With Less than 100 Days Until the Election, Trump and the GOP Are Desperate

Late Night with Seth Meyers

Seth takes a closer look at the morally and intellectually bankrupt Republican party squabbling over cutting unemployment benefits, sending secret police into American cities and whining about cartoons.

I don't think Joe is the best candidate, but at least he has a clue. Like I said, I would have loved to have seen Bernie win the nomination, but I think some of his ideas may not have been entirely palatable for a number of Americans.

Hilarious.

MikeB4: Age like gender or race is NOT a disqualification for the job.

Yes it is. Was talking to a US friend over dinner today and the topic of politics came up. He mentioned that members of his family wanted to vote for Hillary in 2016 but didn't because it just didn't feel right voting for a woman as president. There was nothing specific that they disliked about her, but it just didn't feel right endorsing a woman as president because the president is a man, not a woman.

He went on to say that the US schooling system, from a very early age, indoctrinates you into the fact that the president is a man, not a woman. Even outside the US, for most people president is synonymous with man. Create a mental image of "President" for a moment. Is it a man, and specifically an old white guy? Short of a few characters in science fiction series, the president is a man, not a woman.

You can see this in the 2008 Democratic primaries, people were more willing to endorse a native-born Kenyan than a woman. So yes, being the wrong gender will definitely disqualify you from the job.

Yup. Trump got into power because he was running against a woman. We had that discussion very early on in this thread. Woman = lost the Presidency. Not much else mattered.

And this time round ... age. Don't discount Trump he's got every chance to get another 4 years. Interesting next 100 days ...

As always, Trump has no grace, no style

At least he can't be accused to insincere pandering to the black vote

I'd bet it's his petty revenge for it was the "Black Lives Matter" mural painted outside his Trump Tower New York building.

Trump's basically given up off all black voters. I can't believe "Black Republicans" is still a thing.

I really don't enjoy engaging with you on this forum, but it's >= 35, not less than.

Like the electoral college, another stupid idea in the Constitution.

Getting rid of Trump also gets rid of evil fascists like Miller, brain-dead nepotistic "non-appointments" like Jared/Ivanka, a VP who's an anti-science religious zealot.  There's a long list of truly awful human beings enabling Trump.

The Washington Post - Attorney General Barr had a really contentious hearing

today

Attorney General William P. Barr testified Tuesday for the first time in his tenure in front of a critical congressional audience - a House Judiciary Committee with a Democratic majority - as the Justice Department faces questions from critics who say it is helping President Trump politically in ways ranging from policing and protests to intervening in criminal investigations of Trump allies. ...

Here are five takeaways from Barr’s testimony.  (headings only)

1. He is all in as a partisan player

2. Under increased scrutiny, Barr is not backing down from sending federal agents into cities

3. Barr doesn’t think police have a racism problem

4. Barr continued to cast doubt about voting by mail

5. Barr hesitates to say a president shouldn’t accept foreign help to get elected
