Supreme court voted that state prosecutors can see Trump's financial data.

The Supreme Court on Thursday rejected President Trump’s assertion that he enjoys absolute immunity from investigation while in office, allowing a New York prosecutor to pursue a subpoena of the president’s private and business financial records.

In a separate case, the court sent a fight over congressional subpoenas for the material back to lower courts because of “significant separation of powers concerns.” Since both cases involve more work at the lower level, it seems unlikely the records would be available to the public before the election.

Combined, the decisions offer the court’s most detailed examination of presidential power and congressional authority in decades, and Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. wrote for the majority in both 7-to-2 decisions. The court seemed to avoid some tough questions in an attempt to achieve greater agreement.

Three things really:

1) Unlike NZ, the US has major tax loopholes that allow someone of Trump's wealth to pay minimal tax and even claim money back to be in credit. So it might be embarrassing to be exposed as a leech off the tax system, given how often the GOP rages against the welfare state.

2) There is bound to be some dicey or embarrassing accounting that Congress would find on Trump if given the opportunity.

3) Maybe there are some deals that went sour, and he really isn't as rich or successful as he claims to be.

BBC News - Trump: Supreme Court ruling a 'witch hunt' and 'hoax'

today

The US Supreme Court has ruled that President Trump's financial records can be examined by prosecutors in New York.

In a related case, the court ruled that this information did not have to be shared with Congress.

The president has come under fire for not making his tax returns public like his predecessors.

White House Press secretary Kayleigh McEnany insisted his tax returns would be made available after they have finished being audited.

I won't believe he will release his taxes until it's released. There is one man that always finds a way out. I'm waiting for the judges to be sacked and new ones installed.

Batman:  I won't believe he will release his taxes until it's released. ...

The New York Times  - Don’t Be Fooled, Trump Is a Winner in the Supreme Court Tax Case

By Josh Chafetz     Mr. Chafetz is a law professor.

July 9, 2020

The first reports on Thursday’s Supreme Court decisions dealing with the subpoenas for President Trump’s financial records sounded like bad news for the president in his effort to keep them hidden.

But don’t be fooled.

There were actually two winners, and you wouldn’t know that from the headlines: the president and Chief Justice John Roberts.

First, Mr. Trump won, because we almost certainly won’t get to see his financial records anytime soon. ...

Mr. Roberts, too, comes out a big winner. He gets to posture as nonpartisan ...

Sure, the delays defeat the entire purpose of the subpoenas, but the judges will piously intone, as they have in the past, that they don’t think about things like the electoral calendar. ...

If Mr. Trump and the chief justice are the winners, then who lost?

First and foremost, the people did - we have now lost any realistic chance of knowing about Mr. Trump’s financial dealings before deciding whether or not to re-elect him to the presidency. ...

He can't sack a Supreme Court justice without creating a constitutional crisis as they are appointed for life. Also, even the ones appointed by Donald voted against him.

He disagrees with himself daily - so it's not automatic.

SC judges can be impeached.  It last happened in 1805 - and the judge was acquitted.

The president can't do it, though.

I read somewhere last year that he is in so much hock to Deutsche Bank, who have keep him afloat and that he has lied through his teeth to the bank and they know it. That even they do not want his tax records revealed as it may cause a lot of inforced resignations at the bank on both sides of the Atlantic and put the bank in serious trouble with the German & US regulators.

Note maturity date for the loans and the "slight predicament" the bank would be in if a POTUS defaulted, and that they're floating rate loans, and the "coincidence" that the POTUS had been constantly complaining about interest rates being raised too fast.  Ironic that the very thing (C-19 pandemic lockdowns / economic shock) that did get rates down will be destroying his businesses.

Yea that is a similar article I had read last year or maybe early this year. Anyway Trump is in deep financial manure and so is Deutsche Bank.
