tdgeek: When Putin said, it the fault of Ukraine for starting the war, that implies to me, we did it, but they started the war that allowed this scenario to occur.

If you are talking about the annexation of crimea, where the people were given a referndum, as " starting the war" what do you think Putin should have done about his massive military base in Crimea? Should he have just given it up to the US/UN ? Thats about as likely as the Us giving up one of their bases to Russia.
You have to ignore a lot of pretext to avoid the fact that the west's meddling was what started the war. 5 Billion buys a lot of cookies.

Ok I'm not literate on Crimea, but Ukraine is Ukraine, who started that war, which is what Putin was referring to

Yes, same place, this is what started the war.

Have just watched some video clips (on stuff.co.nz and nos.nl) of the bodies arriving at Eindhoven and being transported to the military base at Hilversum.  Quite sobering and it's good to see the victims being treated with lots of respect and dignity.

Not much news but anyone knows if the investigators are making any progress?

Not exactly investigation progress but the latest roughly translated from a Dutch news site:

  • The voice recorders have not been tampered with
  • the Dutch prime minister is talking to leaders of other countries to establish an international police presence to secure the crash-site.

Black boxes have arrived in UK on behalf of Dutch led investigation and that has started. Not that anything major will come from that but some small bits of the larger jigsaw perhaps.

There is fighting in the area as well, so not very safe, there is a need to have a DMZ in the surrounding area, maybe 10 miles square of the site?

My input on this entire thing is that it is a HUGE tragedy for our country (The Netherlands).
I can wholeheartedly say that I have never been as impacted by an event like this (bar maybe 9/11) despite not knowing anybody on board.
I'm actually going to attend the London MH17 Memorial at the Dutch Embassy this evening.

Watched yesterday's broadcast all afternoon and got a bit teary a few times.

Here is a compilation

networkn: Anyone know how I can tell what route NZ to Singapore, Singapore to Milan takes? I recently won a trip and am feeling a little anxious and I am not the best flyer at the best of times?

I heard today of a site that does that I'm sure. Maybe on this thread? Worth a Google

It crosses just south of Crimea (Ukraine)
