Along with Steve's blog you will also need something like Flightradar24 to see the registration of the aircraft scheduled to operate that flight.

On NZ2 at the moment - 2.5 hours away from LAX. WiFi has been working thruout the entire trip.

This time it was $25 (No GST) for the 12 hour flight and I have been getting 20M down and 5M up the entire trip.

Clear instructions on the IFS with a public WiFi SSID to connect to a few mins after take off.

I was all excited to try this when we flew to San Fran on June 22, however they told us on take-off that there was a problem with the satellites and it was down worldwide. Hopefully doesn’t happen again on the way home!

I was on some Delta flights a couple of weeks ago between LA and Atlanta (737-900 and A321) and they had an interesting wifi setup. Basic test messaging was free (skype, whatsapp, imessage only) and full internet was 15USD. For me the free whatsapp messaging (text only) was fantastic to give me uninterrupted catch up time with the family without the temptation to do work or other things. It was odd to find something free on a US airline as those guys make most of their profit through add-ons but very welcome. Oh, and being Delta of course my baggage was a day behind me on the flights **sigh**.
