freitasm:  ‘This is insanity’: Doctors aghast at Trump’s ‘surprise’ SUV tour

EDIT

The drive-past came shortly after Trump released a video saying he had a "surprise" for people outside the facility and that he had "learned a lot about Covid".

"I learned it by really going to school, this is the real school, this isn't the lets read the book school. And I get it, and I understand it, and it's a very interesting thing and I'm going to be letting you know about it," he said in the video.

The Washington Post - Trump claims that he had no choice but to risk his own health. Americans disagree.

today

Former New York mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani called his old friends at the New York Post to pass along a message from his most prominent legal client, President Trump.

I am the president of the United States. I can’t lock myself in a room,” Trump told the world through his lawyer Saturday. “I had to confront [the virus] so the American people stopped being afraid of it so we could deal with it responsibly.” ...

The idea that the proper way to confront the pandemic is for the president to expose himself to it is like saying that Franklin D. Roosevelt should have taken on Adolf Hitler by airdropping into Dresden.

FDR managed to fight World War II while not drastically increasing his chances of being shot by a Nazi.

More than 7 in 10 Americans hold a similar position. ...

Someone on Twitter said that Trump's drive-past was performed by a body double. You can't tell because he was wearing a mask. OMG! A mask! This proves it is a conspiracy!

There is no question CNN has a leftward bias and an extreme dislike of Trump. I am not questioning that and they are not the only news source I follow.

Agree

On frequent occasions, they include an opponent journo or commentator, they hear these opposing views, and its an adult and responsible discussion. Ive seen this a number of times.

Yes they are  biased, but it's not blatant. Fox is not a news channel. I find CNN's coverage of world events, exceptional, its all there in as much detail as you would want. Pick any disaster, not all of life is politics. But they seem pretty tame compared to Fox Spews Inc. :-)

Washington Post: Only the Trump team could spin this into even riskier messaging about the virus

There is never a silver lining to somebody else’s illness, but you might have thought that President Trump’s infection at least could have offered a learning moment for his supporters.

If so, you would have underestimated the cynicism and amorality of the Trump campaign.

So far, although it wouldn’t have seemed possible, the Trump team is using this occasion to peddle even more dangerous misinformation and advice than before.

...His irresponsibility in the past days, as in the past weeks and months, is beyond dispute.

On Sept. 26, at the White House event introducing Trump’s Supreme Court nominee, scores of guests sat cheek by jowl and, mostly, maskless. Some of them actually took off their masks when they went inside for a reception, turning public health common sense on its head.

On Tuesday, at the debate in Cleveland, Trump’s entourage made a great show of flouting Cleveland Clinic rules, going so far as to rebuff a clinic staffer who offered them face coverings. At that same debate, Trump mocked Democratic nominee Joe Biden for wearing a mask as faithfully as he does.

And then, even after learning that he had been exposed to the illness, Trump traveled to a fundraiser in New Jersey where he met, maskless as usual, with supporters at close range.

Republicans quoted at length:Never admit a mistake and, against all evidence, make Biden seem scary.

...But no one is arguing that Trump should cease running the country (well, not until Jan. 20, at least). Trump did not get sick because public health measures are so hard; he did not get sick despite “the most severe of lockdowns”; he got sick because he arrogantly refused even the simplest of precautions. The virus is formidable, not omnipotent.

The politics underlying this dishonesty aren’t complicated. The Trump administration has overseen one of the world’s least successful responses to the novel coronavirus. More people have died here than in any other country. Infection rates remain stubbornly high. This is bad for our health — and for our economy.

Admit even one fault — yes, the first family should have worn masks at the debate — and you risk exposing the whole, great failure...

...Wearing a mask should not be a political statement. It can save lives. We can hope that most Trump supporters will consider those facts, not the latest spin. We can hope they connect the dots of White House carelessness and White House illness and resolve to protect themselves and their loved ones.

That would provide, after all, a silver lining of sorts.

The New York Times - Trump’s Treatment Suggests Severe Covid-19, Medical Experts Say

today

Many of the measures cited by his doctors are reserved for patients severely affected by the coronavirus. [Regeneron’s monoclonal antibody therapy, Remdesivir, dexamethasone, supplemental oxygen]

Is [Trump] sicker than we’re hearing, or are they being overly aggressive because he is the president, in a way that could be potentially harmful? ...

Some experts raised an additional possibility: that the president is directing his own care, and demanding intense treatment despite risks he may not fully understand.

The pattern even has a name: V.I.P. syndrome, which describes prominent figures who receive poor medical care because doctors are too zealous in treating them - or defer too readily to their instructions. ...

EDIT  Trump is a self-important stable genius, so the V.I.P. syndrome diagnosis sounds entirely plausible to me.   😐

Yes, really  🙃

I'd say wait and see if he shows up at WH.

It may just be prophylactic measures, he is the POTUS after all. It doesn't look like he's got anything resembling severe Covid. He was in a car driving around town. I could be wrong and the administration might be able to hide it super well, but hey that will be some CSI type faking!

Poll results here

Joe Biden's lead has nearly doubled since Tuesday's debate, with voters saying that he has the better temperament to be president.

I usually don't bother replying to you but I feel obligated to point out here that you are full of crap. Most of what you spout is just unsubstantiated opinion, and some of it is just pure nonsense, like this gem:

You might not like my opinions, but they are not unsubstantiated.  They're based on being a failed political science major and actually living here in Gods Own 'Murica

'Pro-birth has a purpose

US society demands fresh uneducated meat from flyover states, to feed into the forever perpetual endless wars that the corporate defense businesses shareholders demand'

anyone can say I'm wrong, that my opinions are nonsense.  That's the easy part.

But do you have a better theory for actually why Republicans are pro-life?  (along with needing to incarcerate Americans for the for-profit prison industrial complex that Biden architected)

Dunno how accurate this poll is, but...

(note it is only one poll, and probably biased towards Trump).

(along with needing to incarcerate Americans for the for-profit prison industrial complex that Biden architected)

As US state/federal owned prisons were already *by design* dehumanising violent sh*t-hole places designed to or accepted by the public as means to satiate the feelings for bloodlust and vengeance. Full of corruption, in a post Reagan environment where the Republicans (and Thatcher in the UK - and elsewhere globally) had made it "common knowledge" that private enterprise could run utilities like prisons at lower cost - and with better welfare standards for inmates.

It clearly turned to sh*t, and took a decade to work out that "prisons for profit" was a very bad idea, as there's an inescapable "moral hazard" when an industry prone to heavy lobbying, public disinformation campaigns etc, in a capitalist economy that demands "growth" from all "businesses" - can only increase growth by having more prisoners to lock up.  So they got to work. And there you are, with 20% of the world's incarcerated people but only 4% of the world population, huge racial divides, horrific recidivism rates.  Everything is borked.

Clinton was indeed involved (with Biden).  A couple of decades later, I know the Clintons (Hillary and Bill) realise it was a serious mistake.  I don't know Biden's position, but I'd be very surprised if his views haven't also reversed.
