Stuff says Airbus, but Flightradar say:

No FR24 coverage in the area where Air Algerie flight disappeared. was scheduled to be flown by a Boeing 737-600. Still no confirm.

RT : GDS timetable shows AH5017 is operated by 737-600, however Air Algerie Inventory shows MD83

Spanish operator Swiftair operating a MD83 were operating this flight for Air Algiers. Swiftair have said they have lost contact with the aircraft.  Apparently it went missing in Malian airspace just before the Algiers border after the crew asked to change course due to poor visibility and also to reduce the risk of collision with another aircraft.  Some of that reason for a change of course doesn't make total sense. 

Some questions being asked as to what armament the rebels in Mali have.

It really shows how inaccurate many sources of news that mainstream media are these days. It was established well before 10pm NZ time that it was a MD83.

BBC World also had an "aviation expert" on overnight saying no MD83s have ever flown in the USA.. Yeah right.
