 is under the microscope. Reportedly his social media shows him out and about unmasked and around children around the date of of that positive test result.

https://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/novak-djokovics-unbelievably-irresponsible-behaviour-while-covid-positive-exposed/A4PZO7YSYYULP5WLN53EGPBG3I/

"The Exemption Certificate also recorded that … the date of the first positive COVID PCR test was recorded on 16 December 2021"

"Photos have resurfaced on social media of the Serbian attending several public events around the time of his positive test."

"Djokovic attended a Euroleague basketball game on 14 December, two days before the positive PCR test. He sat courtside and wasn't wearing a mask. On the same day he purportedly tested positive, he received a commemorative stamp in his honour at an event hosted by the Serbian National Postal Service on December 16. He shared photos of the event to social media the next day."

"Djokovic also attended an award ceremony at the Novak Tennis Centre in Belgrade on December 17."

"Multiple photos on social media show the 20-time grand slam champion posing for photos with children without wearing a mask."

If you can't laugh at yourself then you probably shouldn't laugh at others.

Oh no I hope he didn't lick all those stamps before they were sent out.
