What did everyone think of the Race Director/Stewards decisions? I thought they were rubbish. And thats after many were fired and replaced.
Charlie Whiting must be spinning in his grave. I think Max was pissed especially since others didn’t get the same punishment. Did Liam really get two docked two Super Licence points for his hit and spin? Maybe I’m biased but I have seen a lot worse for less punishment.
Total rubbish, ruined a ok-good race, the punishment doesn't fit the crime, however I get the feeling some rules are up for race directors interpretation an others like this one (must lift off/slow down for yellow flag) are hard, fast, clear there is no room for any sort of interpretation and the punishment is clear. 10secs seemed brutal for a wing mirror, understand if it was a stranged car and person trying to get out.
Perez is already eyeing up a seat in a Le Mans car. Thought Lawson made a typical rookie mistake, true pace of the RB was pretty poor as Tsuonda fell back to Lawson. Don't think this race will hurt his chances. my Facebook feed has 20 different articles all saying difference stuff so have no idea what to believe will happen next year. Suspect the deal is already done and all the drivers have to act like they don't know.
Really eventful race weekend, good to see Max on the top step again, Constructors going down to the wire which is great for the interest going into the season finale. Thought the race direction was abysmal, how did they not get a VSC or full SC for the wing mirror? If the last guy was not cutting the mustard, then the new guy is arguably worse.
Some of the talk around the racing has been excellent also. Sounds like Ocon has thrown the toys and is out for the final race, Doohan in. Think Haas have made a mistake in signing him for next season, might be quick enough at times a la Brasil, but there's just too much baggage that comes with him when he's in a strop. Likewise enjoyed Verstappen giving Russell a serve, calling him two-faced and not trusting him. The Brit does give off a smarmy vibe to me. Also thought it was amusing that MBS told him (GPDA) to stay in their lane over their recent comments.
Liam Lawson. Man, I know we all want to see him secure a permanent drive next season but I'm feeling more concerned than a Christmas turkey about that now. Weekend started with good promise in Sprint Quali, but he was pretty average from there on out. Admittedly the car's performance just wasn't suited to this circuit, or it's fallen off a cliff. Getting out-driven by Zhou is a worry. Might be circuit-dependent but that VCARB seems to be the slowest car on the grid now.
One of the guys over at Autosport thinks the result is not as bad as it looks, that there were circumstances which impacted Lawson's race and result. But I dunno. Horner has never been a fan, Liam has always been seen as one of Marko's guys. It won't take much for Horner to start looking at other options, he's been sniffing around Colapinto and there's many rumours saying the Argentine has been signed into the Red Bull family already. The shine has gone off him a bit with the crashes and Hulkenberg did Liam a huge favour by knocking Colapinto out of the race. Had he had a good race in the old spec Williams it would have been very bad for Liam.
There's still that rumour surrounding Haas, Briatore, Doohan and Colapinto. If Doohan is only secure for five races, it could play into the rumour that Briatore wants to put Colapinto in the car after that point. And then there's the Perez situation. All still to play for for Lawson but he needs to have a mega weekend coming up to put a positive spin on this last triple-header, which has been pretty average so far.

at this rate, there is a 0.1% chance Lawson will be team mates with Max in 2025.
he'll be lucky to get a Vcarb contract, depending on Horner's mood, or how much Marko is irritated by the recent string of results, back to back to back to back.
fingers crossed ...

So last 4 races have been poor, well behind Yuki? Like when you said he was schooled. If you watched the race, and listened to commentary, VCARB changed strategy, ran longer IIRC but it didnt work out
You seem to bag him a bit, but finish off fingers crossed also lol

Saw the replay. The lights came on and went yellow just as Lando was passing, so easily missable.
There are however double yellows being manually waved a bit further on which he should have seen.
If it's a standard penalty for that breach then so be it really.
That said if the yellows were for the debris (rather than someone beached off the track etc) then what the heck it should have been a safety car to catch the field and clear the track.
Penalty for going slow in an outlap really sounds like milking it. That was sad the line of enquiry was allowed to continue at all.
Red Bull don't want a driver to be as good as Max and challenge him for titles , they want someone who will score points each week and do what he is told ,so someone like Lawson would be ideal. Tsunoda is at this stage a faster driver but he is also a Honda driver , they asked for him and Red Bull have only one more year with Honda engines.
Common sense is not as common as you think.

I get that. Unashamadly I will put my Kiwi hat on.
Is Yuki faster? 5 races 2023 when Lawson was moved from his free latte to a car he had never driven, and most tracks he had never driven, he out raced Yuki. Stats wise thats good, but IMHO thats huge.
Yuki knows the threat so he has upped his game. Fair enough. He has a long history of crashes. Lawson given his super low experience in F1 and some tracks could be forgiven for binning it, as Williams drivers have done 15 times this season, hasn't happened. When I evaluate his experience and his results, I see it as very positive.
EDIT
If he gets the seat, he wont be bulldozed by Max. He will be a No.2 driver, aim to finish 1,2, or 3 places behind Max, if Max hits the wall, opportunity for a win or a near Max like result. Checo has scored 1/10 this season.
Personal thoughts is RBR ask Williams to buy Sainz. That will be the best team on the grid by a margin. Liam and Yuki get their spot in Red Bull Racing (VCARB) . Williams get $$$$ and look to a solid newcomer, possibly with RBR support.
Ok, going back to the race, what a farce race Director wise, dunno where to start.
A driver passes off track and gains a lasting advantage. Stewards let the teams sort it out, if the off track driver gives the place back, all good. Lewis breaches the start, I assume thats a slam dunk penalty, but he self awarded a penalty, checked up, lost many positions, yet he was given a penalty. Rubbish. So he did the right thing as per my previous point and was given two penalties.
Wing mirror. Thats a health and safety issue, ignored. Should have been immediate VSC. So after many OSH issues in the past that have cost lives or could have done, its ok last race?
Im sure us and drivers could not care less about rules or penalties, as long as they are CONSISTENT
Some one alluded to here that many FIA have been fired. The hires weren't well chosen
Not having at least a VSC immediately to remove that mirror was silly, new race director's honeymoon is over already
Despite the commentators hyperbole standard penalty for ignoring double yellows is 10s stop and go
Lando should have been warned about the yellow, another "not championshp worthy" race management mistake from McLaren, how many has it been this year...
Hamilton, Perez, Ocon hopeless again
Not much happening for Yuki or Lawson, unfortunate incident for Lawson with Bottas
Happy for Zhou and Sauber, avoid the duck
Gasly performing with the finally mid pack decent Alpine
The Race seem to think Lawson is nailed on to replace Perez at Red Bull in 2025. Could be an amazing result for his long wait to make it into F1 IF they can give him a quick car and IF he is able to maximize its potential. As we all know, many have tried and ultimately failed before him.
Anyway, fingers crossed for an early Christmas gift for all Kiwi motorsport fans
I think he will be fine, he wont be racing Max, as I assume others tried to
