I must admit, I've long since switched to watching the FIA World Endurance championship (WEC).  Great fan of the Iron Dames (run by Deborah Mayer) in the Porche 911 GT3 R and the Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo2 with Michelle Catting, Sarah Bovy, Doriane Pin, Rahel Frey - they finished 2nd in the LMGTE AM class last year.

The Iron Dames are involved in the F1 driver academy, rally, carting and I believe now equestrian (show jumping).

I think they are partnered with the Iron Lynx Lamborghini Factory team.

GV27: The best thing that ever happened to racing coverage in NZ was paid TV.

I look around and think the exact opposite. Is the NZ fan base not shrinking due to lack of exposure to the V8's (aka a lack of Sky)?

Since going to Sky, I don't think the Supercars have picked up many/any new fans in NZ. Most of the sub 40 y.o. guys at work don't have sky and have never even seen a race.

That is a far cry to the FTA days, when Bathurst was was the Melbourne Cup of (NZ) automotive calendar and there was Bathhurst parties hosted everywhere.

I think the Toyota's are relatable and can only help the situation. There are plenty of young Kiwi's hotting up Toyota's around the place. Mustangs aren't exactly a working mans car.

The quality of a paid TV offering is much better, not denying that, but it tends to drive what were once public events into a niche category.  I do wonder now if the ‘Win on Sunday, sell on Monday’ concept still holds true.  Do people care about this anymore?

My thoughts on Bathurst of late was that it was frankly weird watching American cars drive around an Australian track.
It doesn't have any local flavour to me anymore, and the racing was more reliable (leading to a sub 6 hour race) and felt like less heroics dragging something over the line styles.

So beering that in mind I'm all for Toyota coming into the mix.  It seems really odd to have the race limited to just two entries now, neither of which are really Australian.  Personally I couldn't get behind either company.  Heck the current racing Chevrolet Comaro isn't even manufactured anymore now, but presumably a new one will come.  I'd love to see a return to the open periods of the '90s with a large range of cars going for it.

Maybe less of an open category but more homolagation. Group N with mixed classes?
IE you need to sell ten thousand of the model and race it with a cage and not much else.

xpd:

Toyota will join the Supercars grid in 2026, pitting its GR Supra against the Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro.

Except, the 6 cylinder Supra GR production version is actually a BMW!

Does Toyota even make a 2UR-GSE Supra production version?
