I am not saying he IS the saviour, but I can tell you that he isn't part of the "political" establishment the way Clinton, Bush, Obama are. I do believe he wants to help the US be better, whether he can, different story.

Being a Billionaire, investor or even a sleaze doesn't automatically proclude you from having ideas that may help.

Again, not saying he is the answer, but some of his ideas have some merit. Even some of his whacky ones have SOME basis of merit. For example, he doesn't JUST want a wall, he wants a wall, and faster and more efficient processing of people wanting to immigrate from Mexico.

Time will tell, I suspect he never expected to get this far, and it wouldn't surprise me to see him have a "health" event that causes him to need to step down, in which case his VP (A career politician) would take over.

But that's the thing. He actually didn't say anything. He just kept repeating "Only I can fix it" but when asked for plans, ideas he would regurgitate "I will destroy ISIS"...

60 million people voted for Trump - they can't all have been "in the rust belt and other poor areas".

Like freitasm, I find Trump's popularity completely incomprehensible ...

You also would have had a lot of them that would have voted for republican anyway, no matter who the leader was. A lot of those areas would never vote democrat. His problem is that a lot of his party don't seem to like him anyway. So I wonder if he is going to struggle with his own party and VP. You don't get the impression during his speech after he had won, that they are great friends. He thanked him right at the end, almost as an after thought. I looks like it is going to be very much a family affair as much as possible by the looks of it, which is fine if that is the way he wants to do it.

That said, I believe more actual people actually voted for Hillary anyway. It is just the way the US is divided up, which meant he won more states. So based on that, you could argue that based on the people vote, people wanted Hillary. To me, it does seem odd though, that in a democracy, even though she got more people voting for her, she didn't get in. But that is the system they work with over there.

I don't agree with that. He had a "first 100 days in office" plan. He may not have specifics (in some instances), but he does have goals. Some of those (like with Obama and Gitmo) won't be possible because he will soon have information about the country he has never had before. Clinton was pretty vague on her plans too.

I suspect a lot of his bravado is going to disappear as both the realization of what's required to be President, and because he is about to have the snot scared out of him by daily security briefings that only the top 6 security people in the US get.

I recall but can't find video, of footage of Obama after his first such security briefing and how worried and ashen he looked. I also recall hearing GWB vomited after or during his. Not sure where I heard that, but I can believe it.

A clash between pro/anti Trump supporters in Auckland?

There may be a time when (peaceful) protesting does become appropriate - if the US ends up committing atrocities - hopefully not. "Rent a mob" protests now would be counter-productive to any future efforts to "send a message" - not that I'd expect the US to take any particular notice anyway.

These look like Kiwi's and to be honest it's freaking disgraceful.

Trump hasn't DONE anything yet except make a few offensive comments and promise some stuff. We have NO right to protest at this point, and if it was a Kiwi burning a US flag, well I am honestly lost for words.

I can't think of one thing that gives us the right to burn another countries flag over an election result.
