BBC News -  US election 2020: Fact-checking Trump team's main fraud claims

today

Some of these issues were highlighted at a press conference on Thursday led by the president's lawyer, Rudy Giuliani.

We've looked at the main allegations of fraud and irregularities.  [headings only]

Claim 1: Unexplained surges in Democrat votes

Claim 2: Access blocked to the counts

Claim 3: Votes flipped from Trump to Biden

Claim 4: The voting machines are owned by Democrats

Claim 5: Thousands of dead people voted

Worth reading.  Long story short - all of these claims are untrue.

The New York Times - Opinion - Republicans Supporting Trump, Remember: Lies Have a Long Half-Life

today

By The Editorial Board

The editorial board is a group of opinion journalists whose views are informed by expertise, research, debate and certain longstanding values. It is separate from the newsroom.

“I WON THE ELECTION!” President Trump lied on Twitter on Sunday - as he has done over and over again since Joe Biden was declared the winner this month.

Voters gave Mr. Biden the highest margin of victory in a two-person race against a sitting president since Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1932.

He is on track to win 306 electoral votes and to win the popular vote by around seven million ballots. ...

Lies have a long half-life, and Mr. Trump’s misinformation campaign will undermine the democratic legitimacy of the Biden administration.

About half of all Republicans surveyed by a new Reuters/Ipsos poll said they believed that Mr. Trump had rightfully won the election. ...

If you can’t see the con, the saying goes, you’re the mark: In this case, those who donate to Mr. Trump’s legal effort to overturn the election only to have the money go to paying off his outstanding debts, while Mr. Trump’s lawsuits are either dropped or laughed out of court. ...

Check out the US and NZ debt.

I checked out the tables. Bucking a world-wide trend of leaving New Zealand off world maps, New Zealand is listed, but not Australia; oddly Australia is on the chart.

$69 Trillion of World Debt in One Infographic

United States --- Debt to GDP 104%

New Zealand ---30%

Australia --- 11%

The Conversation.com: Americans are renouncing US citizenship in record numbers – but maybe not for the reasons you think

...While many liberal Americans threatened to move abroad after Trump’s election in 2016, rising renunciations are not directly attributable to any particular election result. The trend began in 2013, mid-way through the Obama administration. That year about 3,000 Americans suddenly gave up their passports – three times more than usual.

Nor are people fleeing the U.S. because of the coronavirus. The paperwork for the 5,315 renunciations completed so far this year began long before COVID-19 ravaged the country and made Americans global pariahs.

In fact, most Americans giving up their U.S. passport already live abroad and hold another citizenship. In surveys and testimonials, these people say they’re dropping their U.S. citizenship because American anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism regulations make it too onerous and expensive to keep....

The consequences of noncompliance are severe: forfeiting up to 50% of all undeclared assets held overseas...

...They weren’t avoiding taxes. Of the roughly 9 million U.S. citizens living abroad, most don’t earn enough to owe Uncle Sam a dollar. Only expatriates who make over NZ $156,000 in foreign income are required to pay U.S. taxes....

The New York Times - Transition Live Updates: Georgia Certifies Biden’s Victory, An Early Milestone Toward Finalizing Election Results

breaking

The results were certified hours after a premature announcement that the process was complete.

"I live by the motto that numbers don’t lie," said the [Republican] secretary of state, Brad Raffensperger, Georgia’s top election official  ... "I believe that the numbers that we have presented today are correct." ...

The recount found that Mr. Biden beat Mr. Trump by more than 12,000 votes.

NY State prosecutors are now looking at Ivanka's tax.

the Times reported that a 2017 disclosure filed by Ivanka Trump showed that she reported $747,622 in consulting fees–a figure that “exactly matched consulting fees claimed as tax deductions by the Trump Organization for hotel projects in Hawaii and Vancouver, British Columbia.”

This could be a problem, as Ms. Trump was an executive officer both of the company making the payment and the company doing the consulting. When a key person is on both sides of such a transaction, tax deductions could be illegal if the payments were inflated.

Is she worth paying millions to for hotel project consulting? I thought her specialty area was Chinese made handbags and gladrags.

What a family, crooks, liars, cheats, fascists.  And yet 70,000,000 voted for them.  Lock them up.

BBC News - Attention-loving Trump disappears in final days of term

today

Why has the president been so quiet? He loves the spotlight. Yet this month he has been holed up for 14 days in the White House.

Here is how he has been spending the final weeks of his term in office:

DS248:

Donald Jnr tests positive

Giuliani's son has tested positive too.

That "hair dye error" thing was kind of gross:

Apart from looking horrible, he doesn't look well.  Sweaty, blowing his nose then using the same hanky to wipe sweat and snot all over his face:

Warning - don't view if you're eating or upset by disgusting personal hygiene.

He's not even going to Mar-a-Lago for Thanksgiving as usual this year - staying in the WH.

If he wasn't such a threat, that would be pure comedy.  Must be scared that if he leaves for a few days, he'll get back to find the keys have changed and his belongings have been dumped on the lawn.  His lease expires on 20th Jan at noon.  That's going to be very entertaining if he's still there.

The electoral college is yet to convene. Electoral college delegates have not yet voted. There were a few faithless electors in 2016 - delegates who did not vote as the state returning them expected - when Trump was just a candidate.

Trump is now in the presidential position with the ability to dispense favors and threats and a good chance for a second term in 2024. The scene is set for the number of faithless electors to rise in the 2020/2021 college.

He's nailing boards over the windows and stockpiling hamberders and covfefe to last out the siege in late January.
