The New York Times - Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg Dies at 87

breaking

WASHINGTON - Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg died on Friday of “complications of metastatic pancreas cancer,” the Supreme Court announced.

Our nation has lost a jurist of historic stature,” Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. said in a statement. “We at the Supreme Court have lost a cherished colleague. Today we mourn, but with confidence that future generations will remember Ruth Bader Ginsburg as we knew her - a tireless and resolute champion of justice.”

The development will give President Trump the opportunity to name her replacement, and Senate Republicans have promised to try to fill the vacancy even in the waning days of his first term.

The confirmation battle, in the midst of a pandemic and a presidential election, is sure to be titanic. ...

So what, now Trump tries to create on the US election's credibility so he can challenge the result? That's the only thing he's actually any good at.

Watch the GOP hypocrisy on this one.

They blocked an Obama appointment 9 months before the 2016 election:

In February 2016, days after the conservative Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia died, Republicans made an unprecedented declaration: The Senate would not hear or confirm any nominee to fill the unexpected vacancy until the country had elected a new president in November.

Don't even try nominating anyone, McConnell told Obama, the Constitution requires "the advice and consent of the Senate."

"We intend to exercise the constitutional power granted the Senate under Article II, Section 2 to ensure the American people are not deprived of the opportunity to engage in a full and robust debate over the type of jurist they wish to decide some of the most critical issues of our time," Republican members of the Senate Judiciary Committee wrote in a letter, claiming the move was "born of a necessity to protect the will of the American people."

but also the same, same hypocrisy from the Dems.  Probably every single senator is going to argue the complete opposite position today, from what they said just back in 2016.

Vandals burn down wooden Melania Trump tribute statue in Slovenia. Benefactors replace it with bronze cast:

I like this one. Reminds me of Picasso.

Well they should be punished by the electorate if they do, and they should understand that's the consequence.

Democracy dies in darkness.  Do people actually vote on principles - or is it like being a fan of a sport team?

Two serious mistakes by Dems. RBG should have probably resigned / retired during Obama's reign, and Obama should have never used the "nuclear option".

Welcome to Gilead.  Too bad if you're not a wealthy white "christian" man, but if you don't get used to it, you'll be punished.

Trump loves metaphors - across his nomination acceptance speech, his victory speech and his inaugural address, Trump used nearly 350 metaphors, 85% of the speeches.

Trump loves rambling, incoherent gibberish. His apologists say he's been misinterpreted (leveraging the incoherence of what he's saying), his supporters, exhibiting fine herd mentality, praise him for his subtle use of language, and the entire rest of the world thinks he's nuts.

Ginsburg, who once called then-presidential candidate Trump a “faker” and more recently described this period of American history as “an aberration,” dictated the following statement days before her death: “My most fervent wish is that I will not be replaced until a new president is installed.”

The Washington Post - 19 aides, allies and even family members who have spoken against Trump

today

  • Rex Tillerson - Secretary of state
  • John Kelly - White House chief of staff
  • Gary Cohn - White House economic adviser
  • Mary Trump - Trump’s niece
