benokobi: NY Times have gone from a 90% chance of Clinton victory yesterday. Now Trump win sits at 77%.

This is absolutely ridiculous.

Not unexpected though. I feel the media has downplayed his chances significantly.

At 85% now..

What was that John Key quote about trump again?

Does it have something along the lines of stupid fool?

Market futures are continuing to tank.  There's nothing to celebrate folks.  It's a dark day of historic proportions.

The movie, 'Back to the future 2' comes to mind. Also the simpsons predicted that Trump was president years ago.

Trump has 87% according to NY times, and it is now 'likely'. So it looks like it is heading that way.

Not sure what's going to pan out.  Many world leaders (including ours) have made some comments about the prospect of a Trump presidency, and they're things which can't be unsaid.  If Trump lives up to his promise to impose sanctions on China, pull out of NAFTA, build "the wall" etc, then he's going to have few friends in the world, and a very poor position from which to commence negotiations in order to get what he wants.

I don't think many will do that until it is a lot closer to the final count, as often they can make a mistake.

But it looks like the republicans will in senate, so even if Clinton does win, will she be a lame duck president?

When you look at the numbers, Trump needs 100 to win. Clinton needs 150 to win. We are past halfway. Suddenly the second half of votes all Hp to Clinton? No. Americans have spoken. They don't want status quo. They chose Trump.

It is a bit misleading when looking at a map, as some of those states have large amounts of land, but small populations. You get the same thing in NZ with the electoral map. So it will be a lot closer than the map shows.

The experts have been wrong at nearly every turn up to this point.

I am beginning to think Trump with a reasonable lead. I wonder if he will still claim the election is rigged

Trumps lead is increasing in Wisconsin and Michigan. I think Clinton would need a miracle for this to turn around.

Yes, he'll just claim that he is so great that even a rigged system can't beat him.

It doesn't really work like that. If you were using that logic, Clinton would be projected to win initially as she at one stage had more states.

Although Clinton looks to have the popular vote at the moment, which I presume more people voted for her, but the way FPP works, those votes mean nothing, if the other person wins. CBS still says it is a toss up who will win. But after the Gore Bush election, they probably don't want to say .

Just for comparision, go back and look at the results for 2012 when Obama won.

http://www.politico.com/2012-election/results/map/#/President/2012/

The colours there look pretty much the same (so far) as the ones on the current results map at http://www.politico.com/2016-election/results/map/president

Ohio is the only blue one there that has turned red.  The rest are still either pending or no results.  You can probably expect the Western States to stay democrat.

No, I don't know enough to call this one way or another.

Just saying that just because is a mass of red on the map so far isn't enough proof

Clinton will get California, which 55 electoral votes. This will bring the totals a lot closer, but it won't be enough.
