That Perez suggested Lawson was "not humble enough" should be the least of his worries. That the older drivers expect deference from the new ones only demonstrates that the closed-shop attitudes from F1 teams in keeping the grid from expanding also permeate down to the senior drivers. I've seen a video somewhere today that in the lead-up to Lawson getting the digit out Perez had brake-tested the young Kiwi. I'll see if I can find the link to that.

Perez should be more concerned with the attitudes of the wider workforce back at the factory. My understanding is that the size of the end of season bonus they all get is directly tied to Red Bull's finishing place in the WCC. If he thinks Lawson doesn't respect him enough, he'd better not wonder too much about the respect he has in Milton Keynes as they are all seeing their Christmas bonuses going down the gurgler because he can't drive the RB20 quickly.

Definitely interesting times.

Aston have poached a lot of top talent and have a lot of money to spend (though must still be subject to the cost cap).
Only room for one real driver there though seems forever stuck.  Enjoyed it when Alonso was surprisingly up near the front again.

Red Bull does not feel like a team on the up anymore, and they're hanging in here now only by virtue of being fast out of the blocks initially this year before everyone else caught up, and saved by several teams getting better spreading the available points haul around.  They're doing just enough to keep within contact, but it does not bode well for next year for them.

Poor Liam has been floating stuck there for far too long waiting in the wings.  The Perez situation is a joke.  He got in with that stunning last to first drive in the BWT pink Mercedes copy car back in 2020, and then helped hold up Hamilton for Max to win in 2021.  That's so long ago now, it's crazy he's been allowed to hang in there this long.  $$$

Daniel didn't get a fair go, but breaking his hand soon after returning and giving Liam a shot just sealed his fate.  They didn't handle his exit and probably retirement well at all, was pretty disgusting treatment really.

Ferrari dumping Carlos feels really wrong, and they may regret that.  He's been a really smart addition and arguably equal to Leclerc or better if conditions aren't perfect.

Rumours:

Red Bull courting Oscar.  Oscar to Red Bull, Carlos back to McLaren sounds good.

Mercedes breaching their cost cap this year.  What this space.

Rumours are just that though, just padding to fill the time between races and seasons.

You get the feeling Red Bull would like to see Hadjar in one of their cars before season's end so they can make a more informed decision on drivers for 2025, especially if Lawson can't deliver consistent Austin-like performances in the remaining races. Both Lawson and Hadjar should be concerned if management continue to have their heads turned by the performance of Colapinto. Horner and Marko are well aware of Albon's level which makes it all that much easier to gauge the Argentinean's ability.

I see the Mexican circuit owners have released a statement suggesting the GP would survive just fine if Perez was no longer on the grid. Plenty of unfulfilled demand for tickets apparently and confident the event would sell out regardless of who is driving. Apparently AT&T are increasing their Red Bull sponsorship with the result being Telmex logos will no longer be on the car. That leaves Perez with only personal sponsors and his ability to sell merch in that part of the world. Don't know how it works but I'll assume he has to kick back some of the personal sponsorship money to the team.

Looking forward to Lawson getting back on track literally and figuratively this weekend. He gets the floor upgrade Tsunoda had for Mexico. The Kiwi was unlucky not to make Q3 with Tsunoda crashing in front of him, could have been a much different weekend. If Perez has another mediocre one, he's toast isn't he?

Ive read that RBR won't want Colapinto for 2 just years. From what Ive read, and the wording/hints from Horner etc, my pick is

Liam replaces Perez after Sao Paulo (as Horner has said Perez will be there)

Hadjar takes the spot in VCARB

This allows Liam and Hadjar to get up to speed in a new car. Better to get 3 races and FP/Qualis in to bed them in for 2025. You don't really want them being learner drivers in March 2025

Agree with all of that. Surely Red Bull has the ability to axe Perez at any time now with minimal financial liability. I don't see how Red Bull would have offered Perez the new contract earlier this season without it being seriously weighted in their favour with get-out clauses for any number of reasons. The Mexican was already in his form slump by then and had next to zero ability to bargain about anything. He must have just been grateful to have a new contract put in front of him under the circumstances.

If Lawson has a clean weekend, benefits from the new floor and can get it into the points, and Perez has his usual weekend then they have to make a change. Perez is just as incompatible with the current RB20 as Ricciardo was with the McLaren of the time, he's never going to turn it around despite his self-belief. There's another three week break until the next round so plenty of time to get the changes done. Iwasa to get the reserve driver role.

Carlos Sainz is also not happy with Lawson because Lawson ignored the blue flags and wouldnt let Sainz pass him.

That is poor form. The only time Perez should have been near Lawson should have been a similar situation. RB cars should be well ahead of VCARB.

If you have F1TV then Jolyon goes into some analysis of the Lawson incidents. He's generally pretty neutral IMO.

He thinks Perez was lucky not to pick up a penalty when tussling with Lawson. And then thought Colapinto was unlucky to get the penalty with Lawson perhaps lucky not to get one.

Entirely agree with this guy, the F1 circus has become entirely too cosy, there's an element of the WWE about it all. Everybody is expected to know their place and the new kids aren't allowed to have the audacity to come along, roll their sleeves up, and get stuck in. If Alonso, Perez, et.al think they have worries now, just wait until we have Lawson, Bearman, Antonelli, Doohan, Piastri and potentially Colapinto on the grid next season as the new guard. Some of these old guys might discover just how flabby they've become banking their cushy multimillion dollar pay cheques and that F1 isn't actually "sports entertainment".

Has it been confirmed that Max is taking a new power unit plus grid penalty this weekend? I assume it is as his odds are high to win either sprint or race.

Max was asked about it and he said it hadn't been decided or he hadn't been told. He did say he thought they would need another PU before the season is up. Would be wise to take it this weekend though with the rain forecast at 50% for Saturday and 70% for Sunday.

I just read he has taken it and a 5 place grid penalty for the race on Sunday (Monday NZ)

I honestly think 5 places isn't enough for a new ICE. Especially as its his second "breach". Perhaps the penalty should grow with each breach. Or make it a points penalty as that'll have teams and drivers rethinking it. Its become a tactical approach now and that should really be stopped.
