You can always go to indy later, look at grosjean

It's only been a few races, let him cook. Remember Russell was at Williams for 3 years, Yuki was 4 years at the sister/junior team. Even Max was over 1 year at the junior team.

i think right now he seriously need to have a mentor. he seems to be portrayed as picking fights with other people inc veterans, and every time he's interviewed there is always something else to blame.

other rookies keep their head down and drive. be it Doohan or Antonelli, Bearman or Hadjar, you don't hear anything about bad mouthing others or things like that.

maybe a small change in mindset, just figure out how to drive the Vcarb around the black stuff and let the driving do the talking.

I feel like maybe he feels the need to be aggressive and "front foot" the conversations, as he feels picked on, or something.
A good team would put someone between him and the press, they wouldn't have him fronting media as a rookie - they'd protect him and allow him to concentrate on driving.

Instead he comes off looking petulant and aggressive.

I haven't seen any such issues this year with Liam. Last race he said the car was more then decent, but quali was ruined due to the DRS issue. Then bad strategy that and the previous race. However, that all gets shoved under the carpet by the media, Perhaps they are over him being the big talking point pre season, now its a case of yet another poor race. Id like to see a couple of races with no strategy or mechanical issues just to see what he can do. I feel he will be dumped mid season for Lindblad, nothing seemingly for RB to lose there, but gain a bit by testing Lindblad

Marcus Armstrong doing ok in Indycar, 2024 he got 13 top 10's in 32 races, including 4 top 5's. That's a likely and probable option in the near future

I’m of the opinion that Liam could use some media training. It appears he needs to step up and figure out how to handle the pressure of his current situation. His past stints in F1 show he is talented but we all know this is a ruthless sport and he needs to start scoring some points.

Four races in and the narrative is becoming harder to budge for Lawson unfortunately. He's rated as the 20th racer in F1 so far this season on all the popular motorsport websites, and his prospects are becoming slimmer with every passing weekend.

Meanwhile all the other new drivers are being more impressive than him. This has the potential to be a fairly immediate problem for Lawson in the case of Doohan. With Colapinto waiting in the wings the Aussie is doing the business so far and leaving Alpine with an expensive spare sitting in the garage twiddling his thumbs. The consensus seemed to be that Doohan would fail and Colapinto would come straight in but that is looking most unlikely to happen as of now.

Lindblad has already accumulated points in F2 but doesn't turn 18 until August. I think that realistically would be the point at which any driver swap might occur with Lawson, but Red Bull have applied for the dispensation to get him in earlier than that for FP1 running so who knows. If Lindblad keeps performing at F2 and Lawson keeps failing at F1, it will only be a matter of time.

Lawson just has to have a better weekend in Saudi. It would be hugely disappointing to see him turfed out before the end of the season but there is nowhere to hide with the convergence of the cars under this spec and the overall strength of the driver grid right now. He's got to start showing some of the skill he demonstrated in his previous two seasons as a replacement. He's already sitting on 5 penalty points out of the allowed 12 as well.

I do wonder how much of a difference it has been not having Pierre Hamelin as his race engineer. Hamelin comes across with much more of a "coaching" style on the radio, always in Liam's ear about splits to Yuki. Desiderio is a definite improvement on what Lawson had with Wood at Red Bull, who appeared to engineer Liam like he was Perez's best mate, but he's still no Hamelin. No chance of splitting the two Frenchmen up once that became the 2025 pairing though.

Another way to look at this is Liam’s now had the luxury of trying two different cars and not been able to progress with either.

Yuki by contrast has not completely sucked. Knowing how small the operating window is with that car he’s doing fairly well, not a total drop out crash and burn.  Frustrating to think though he may be scoring updates that have improved the car since Liam has departed.

Yeah. No matter the bias, Liam couldn't adapt, and Yuki has. FP today, Yuki close, but Max had issues. Altered the front suspension so Max edges away, but Yuki is near enough to ball park, despite having ditched it later. Liam has had much more bad luck than good luck, so he needs to show up this weekend as the media/Red Bull ignore the luck, focuses just on results.  Seems to have an edge on Hadjar on what is a drivers track. FP3 which has the quali runs will be interesting as well as quali. He needs to show up this weekend, otherwise he will be seen as a driver that belongs in F1, but only just. Dispensable.

