I'll be trying to watch the race on Sunday.
Depends on how long it takes to move house on the weekend.
Should have moved earlier. Oh well. Can't be changed now.

+1 for Holden to win though :)

phlegmboy:

As for the Skylines, If the only way they can beat a heavy, normally aspirated, non-adjusdtable diff, non adjustable gearbox two wheel drive pushrod V8 is by stuffing the thing full of trick diffs, gearboxes, turboes and trick 4 wheel drive, then that just proves the car is crap.

Finally! A Holden driver that admits that their car is based on antiquated redundant technology :D
But I'm not sure how it proves that a car is crap? If anything, you've re-enforced that the V8's were the crap car ;)

However, now that its strictly a bent 8 race, its not so much a matter of who has a better car. They're all pretty much controlled now. Engine type and capacity and power etc. The tyres... Even the acutual wheelbase of the cars has to be modified from the road going versions.

What it boils down to is that its Ford or Holden due to brand or driver loyalty. Not due to difference in a cars performance. So whether the driver cut their teeth in a Holden or a Ford really doesn't count for anything. Its all about the team these days. From the driver to the managers to the pit crew. How well they all perform determines a win.

So a two wheel drive car doing 300Kph using "antiquated" technology is crap? Wow. So, please tell me, just how many times did the Skyline win at Wellington? Zero, Zip, Zilch, Nada, None. Yep, that's right. Their trick front diffs could not handle the bumps along cable street which, strangely enough did not seem to affect any other 4wd cars. Go figure. Oh, and the engines in the V8's comes from each brands parent operations so there is a difference between them.

Ans to answer joker97, the reason they were not faster today is that a lot of the rubber had been washed off the track, which reduced grip and also the 15C air temperature and overcast conditions which reduced the track temperature meant that tyre temperatures and pressures did not get up to their optimal levels and so grip was compromised. Also the fact that the cars are rev limited and only have a small set of ratios they can use in the gearbox ajnd differential means that it is harder and harder to set absolute records.

The Lap Of The Gods was one of those freak occurrences where the car and driver were in synch with the track and weather and the result was magic. Will it happen again? Quite probably. Will I be disappointed that Murph no longer hold the la0p? Al little but i will also applaud the driver who takes it, no matter which brand he drives, for driving such a formidable lap.

I'd go on a Vegan diet but the delivery time from Vega is too long.

arguably how many times has an aussie v8 won Nurburg- what was the terminology... to quote "Zero, Zip, Zilch, Nada, None. Yep, that's right" everything has a perspective.. while the latest production skyline has the lap record for a production car beating (insert foreign exotic super cars here...) cars 20x its price...
wiki is my source...

just spent the last 7 hours watching tv3 and Murph... what a race :) hats off to murph and scaife - bloody safety car with 15? laps to go - murph and scaife should have won.... 4/1000ths for 3rd - bloody awesome..

What really pisses me off is that they didnt show the award ceremony...

I'm rather shocked. For once they didn't slipstream (all of) the coverage!

We had a 42" with 3 coverage, and a 40" beside it with live internet timing. It wasn't hard to spot the 2nd to last SC where Murph's chances went out the window that the restart was replayed. They even removed the "live" part of the logo.

I suspect a result of the drongos playing so many ads when the SC was out and messing it up! And my were there some ad breaks!!

So much for live un-interupted coverage, they clearly don't follow the aussies ad breaks. I think last time they said they need to play ads to pay for the rights, and they can never know how long the breaks are going to be.

And don't get me started on the cruddy news coverage. Normal races.. change to C4. The big one.. leave malcolm in the middle repeats going. WTF!

Shame I can't tune my sat into D2 easily and get the raw feed like I use to from D1 when TVNZsport were messing with the feed/showing ads :(

Yes I will give TV3 credit there, I was worried they were going to insert a lot of ad breaks which would push the coverage out till 9pm

credit? - its their business - there were heaps of add breaks and to start was coinciding with channel7.
They show 2 hours of yesterdays coverage in the morning but can't spare another 10 mins for the winning awards presentation... that IS part of Bathurst, any race for that matter...

Ok, so you name one place where the Skyline wasn't very good. How about you name the places where the Skyline gave the V8's a right beating? ;) I think you'll find that it far out numbers Wellington ;)
And YOU call a car that is able to beat your two wheel drive car that does 300kph crap?

Heres the low down on racing: With equal drivers, crap cars don't win.

Also, you've just repeated what I've said. Being from a different company is pretty much the ONLY difference between them. Thats what I was getting at...

These days, if you REALLY want to compare Holdens and Fords, you can't do it in V8 Supercars, you can only do it in the road cars.

I thought the 15 minute news was great :) just teh way it should be every night.

Wish I had D2 but I just have terrestrial :(
That Supercheap advert with the wheelbarrow got tiresome though

The first time in Wellington, they had a blown Turbo and it was won by a BMW M3
second time, with the blown diff, they still managed 3rd after the BMW M3 and Holden driven by Peter Perfect. That's the good thing about the R32s, you can just turn the 4wd off by pulling the fuse. In the other 4wds you would've had to drop the half shafts out and plugged the front diff...on any of the 4wds racing that day, they would've just retired rather than spending 25 minutes in the pits
