Rikkitic:

I just happened to be watching Susan Rice on Colbert and she was describing Russian troll tactics to disrupt the election. She could have been describing @nathan's posts here. The resemblance is uncanny.

Susan Rice is a liar, who has lied repeatedly in public before.  She is an alleged war criminal.  She abused her power, or engaged in political espionage, by using the national security state apparatus to spy on someone who had just won the presidency.

the Russia conspiracy is perfect.  Despite disproving collusion and the Steele dossier, any criticism or questioning of Joe's voting record or words from his mouth, or how he squares away the bold face lies on Iraq war, China PNTR, NAFTA votes etc, and you need not answer the question, just say the concerned voter with a memory, asking those questions is a Russia troll bot.

C'mon man, stop the malarkey.

This Russian troll isn't stopping Biden reaching out to the 100M non-voters or independents and giving them a reason to vote.  I'm not stopping him talk about unions, living wages, healthcare, drug prices.  That's his donors stopping him do that.

The Washington Post - 7 ways Trump and his cabal are using government to corrupt the election

today

headings only:

  1. Rushing coronavirus treatments.
  2. Interfering in public health messaging.
  3. Twisting intelligence to support campaign agitprop.
  4. Helping cast doubt on Russian electoral sabotage.
  5. Limiting disclosure of knowledge of Russian sabotage.
  6. Discrediting vote-by-mail.
  7. Validating fake narratives about Hunter Biden.

The bottom line: Trump isn’t trying to persuade a majority of U.S. voters to support him.

Instead, he’s trying to get within what you might call cheating distance of pulling another electoral college inside straight even while losing the popular vote, just like last time. ...

Host: "Work together with that science."

Trump: "It will start getting cooler. You just watch."

Host: "I don't think science agrees."

Trump: "I don't think science knows actually."

Meanwhile, chuckles in the background when Trump opens his mouth.

The Washington Post - Coronavirus Updates

today

President Trump held an indoor campaign rally in Nevada on Sunday night, even though the state still has a ban on gatherings of more than 50 people.

Photos and videos of the rally showed maskless Trump supporters standing shoulder-to-shoulder, drawing rebukes from his political opponents. ...

Trump defended the rally in an interview with the Las Vegas Review-Journal by saying that he is “very far away” from the crowd while he’s onstage, “and so I’m not at all concerned.” ...

Me, me, me ...

Ok, let's leave the personal comments behind us and focus on the issues and the Trump person instead. This is not a discussion about Bidden or the American political system.

New York Times: Trump Health Aide Pushes Bizarre Conspiracies and Warns of Armed Revolt

Michael R. Caputo told a Facebook audience without evidence that left-wing hit squads were being trained for insurrection and accused C.D.C. scientists of “sedition.”

The top communications official at the powerful cabinet department in charge of combating the coronavirus made outlandish and false accusations on Sunday that career government scientists were engaging in “sedition” in their handling of the pandemic and that left-wing hit squads were preparing for armed insurrection after the election.

Michael R. Caputo, the assistant secretary of public affairs at the Department of Health and Human Services, accused the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention of harboring a “resistance unit” determined to undermine President Trump, even if that opposition bolsters the Covid-19 death toll.

Mr. Caputo, who has faced intense criticism for leading efforts to warp C.D.C. weekly bulletins to fit Mr. Trump’s pandemic narrative, suggested that he personally could be in danger from opponents of the administration. “If you carry guns, buy ammunition, ladies and gentlemen, because it’s going to be hard to get,” he urged his followers.

..To a certain extent, Mr. Caputo’s comments in a video he hosted live on his personal Facebook page were simply an amplified version of remarks that the president himself has made. Both men have singled out government scientists and health officials as disloyal, suggested that the election will not be fairly decided, and insinuated that left-wing groups are secretly plotting to incite violence across the United States.

But Mr. Caputo’s attacks were more direct, and they came from one of the officials most responsible for shaping communications around the coronavirus.

C.D.C. scientists “haven’t gotten out of their sweatpants except for meetings at coffee shops” to plot “how they’re going to attack Donald Trump next,” Mr. Caputo said. “There are scientists who work for this government who do not want America to get well, not until after Joe Biden is president.”

A longtime Trump loyalist with no background in health care, Mr. Caputo, 58, was appointed by the White House to his post in April, at a time when the president’s aides suspected the health secretary, Alex M. Azar II, of protecting his public image instead of Mr. Trump’s. Mr. Caputo coordinates the messaging of an 80,000-employee department that is at the center of the pandemic response, overseeing the Food and Drug Administration, the C.D.C. and the National Institutes of Health.

“Mr. Caputo is a critical, integral part of the president’s coronavirus response, leading on public messaging as Americans need public health information to defeat the Covid-19 pandemic,” the Department of Health and Human Services said in a statement.

Mr. Caputo’s Facebook comments were another sign of the administration’s deep antipathy and suspicion for its own scientific experts across the bureaucracy and the growing political pressure on those experts to toe a political line favorable to Mr. Trump.

Imagine being in NZ in 2020, still with FPP, oscillating backwards and forwards between National and Labour

i normally don't read nathan's posts but the above caught my eye. If you are going to disparage New Zealand politics and our voting system please get your facts straight - oh that's right trolls don't fact check.

NZ hasn't had FPP (First Past the Post) since 1994 when we formerly adopted the MMP (member proportional representation) with the first election using this system being held in 1996. At the cessation of parliament this year we had 5 parties representative in parliament.

How many diverse elected political parties are in the US Congress ? Anyway our elected members are not as controlled by lobbyists as yours are and we are far more transparent.

its not disparaging to be jealous of your MMP.  You misunderstand "imagine"

There are 0 third party elected representatives or parties here.  We have a hegemony of ideas controlled by a duopoly.  Until we get a multi-party electoral system, this democratic republic is only getting more divided.

"Trump election ad uses stock military image 'featuring Russian fighter jets'"

How can people be so incompetent? Oh, wait... Trump.

A fundraising ad for US president Donald Trump’s re-election campaign reportedly used a stock photo featuring Russian fighter jets and weapons as part of a call for viewers to “support our troops”.

The ad, which has since been removed, was made by the Trump Make America Great Again Committee, which is run by the Republican National Committee (RNC) and the Trump campaign. The stock image shows five soldiers in silhouette against a sunset as the three planes fly overhead.

Pierre Sprey, who helped design US Air Force planes, told Politico the jet featured in the ad is “definitely a MiG-29”, as did the director of the Centre for Analysis of Strategies and Technologies in Moscow, Ruslan Pukhov.

There is a libertarian in the US federal House of Representatives, plus a number of third-party legislators at the state level.

Still overall insignificant third party candidates.

I wonder what the American government would look like if they had MMP, it would certainly be very interesting.
Unfortunately, most Americans I know (and I know a lot) are very resistant to change, so it will probably never happen.

It was my intention to keep the most revolting image of Donald Trump that I could find as my avatar until the day he was frog-marched from office. However, the change forced by Geekzone has caused me to revise that. I am so sick to death of seeing that ugly visage that I cannot wait until November and have brought forward my plan to replace it with my one-eyed kitten, which will henceforth be my much more pleasant and incomparably sweeter Geekzone face.
