Hi.

Are Uber not allowed at the airport? Both when trying to book to and from the airport, I couldn't find a vehicle. As I am about to spend 5 days there for business, I'd like to make sure I have availability if it's there.

Was it bad luck or is Uber not really big in CHCH?

Not terribly big here. More so the pub crawlers. Possibly unless they have the usual taxi drop/pickup charge-card they may get told to move on rapidly.

Infact a quick search turned up thats what it was/is last year before P endorsement at least.

And even later suggesting walk a bit first. Similarly to the red bus, $12 from airport. or jump on the first stop for a heap less

There for 5 days, grab a rental. Just easier all round.

Go Rentals or Apex Rentals are great.

I had the same issue on Friday last week, twice went to book Ubers and none showing available - I thought for a second that the app was broken or wasn't showing available cars anymore - Ended up organizing a shuttle.

Uber is not officially allowed to operate from the airport.

The airport refuses to give them a paid spot (Wellington and Auckland now have this) and some drivers are scared of security so won't pickup or drop off there. The best pickup spot is my the hotel at the end of the carpark.

Having said that all the drivers I've had recently have no issues with drop offs and don't care about the airport staff monitoring the parking.

Dropping off is not a problem. I used it several times.

For pick up, you either need to make an arrangement with the driver (he/she will give you the instructions) OR walk towards the city to about the first bus stop (maybe 10 to 15 minutes walk).

The BUS is very cheap and handy too. With a BUS card, its only $4.
