Canterbury challenged by a desperate Otago side, but Canterbury whilst trying their hardest to lose, managed to win.

Ennor is showing some signs of his prior form with some nice speed, steps and defence.

Romano is seriously a monster. They don't make them like him any more. He was one of the Blues best this season, and awesome for Canterbury the last two seasons.

Northland have played plenty of good rugby this year - reckon they'll give Cant. a good crack.

Auck were too strong in the scrums & rolling mauls - but Harbour still had a good chance to win the match, too many turnovers at the breakdown & poor lineout throwing really cost them though.

Wgtn almost butchered a very good lead against Hawkes Bay in the quarter-finals... need to play far better than that in the semi against the Jafa's.

FRI 14th OCT :

Wgtn v Auck - 7.05pm

SAT 15th OCT :

I didn't expect Auckland or Canterbury to struggle the way they did. I think it's a lot to ask of BOP to beat what has been a generally strong Canterbury side at home.

Yeah, would be a massive upset for BOP to get the win over Cant... be great if it happened though 😀

IMO Canterbury looked very average when using their backline. For a team that has looked so good and scored plenty of tries it was strange to me they looked so disjointed.

What I want to know is, with Auckland able to call on quite a few AB's will any of the 3 other teams left be able to call on the same in the semis?

...Laumape.... well weighted short kicking game & distribution skills.

You sure we were watching the same player? I would say his play was very one dimensional & could be questionable on defense, which I suspect is why he wasn't picked more. Sure, we do lack a bit of punch in the midfield currently, but it's not looking too bad at all IMO.

SBW's was an one-dimensional player on attack, he just basically had an offloading game - whereas Laumape had plenty of pace, power & short kicking game, so the opposition were not sure whether he was going to pass, step & run round them, power through a player or execute a short kick in behind... with J.Barrett at 2nd-five we now have a 2nd-five that can consistently get past the advantage line & also has a kicking game, which gives our midfield more balance.

Wgtn v Auck - semi-final highlights

Wgtn started poorly in the comp, lost our first two matches, from there won 9 in a row, that semi-final win our best performance of the season so far... Paul Tito a former Naki & Canes player is on the coaching staff, looks like he's made a big difference in drilling our forwards really well.

Looking forward to tonight's game. BOP and finals are two words you don't hear together often, so I'm going to enjoy it while I can.
