Jaxson:

Survive to Drive had taken a ratings dive from memory but there's too much content for them in this season!

Usual games now, odd bit of news over the New Years break, Survice to Drive, Testing, renewal codes hopefully for F1TV.

I decided not to opt for Sky black friday deal offering of $1 per day and hope to renew F1TV at a decent rate...

F1TV has had the discount deal on every year I've been aware of them so far, so hopefully it won't change in the New Year. Normally it comes up just before Testing and runs until just before the start of the season proper.

Marko has been in the media saying the decision on Perez's seat has been made and it will be announced publicly before the end of the week, not that anything he says proves to be particularly reliable. Do think Lawson's going to get the drive now with all the hype around Colapinto having died down. I hope Red Bull is able to build a decent car for 2025, it will be a tough time for him to come in with McLaren, Ferrari and Mercedes all likely to be very strong again. So long as he can compete with them he should be alright but I don't think Red Bull will be of a mind to give him a huge amount of leeway if he doesn't show good speed relatively quickly.

As previously mentioned, looking forward to the Secret Santa video in a couple of days, normally quite entertaining.

Was only for newbies this year, I had the cheap deal in '23 but this year was full price as I had already bought a sub,... would be good if it was cheaper given how crap the quality is on Sky Sports Now.

You need to operate a couple of email addresses, Benoire. I think I got the discount twice in a row by doing this. Would need to go back and check my records as I know I did miss out on it one year due to being disorganised and also thinking the discount period was going to run longer than it did. However, should be possible using a different address next year. Guess we will find out soon enough.

This is what I did for 2024. SInce I use a Gmail address I just used the +blah approach (used f12024...guess what it'll be next year!)

You save a bit but honestly the full price is worth it imho if it doesn't work this year.

Interested in the comments about F1TV pricing posted here by aficionados. I'd be grateful to see some brief reviews or comments on their experience in NZ - for potential newbie subscribers - how it works, how well, etc. I'm thinking of subscribing for 2025.

It might be a no-brainer for me. If I get F1 via Sky Sport Now, it'll cost me $50/month - and there will be some months when F1 is only thing I'm watching.

F!TV, in my opinion, is a quality service.  Its only 1080p resolution but the stream quality on my 4k tv is good.  Has Watch live/from beginning for live events, in car and other timing stuff selectable during the race and replays are up quickly.  They produce a whole load of other content too as you'd expect.  You can choose between Sky Sports UK and F1TV commentators however the Sky Sports audio feed doesn't include their video so no Teds pit walk stuff or trackside talking with Martin Brundle.

I tend to watch Practice on Sky Sports for their added extras and then shift to F1 TV for the race and use uk audio feed.

As above!

Just adding the replays are available immediately too and kept around for a while. I can still watch every session of the season from testing right through to the lastest race. Their archive section looks like it has every race from at least 2010 onwards too. Might go back further - they certainly have some full race replays and highlights from earlier seasons.

App isn't natively supported on my TV (Sony Bravia) but sideloads and runs fine. Even if it didnt, Chromecast is supported too.

I prefer the F1 TV team commentary over the Sky Sports UK one too - seem to be *far* less biased.

As a brit I am already biased so no point attempting to listen to anything else 🤣 I think I'm just indoctrinated in to the main commentators - can't stand crofty or Nico but enjoy listening to Ant, Jenson etc. actual race drivers... I do like that both Sky and F1 commentating teams have former F1 strategy people involved, gives a bigger insight in to what the teams are doing from people that actually know!

The 10min highlights package from each of the practices and quali are excellent as well if your short on time.

Also you get the F3, F2 and some of the Porsche support races.

With Louie Sharp entering F3 next year I'll be back on the F3 band wagon, compared to Sky Sports if F1 is the only sport you care about then F1TV it is great value for money.

Also if you have an F1TV subscription and watch it on a computer check out Multiviewer.  https://multiviewer.app/

It lets you have track maps, in car cameras, data feeds and the main f1 feed open at the same time.  I have a couple of layouts saved with different windows open and positions across the 2 screens.

This year F1TV usual price was $99 and if you get it 1-2 weeks before testing when they had it on special it was $85. (but was only offered to new customers, so had to create a new account with new email address).

the year before it was $100 full price and $80 on special.

With 24 races next year works out @$4.16 per race (or $3.54 per race if you get the $85 special). Pretty good value to for money considering its likely we will have a Kiwi in a top team and another up and coming kiwi in F3.

App support across all platforms is well developed now.

It's all been said above, if you're passionate about F1 then F1TV is a bargain, even at the full asking price.

Great news about Perez and not before time.

Looking forward to Lawson being named to the seat before the end of the week, and looking forward to him proving all the (largely European based) doubters wrong that he isn't good enough. All this 'Gasly couldn't cut it, Albon couldn't cut it' tripe has been riling me up for months since Lawson started to be in the frame. This kid's a Kiwi, a Hawke's Bay-born Kiwi, he'll be tough enough and good enough to shut them all up.

Would like to see Lawson take Pierre Hamlin with him to Red Bull but I'm guessing that's not really an option. Not sure Hugh Bird is the guy to be his Race Engineer, doesn't inspire confidence that Liam will get a fair shake with some of the decisions made. Anyway, time will tell.

Endorsing previous comments re F1TV.

I started with the Sky UK commentary (mostly for Martin Brundle frankly) but the F1TV commentary team has really grown on me. As someone else has previously said, you get the F1TV feed with the SkyTV commentary so sometime there is a disjunct when Sky cuts back to the studio or is talking about a picture in picture replay. I also really dislike Nico Rosberg's commentary so one more benefit for the F1TV feed.

Agreed..great deal for the race and Tech Talk

Sky has more gossips and I think better commentary (when Nico isn't around) and post race interviews but isn't worth paying 10 times the price of F1TV.

Hopefully the deal for 2025 will appear soon