I expect Oscar to shine again, he is todays Iceman. Lando suffers with his emotions. Never been a fan of George but Id like him to shine again, he deserves it.

Go Carlos too

Epic quali session this morning, Verstappen again proving he is the GOAT. Piastri doing what he looks built to do, Norris likewise.

Lawson had an okay session, achieved about as much as could be expected in the circumstances. Needs to sort out his self-inflicted errors though. Wasted two brand new sets of softs through FP3 and Quali by making mistakes. Still, fair's fair, he got out of Q1 and up to P12 when Hadjar could only manage P14. Not sure the prospects for points tomorrow, it's going to be tough, he needs to finish higher than Hadjar as a minimum though.

I used to enjoy Martin Brundle as a presenter on Sky's F1 coverage. I no longer get that because I switched to F1 TV.

Then this weekend, here's a young presenter fella I hadn't seen before - Alex Brundle. Uncannily like his dad - as may be expected - but the voice, appearance and mannerisms were like déjà vu all over again. Seems to know his stuff too.

Yes he is good, often does or did F2 commentating. Knowledge, nice one liners, it all adds to the atmosphere.

Yes it was. Max being Max. He got a very small tow for a small amount of time, not much, but certainly more than 1/100. They have improved the car so should be a good race.

Hard to pick the race. If Max leads on turn 1, he wont get passed on track. They are quicker top end speed than McLaren. If Oscar did get past on turn 1 or an early DRS, might be a but vulnerable on the DRS to Max, and also George. All about strategy, but more so on safety cars/red flag, being strategic and bank on them, and set the strategy around SC or RF's.

Liam, I'm getting the feeling that a long bedding in time or prep that Yuki and Kimi had, matters more than I anticipated. Forget the pressure to succeed every race, and get on with racing. Media side has dried up, so go racing. Hadjar seems to have an edge, but he makes mistakes too, more so IMO. He may well crack if Liam starts nipping at the heels and finishing ahead.

Yuki, he does deserve the seat, has to be said. Adapting better. Often looks close to Max but when the hammer is down he is 4, 5 or 6/10 off. Horner seems happy enough. Yuki doest want to bin it for a few races, as that may breed a media trend. End of the day he isnt doing any better than Perez, but he may improve a abit more.

Lando. Driver error but a bit stiff. Usually lose a 1/10 with a dodgy turn plus more on following turns, then the error is over, but got unlucky. Should move through to 4th if the top 3 complete the race.

Max    If he can keep away from an early DRS pass if he keeps turn 1, should win unless McLaren or Mercedes grab better strategy

Oscar  Probably follow Max throughout. If he gets past on Turn 1 or early DRS, he will ease away. Last week he won by 20+ seconds.

George. Driving great, ready to pick up any pieces. Which could well be a win if the top 2 get jiggy with it. Cross fingers and toes that doesnt happen, be a huge pity if the top two took each other out early doors, re as an event. George may or may not think otherwise!

Yes you can. Just select International in the drop down list on the righthand side. It gets you the Sky presenters when using F1 TV.

Im so glad we have an option now to not listen to the UK Sky bias, its pretty bad once you have had a chance to listen to a global commentary crew.

Had no idea you could do that. Will check it out in the morning but I’ve got used to F1 TV over the past few weeks and may stay with that.

Just a heads up the international feed goes quiet for times outside the race. Something like that from memory.

Quite a fun race, a lot going on. Strategy was the key

Turn 1. Max was fine trying the outside, hoping that Oscar might cave a little, didnt work. GP should have told him to give the place back, then do what Lewis and Max have done before, give it back just before the DRS marker line. Strategy fail there.

Lando the same, took him a few goes to clear Lewis who keep DRS-ing him, that likely cost Lando a podium

Liam made quite a few passes, good to see. Why did he get a 10 second penalty, left the track and gained an advantage? Why 10 seconds???

Hadjar good, he had better tyre strategy as it played out, start on hards, finish on mediums.

LeClerc was great, driver of the day IMO

EDIT Lawson was penalised when, on the 28th of 50 laps, he was judged to have left the track to overtake Alpine’s Jack Doohan, and gained an advantage in doing so.

Why did he get 10 seconds and Max 5?
