Check out the absurdity of these questions, why on earth is time of departure relevant to obtaining permission to travel home when the date is also asked for? in what case would flights from one particular place be ok if you left in the morning, but not if you left in the afternoon?

I think it extremely weird the nitpicking going on here. It's a simple form.

It is a simple but pointless form. Doesn't being asked to do pointless things annoy you? I find it weird that some people comply unquestioningly rather than asking "why are we being made to do this in order to be allowed entry to our own country?" and push back on needless, inefficient things.

Simple or complex, 5 min or 30 is not the point. It is the pointlessness that irritates, along with the authoritarian aspect that you may not return to your own country without furnishing it. Further, it has caused people to become distressed, it will be difficult for the elderly and anyone who doesn't do computer stuff, and it is annoying for tourists who may decide to go elsewhere.

I think we're all in agreement that its not necessary but its there, and it take less time to complete it than whine about it.

You need to multiply the time by the number of people. And also subtract the time taken by people whining about people whining! :-)

But seriously, the ad-homs and pejoratives here getting directed at anyone who pushes back against their perceived government bureaucratic overreach... "whining", "weird" etc. Seriously? Can't we bounce around the pros and cons without calling each other names? Is this forum for discussions or just discussions where we happen to agree with the prevailing government dogma?

Agree, This means you must have access to a computer or smart phone with internet access while overseas, take time out of your holiday to check your itinerary for flight details, load them all on to this form, submit it, wait for an email with your QR code. Hope like hell your phone is charged when you are at the airport so you can present your permission to travel home to the check out counter.

I cant believe some (abiet a minority) people do not see the problem with this, especially when there is absolutely no justifiable reason for it, look at the size of this thread since my original post, and yet not one post can provide a reason why this traveler pass is necessary.

I did it before i have left....i return within the 21 days (I think it was)

If you can, do it before you leave, easy

Some of us (have to) travel a lot. And we have to fill that thing out over and over again.

There are no ad hominems and pejoratives from people complaining? Really?

I don’t think anyone has a particular problem with discussing it, it’s the over the top whining that’s grating. The way it’s been described in this thread you would presume that it is actually preventing New Zealanders from entering the country when that is not the case.

MIQ actually prevented people from entering, me included. This doesn’t, it’s just a form which is mildly inconvenient and will likely disappear shortly.

I am pretty sure I am not missing the point.

Thanks for the passive-aggressive comment. Saying someone is "whining" and mentioning "weird nitpicking" is not ad hominem. Read it again.

I think the problem is that I am looking at things with a holistic view, and most people are just engaging with a single topic.

No not me, there's plenty of people not happy about it, rightly so.

Do we need some real overreach with the Government saying to streamline things all information gathered will be shared by all departments?

At present there doesn't seem to be any arrangement for Health to share Customs data.

A privacy complication?

Correct. Everything MoH had to do around COVID-19 (including the tracer app) had huge privacy implications and had to be cleared before being allowed.

The article linked in the previous reply says at some point everything will be done online instead of having both online and paper forms.

I fail to see what the privacy complication of Customs providing data to MoH is when the alternative is... MBIE collecting a duplicate of the same data that Customs is collecting and providing it to MoH and Customs.

According to the Traveller Declaration privacy policy, they actually provide a copy of the data they collect to Customs so it seems to me they already have the framework in place to just disappear the Incoming Passenger Cards with the flick of a finger. (Again, I prefer the online approach to paper - so long as paper options exist for those that need them. Oh, and it'd be nice if you could create some sort of account or log in with RealMe to not have to re-enter the details that don't change, such as your name, date of birth, and most of the time passprt).

As an aside, talking about how not showing up without a pass just means filling in a form is wrong. Under the relevant legislation, arriving in New Zealand without filling in the form is an offence, which carries a $500 fine. The paper forms are actually Customs and Immigration exercising discretion to not fine you - they aren't legally required to let you fill in that paper form at all.

Covid-19: Lockdowns, vaccine mandates and MIQ to be removed from Govt Covid powers - NZ Herald

The Government will be removing about 10 of its current Covid-19 powers, including the ability to implement lockdowns, vaccine mandates and MIQ as it overhauls the Covid-19 laws.

The NZ Herald understands the Government will announce an amendment to its Covid-19 legislation and will be repealing some of its restrictions placed on New Zealanders throughout the pandemic.

It's believed these include lockdowns, vaccine mandates, managed isolation and quarantine, and the Covid-19 traveller declaration used for incoming travellers.

It comes as Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern confirmed there would be a "significant narrowing" of the Government's Covid-19 powers amid an update to the relevant legislation.
