The offside law doesn't care about height, weight, how much you lean, what you ate for breakfast.

She had part of her body over the line, end of story. Moving the line to the footbwont stop the arguements when a toe is over the line.

I'm out.

I see a couple of leagues are trying out a new variant of the offside law as suggested by Arsene Wenger.

Will be interesting to see how that works out.

Weird - it wasn't when I first found it, but it is now.

From my perspective, law 11 is quite complex, but the way I see it, the players arms are not used in football and so are excluded from the offside rule, with any part of the rest of the body being included.

The idea is to facilitate the use of the offside trap as a strategy in the game.  I would think a player would understand when this strategy is being played and use appropriate tactics  such as momentum, timing and positional/area play to work around it.

My kids and I really enjoyed going to the Italy/Sweden game last night at the cake tin; good atmosphere and a good game (if a little one-sided!).

I’m glad I took the advice of @invisibleman18 and parked in Stout St, as the bus network was indeed a nightmare. We used buses to get around town for dinner which was ok (but slow enough to mean we didn’t make it to the fan zone), but it was apparently a real mess after the game - we were fine with the car, but others in my family found they were going to need to walk home to Newtown after a concert (but luckily timing was such we were able to head back into down and pick them up).

Nice. I did the same for last night's game too. I find that carpark is always the best option for a weekend event at the stadium.

Snap - I was there too. What a goal fest.

I noticed there was less 'colour' in the crowd compared to the USA - NED game but still a good mood, like you say. There's been a noticeable police presence at all the games but it looks like they've had nothing to do except mingle with the crowd.

After my earlier comments, I need to mention there were extra train services 15 minutes apart - for at least a little while anyway.

The NZ - SUI game starts on Prime soon - a must see game with everything to play for.

If the Football Ferns make it to the last 16 do they play this Saturday at Eden Park?

Just want to make sure I don't buy the wrong ticket... lol.

Depends if they are first or second in the group. First will play in Auckland, second Wellington.

Not sure what the football ferns coach was thinking in moving Jacqui Hand from the right to the left of the park. She's taken one of our most dangerous players on the field and made her all but invisible.

The Swiss was the better team. Quality was our foe - poor passes and execution.

The Football Ferns have gained a lot of fans and this overall in the light of day is a success for the Football Ferns and NZ as hosts.

Names most of us have never heard of are now household names in the space of a few weeks.

Gutted but also realistic of where the team is at in the world.

Well summarised. It has been a successful world cup campaign for the Football Ferns. Making it through to the knockout rounds would have been a fairytale but they have done themselves (and us) proud and really raised the profile of Women's football in this country.

I think you may be being a little optimistic about womens football and football in general in NZ.

I've been following the tournament in the press and on TV news and can probably only name a single player.

Is there even a national league for womens teams in NZ? If there is it has never had any coverage whatsoever in the sports pages of my local paper nor have I ever heard anything on TV about it. Nothing about any local teams either so I assume there aren't any of those.

Without grass roots involvement the game will never be anything other than a minor niche sport, capturing the public's attention every 4 years when the World Cup comes around. Of course next time the Ferns will have to qualify, not a given when they are selecting players from what must be a very small pool.

When the mens game has such little support here it's difficult to see the womens game going anywhere.

At the end of the day it's a team most of us are aware of and the tournament has been good for NZ Football than if it had not been hosted here.

Glass half full.
