And just like any mob boss I read "take her out" as "kill her".

But obviously he didn't clearly say that so can't do much with it...

The New York Times - Schiff, Calling Trump ‘Wrathful and Vindictive,’ Sees Tweet as a Threat

Jan. 26, 2020

WASHINGTON - Representative Adam B. Schiff, the House’s lead impeachment manager, accused President Trump of trying to threaten him on Twitter and urged Republican senators to find the “moral courage to stand up” to a “wrathful and vindictive president.”

Mr. Trump, writing on Twitter Sunday morning, attacked Mr. Schiff as “a CORRUPT POLITICIAN, and probably a very sick man,” warning, “He has not paid the price, yet, for what he has done to our Country!”

It was an extraordinary back-and-forth between a member of Congress and a sitting president, coming at a turning point in Mr. Trump’s impeachment trial on charges of high crimes and misdemeanors - the third presidential impeachment trial in American history. ...

"Modern Presidential" ?  😕

Just like Trump's a failed business man, he's a failed mobster.

Trump's tweet about Adam Schiff is mild by Trump's standards. He actually used the qualifier "probably."

If Schiff were brown, or a woman, or God forbid a brown woman, the threats would have been more "Trumpian."

The nutters will take this as license to go after Schiff with a gun. Trump is despicable, and those who enable him, even worse.

The New York Times - Trump Tied Ukraine Aid to Inquiries He Sought, Bolton Book Says

Jan. 26, 2020

WASHINGTON - President Trump told his national security adviser in August that he wanted to continue freezing $391 million in security assistance to Ukraine until officials there helped with investigations into Democrats including the Bidens, according to an unpublished manuscript by the former adviser, John R. Bolton.

The president’s statement as described by Mr. Bolton could undercut a key element of [Trumps's] impeachment defense: that the holdup in aid was separate from Mr. Trump’s requests that Ukraine announce investigations into his perceived enemies, including former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. and his son Hunter Biden, who had worked for a Ukrainian energy firm while his father was in office. ...

The book presents an outline of what Mr. Bolton might testify to if he is called as a witness in the Senate impeachment trial ...

The New York Times - 5 Takeaways on Trump and Ukraine From John Bolton’s Book

New revelations from the former White House national security adviser could complicate President Trump’s impeachment trial.

Jan. 26, 2020

  1.  Mr. Trump tied his willingness to release aid to Ukraine on investigations he sought.

  2.  Mr. Trump was at odds with his senior national security officials.

  3.  Mr. Bolton says he talked to Barr and Pompeo about Giuliani.

  4.  Mr. Bolton is willing to testify. The White House doesn’t want him to.

  5.  The manuscript introduced a significant twist to the impeachment trial.

Republicans used to be people of honour for the most part, but this has turned into a naked power grab. They now seem to care about nothing but winning, whatever the means. I hope all these new damning revelations that keep leaking out will mean death by a thousand cuts for Trump the Terrible and his corrupt minions, but those in control seem to have no shame. This may well end up as a coup against democracy. If Trump gets past this and the next election, we will start seeing Putin-style 'reforms' that end in a family dynasty dictatorship that will put the Kims to shame.

While not directly related to Trump, those interested in contemporary world politics could be interested in a documentary on Netflix about politics in Brazil over the past couple of decades. It’s called The Edge of Democracy, and makes a good pairing with other recent docos like The Great Hack (Cambridge Analytica) to demonstrate where politics and, more generally, society is headed in so many parts of the world. Scary stuff.

The New York Times - President’s Defense Attacks Biden and Declines to Mention Bolton

today

President Trump’s defense lawyers are arguing about the basis of the House’s impeachment inquiry and the president’s rights of due process and executive privilege.

So far, they have offered an alternative rationale for why he froze security aid for Ukraine, ignoring revelations from the president’s former national security adviser that directly contradict their case.

The defense began its promised assault on former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. and his son, Hunter, on Monday, describing what they said was significant evidence of corruption that made Mr. Trump’s interest in the case proper.

Republicans are angrily pressing the White House in private about the revelations from a manuscript by John R. Bolton, the former national security adviser, that said Mr. Trump wanted to continue freezing security aid to Ukraine until he got help with investigations into Democrats.

They said they were blindsided by the former adviser’s account - especially because the administration has had a copy of it since Dec. 30. ...

The Washington Post - The 29 defenses Trump’s allies have floated on Ukraine and impeachment

today

As House Democrats have investigated President Trump’s dealings with Ukraine over the past four months, Republican lawmakers and Trump allies have floated no fewer than 29 defenses of the president ...

[headings only]

01. Trump’s July 25 call with Ukraine’s president was appropriate
02. There was no quid pro quo
03. The July 25 call was inappropriate but not impeachable
04. Trump was expressing his opinion on the July 25 call
05. Even if there was a quid pro quo, it wasn’t a ‘corrupt’ quid pro quo
06. Even if there was a quid pro quo, this happens in foreign policy
07. Trump was unaware of the quid pro quo
08. Trump is incapable of a quid pro quo
09. Trump’s public call for Ukraine and China to investigate the Bidens was not serious
10. Interpreting Trump’s actions amounts to ‘differences of opinion’
11. The whistleblower complaint was based on hearsay
12. The whistleblower complaint was inaccurate
13. The whistleblower has a political bias
14. The whistleblower is part of the ‘deep state’
15. The impeachment inquiry is a secret and unfair process
16. Trump didn’t receive his due-process rights
17. Ukraine said there was no pressure
18. Ukraine did not agree to any investigations
19. Ukraine did not know the security aid was held up
20. Ukraine ultimately got the security aid
21. Impeachment is a coup d’etat
22. Democrats wanted to impeach Trump as soon as he was inaugurated
23. Sondland never directly heard Trump mention Ukrainian security aid
24. It’s the media’s fault
25. Ukraine interfered in the 2016 election
26. The impeachment inquiry is moving too quickly
27. Trump has not been accused of a crime
28. Biden is not Trump’s political opponent
29. Trump never withheld an Oval Office meeting from Ukraine

The article details all of these defenses, and debunks them all.

The Washington Post - Former Trump chief of staff John Kelly says he believes Bolton

today

John Kelly, who served as Trump’s chief of staff from July 2017 through January 2019, suggested Monday that he’d take Bolton’s word over that of his former boss.

Kelly was asked about Bolton’s claim in a yet-to-be-released book that Trump had told him he wanted to make aid to Ukraine contingent on an investigation of the Bidens.

If John Bolton says that in a book, I believe John Bolton,” Kelly said ...

Trump has vigorously denied Bolton’s account.

This should be good.

I'm sure it'll go better than his casino, airline, vodka, charity, marriages, board game, steaks, magazine, mortgage company, travel website, corporate telephone communication services, university, Mexican investments, ...

And I'm sure Palestinians will definitely believe his guarantee of jobs for peace, and a "win-win" for everyone involved.

After all his fellow genius and son-in-law Jared, who didn't get the job because of his family relation, is widely known for his extensive diplomatic experience and unending successes in Middle East diplomacy.

Trump unveils 'ultimate deal' for Middle East peace
