As an old man with two adult daughters, this recent example of Trump misogyny struck me as unusually appalling ...

The New York Times - Opinion - Trump Has a Women Problem. These Senators Aren’t Helping.

today

To be in today’s Republican Party requires a particularly gross form of self-abasement.

Even with everything we know about President Trump’s deep and abiding disrespect for women, it was disconcerting to see him treat a U.S. senator - from his own party, no less - like a dog.

At a rally in Arizona on Wednesday, Mr. Trump made clear his impatience with sharing the spotlight, no matter how briefly, with Martha McSally.

Martha, just come up fast. Fast. Fast,” he called from the stage, rotating his hand for emphasis.

Come on. Quick. You got one minute! One minute, Martha! They don’t want to hear this, Martha. Come on. Let’s go. Quick, quick, quick. Come on. Let’s go.”

Perhaps more disheartening than the president’s imperious call was the senator’s scurrying to his side.

I’m coming!” she cried, grinning brightly and giving him a jolly elbow bump. “Thank you, President Trump!”

Thank you? For what, exactly? For humiliating her in front of her constituents?

Or maybe for reminding women everywhere that to be in today’s Republican Party requires a particularly gross form of self-abasement: choking down an endless stream of disrespect, vulgarity and outright misogyny to prove that you can hang with the Big Boys in all their retrograde, machismo-soaked Trumpiness?

No wonder the Republican Party is facing a gender gap the size of the Mariana Trench. ...

Trump sickens me.  😠

quickymart:

Are there really that many white supremacists in America? I know quite a few Americans and have never met one, or met anyone who has anything to do with them.

Think about this for a moment and you'll see why the same applies to most if not everyone else on here.

Another point is that it's not just white supremacists but anyone for which he hits the right hot-button issues. For example evangelicals ignore the fact that he's a serial adulterer because he opposes abortion, white supremacists ignore... well OK, he's pretty much a perfect match for them, but in general people ignore the bits the don't like just to focus on the one hot-button issue that he provides for them. Which makes it much easier for him than for Biden, who has to provide a coherent policy across a range of issues to appeal to a supporter.

That's all very true. One thing I've noticed about Trump supporters is they just ignore or zone out anything negative about him, and only take the parts they want to hear and spin it into something positive.

Everything else [negative stories about Trump, when they hear them]? "Fake news".

Michael Moore: Why I Still Think Trump Could Win  (youtube, 15 minutes)

Oct 29, 2020

Filmmaker and activist Michael Moore says don't believe the current polls showing Joe Biden with a runaway victory against incumbent President Donald Trump.

"Listen, don't believe these polls, first of all," Moore said.

"And second of all, the Trump vote is always being undercounted. Pollsters when they actually call a real Trump voter, the Trump voter is very suspicious of the deep state calling them and asking them who they're voting for. It's all fake news to them, remember." ...

"[Trump] thinks he is going to win and he is an evil genius. And he's smarter than all of us. And I know people hate to hear that and I'm sorry. To win the White House by losing the election, that's genius."

I liked Michael Moore's early docos but I'm sorry he's wrong big time. Chump is not a genius of any sort. And he's dumber than all of us (apart from his supporters) not smarter.

Context is everything.

You forgot to mention that he is a Republican campaign adviser, and a former campaign adviser to Sen. Mitch McConnell.   😶

What Chump has done, by accident and lack of expertise in the subject rather than by design, is to remove all suggestion of politics from the presidential election.

You never hear him utter the word Republican and he uses the term Democrat as a group noun for his adversaries and then only as a derogatory term. He offers not even vague promises of policies and instead focuses on catch phrases to denigrate the opposition personally such as 'Sleepy Joe' or 'Lying Hilary'.

He's reduced the election to some sort of high school popularity contest because that is the level he understands and, luckily for him, is what his core supporters understand. Anything more complicated and they would be turned off.

From the supporters point of view he represents a sort of 'Truman Show' type of existence where the sun always shines, there is a strict class society and no problem is above insignificant.

On the other hand according to him any opposition, Biden or whoever it might be, is going to create some sort post-apocalyptic society as imagined by Hollywood or engineered by the Khmer Rouge (he won't mention them though as neither he nor his supporters will ever have heard of them).

The whole situation is bizarre and, along with other aspects of life there (eg the judicial system, health system) simply confirms to me that the USA is finished as a world power. Not tomorrow, not next year of maybe 10 years from now, but the fall is inevitable. Fifty years time think Venezuela or Libya.

Assuming Joe wins, he's going to inherit one hell of a mess to clean up.

If Biden wins:

Being the malicious little man that he is, Trump will probably deliberately do as much damage as possible during the "lame duck" period from November to January.  😠

Reminds me of when Labour in the UK lost power to the Tories after the Blair years. The exiting Chancellor apparently left a short note on his desk to the new guy that just read "There's no money left".

At least one Idaho hospital is at capacity. Even so, politicians see this as a vote winner:

Defending freedom is all very well I just wish they would add some hand hygiene and mask wearing messages at the same time.

Out going Presidents also traditionally leave a note to the incoming president on the Resolute Desk. I wonder what DJT's note will say to President Joe Biden❓

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.
