Just realised seems like the MUNI pass won't cover my bus trips from near SFO Airport to CBD? Seems like those buses are operated by http://www.samtrans.com/ if I'm not mistaken.

Thanks @Krishant007 ! Will add what I don't already have to my list of things to do! I may just pay the $5 a day roaming with Vodafone for phone plan.

I booked at La Quinta Inns And Suites... Not sure if they're good or not. Pictures say okay but reviews are mixed as they were apparently just finishing renovations.

La Quinta Inns is a franchise here. So they must have multiple locations. As long as you are close to the BART, you will be fine. Even if you are not, dont underestimate the power of Uber here. An uber trip to the city at particular times can cost like $15-$20 depending where you are coming from and at what time. Or you can even uber to the nearest BART station. They actually have Uberpool where you can split the costs with multiple people. Lots of people do this to get to the BART station.

Oh also a point of note, even though the BART connects SFO airport to the city, you pay extra if you get off at SFO. Just remember that. I was stung by this during one of my commutes. Extra meaning like $7 or something extra. Its okay for that one off trip, but if you choose to get on and off there for your daily trips, that cost can add up.

It's US$4.40 extra for the SFO BART station. You need to weight this up vs getting to Milbrae or San Bruno depending on where you're staying, as pretty much every hotel offers free airport shuttles so it's super easy to get to/from the airport.

Accommodation prices near the airport can easily be US$300 per night cheaper than the City during busy times of the year so it's always going to be a matter of weighting up price vs convenience.

I've stayed near the airport on my last few trips due to pricing in the city. When I'm there in October my 3 nights in the city would have cost around NZ$1800 had I not used Hilton points.

Which place did you stay at near the airport and was it decent?

Most recently (ie past couple of years) I've stayed at the Hilton, Crowne Plaza and Best Western. The Crowne Plaza was pretty average. The Embassy Suites south and Doubletree are also both nice but it's been a while since I've been to them so can't offer advice as to what they're likely currently.

I like the Hilton but in part that's because I have Honors Diamond status so get upgrades and lounge access. They also don't charge for packages which is a bonus for an airport hotel as many now do due to all the people who use them as their own Amazon Locker.

San Francisco is simply just a very expensive place. Depending on the time of the year you will find accommodation slightly cheaper again further south, but you'll need to rely on the Caltrain to get into the city.

I guess I will get a Clipper card. Sounds like the easiest way to load passes and money on a single card. I wonder if this is any better than AT Hop. tongue-out

Can you buy/load money into a Clipper Card using a credit card or is it cash only?
