KAYLEIGH MCENANY SAYS NOBODY HAS WORKED HARDER THAN TRUMP TO PROTECT AMERICANS FROM FACTS

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—In a full-on defense of Donald J. Trump’s coronavirus response, the White House press secretary, Kayleigh McEnany, said on Thursday that President Trump has worked harder than anyone else in history to protect the American people from facts.

“The President was informed about the coronavirus as early as February,” she told reporters. “If he had not taken bold and swift action, those facts could have spread like wildfire.”

She drew a sharp contrast between the United States and countries such as South Korea and New Zealand, “where facts have spread out of control.”

“It all comes down to leadership,” she said.

McEnany added that Trump’s war on facts was “far from over,” calling it a “daily struggle.”

“This President has worked tirelessly, every day, to prevent facts from being transmitted to the American people, and on Election Day the American people will repay him for that,” she said.

nathan:

Meanwhile I'm part of the largest US voting bloc

Actually, the largest bloc is the one that voted. Yours is the one that thinks if they sit in the middle of the floor and hold their breath long enough, someone will care.

nathan: it must be even more despair, when you can't vote.

A large number of the US electorate cannot vote for various reasons. It's a good point.

Yet people keep engaging with him. If you wrestle with a pig, you just get muddy. And the pig enjoys it.

I don't mind him posting here, you don't have to read his stuff. I skip a lot of it but read some of it for the amusement value, and also occasionally reply for the amusement value. And that's the correct way to deal with it, don't get upset or argue, just treat it as a break from any serious discussion.

Kanye West? Spare me, he's a joke. He won't even be on the ballot in even half the states.

As much as he has his fans, I don't think this is another Ross Perot moment.

Borowitz is just so on target each time:

Trump Agrees to Be Interviewed for New Book by Joe Biden

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—In a decision that surprised many political insiders, Donald J. Trump has agreed to be interviewed for a new book by Joe Biden.

[...]

“This is a fantastic opportunity for me, quite frankly,” Trump said. “It’s going to be a major book, and I think Joe is going to make me look really good in it.”

Asked about the logistics of the interview, Trump said, “Joe told me to call him up late at night and just start rambling. This is the kind of thing I’m really, really good at, because I’m very smart.”

Biden’s book, titled “Don’t Vote for Donald Trump,” is set to go on sale a week before the election.

As a separate comment, not directed at anyone in particular, I know Borowitz is really good but copying across his work wholesale is a bit impolite. If you're going to reference it, include short extracts and provide a link back to the full thing.

I am starting to find him more amusing than annoying. His new avatar is a big improvement. The pig argument still holds, though.

TRUMP AGREES TO BE INTERVIEWED BY JOE BIDEN FOR NEW BOOK

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—In a decision that surprised many political insiders, Donald J. Trump has agreed to be interviewed for a new book by Joe Biden.

According to Biden, the book will be “an in-depth examination of the Trump Presidency, with special emphasis on his handling of the coronavirus pandemic and his comments about the military.”

Trump said that, when Biden approached him about the book project, “I moved on it very strongly.”

“This is a fantastic opportunity for me, quite frankly,” Trump said. “It’s going to be a major book, and I think Joe will make me look really good.”

Asked about the logistics of the interview, Trump said, “Joe told me to call him up late at night and just start rambling. This is the kind of thing I’m really, really good at, so my ramblings are always gems.

Biden’s book, titled “Don’t Vote for Donald Trump,” is set to go on sale a week before the election.

NewsWeek: Republican Lindsey Graham slams Khashoggi verdict as Woodward reveals Trump boast he saved Saudi Arabian Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman

South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham has condemned Saudi Arabia for the apparent whitewash trial over the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi in 2018, verdicts for which were announced this week.

A Saudi court jailed eight people, none of whom were named, for between seven and 20 years for the murder. Human rights organizations have criticized the court for failing to punish the senior regime officials believed to have masterminded the assassination at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.

Senastor Graham—a critic of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, "MBS", the heir to the throne and widely seen as the man wielding power behind his elderly father King Salman—tweeted Thursday: "I am deeply disappointed about the lack of transparency in the trials of eight unnamed individuals in Saudi Arabia for the murder of Jamal Khashoggi, a permanent resident of the U.S."

...Khashoggi's murder—asphyxiation by a 15-man hit squad that flew into Turkey hours before the killing—appalled the world, though MBS and the Saudi royals have largely escaped consequences.

...MBS has been accused of directly ordering Khashoggi's murder. The Washington Post columnist and U.S. resident was a prominent critic of MBS, and had been living in self-imposed exile despite the crown prince's efforts to lure him home.

Trump has dismissed concerns that MBS may have been directly involved. In interviews with legendary journalist Bob Woodward for his next book Rage, Trump said of MBS: "He says very strongly that he didn't do it."

...The president also bragged that he protected MBS from international outrage in the weeks and months after Khashoggi was killed. "I saved his ass," Trump said in a 2018 interview with Woodward. "I was able to get Congress to leave him alone."

"The Daily 202: Taliban prisoners linked to killing U.S. troops are released ahead of 9/11 anniversary"

One President hunted bin-Laden. The Orange Man is friends with the Taliban.

President Trump warned in characteristically over-the-top terms during a political rally in Michigan on Thursday night that Joe Biden, if elected, would invite “terrorists” into the suburbs by raising the cap on the number of refugees allowed to resettle in the United States.

He made these comments as the Afghan government – under pressure from his administration – reluctantly released high-value Taliban prisoners who were allegedly involved in killing American troops.

That jarring split screen happened on the eve of the 19th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks, which originated in Afghanistan, where the Taliban provided a safe haven for al-Qaeda and its leader Osama bin Laden, the mastermind of the plot that killed nearly 3,000 people.

“We’re getting along very, very well with the Taliban,” Trump said at a news conference earlier Thursday.
