Batman: Without covid Trump would have won this election.

That's something which can't be known.  Maybe - but Trump's mishandling of Covid has had a galvanising impact on America.  Also, the corporate bailout as a response will have won support.  If your stocks rallied and you made a fortune, then forget about all the dead people and the 7 trillion in debt.  That's all someone else's problem.

Well, there's at least one promise the Trump has kept: America FIRST! America FIRST! America FIRST!.

One of the things that has struck me about this whole business is just how utterly selfish and self-centred Trump's supporters are. Not all Americans are like this, of course, but an alarming number seem to be.

There have been items in the news recently about the lockdowns and other measures in Europe and South Australia, and the willingness of people to comply with the new restrictions. The general attitude seems to be I don't like this, but it is for the good of us all and doing it now prevents something much worse later.

Contrast this to the American response, which is my freedom to not wear a mask is all that matters and go f yourself. What causes such complete and total egotism in people? It must have something to do with their upbringing. Rugged individualism is one thing, but what this kind of response says is I am the only one who matters and if you don't like it my gun is bigger than yours.

Something is seriously wrong with those people and it goes a lot deeper than just not wanting to do what someone else tells them to. Their society is really screwed up and I have to wonder if it even can be healed, Biden or no Biden.

Most of the battleground states were close enough that I 100% believe, if not for Trump’s woeful mishandling (and plain negligence) of the COVID pandemic, he would have won a second term.

Biden is infinitely preferable to Trump, but he is far from the saviour of America. He is centrist Democratic establishment through and through. He’s unlikely to push for the policy changes America needs. A Biden administration will be a return to the old status quo, which after 4 years of Trump is appealing, but the shine will wear off when most Americans realise they’re back where they were 4 years ago (which was the environment to which gave rise to Trump in the first place).

The Democrats need to do things very differently than before. I doubt they will.

"Muh freedumbs!" is a big part of the American psyche for many people. Usually it's nothing more than a very easy way for politicians to get votes, e.g. by harping on about gun control, but can also lead to more toxic things like conspiracy theories in which $insert_political/ethnic_group_of_choice is trying to control/controls the US, and in the worst case leads to resistance to sensible safety measures that would have saved tens if not hundreds of thousands of lives.

This is also why some Asian and African countries have done so well, they got community buy-in to the idea of dealing with Covid - Ghana is a good example of a country that did this and did really well - while in the US it's been the opposite, with predictable results.

I wonder how all those Trump supporters tally up the dead (and steadily growing) numbers to reconcile with their (warped) belief that somehow Trump is doing "a good job" of managing the virus.

They aren't really dead. It is fake news. Or they don't listen to any news.

Trump for 2024? I personally think it would be absolutely hilarious if he didn't even make it to the end of the primaries next time around.

TLD: There is perhaps some cruel justice in that Trump supporters appear to be suffering the most from the virus, because they ignore social distancing, think wearing a mask impedes their Constitutional rights, and that it is all a conspiracy led by Bill Gates designed to inject nanobots into their bloodstream that will compel them to revoke Trump and believe in Biden. If only it were that easy to turn a moron into an intelligent person.

Imo not so simple. The lack of sensible information and policy from the top and even the president working against his own advisors means many cities are being hit way harder than they should be. As with most things in America - being poor, black and urban means the chances of death from covid are much higher. This is not a demographic known as Trump supporters.

Former executive director of Michigan Republican party says he's ashamed of the party's attempts to invalidate all votes from 80% Black American Detroit. More or less calls it as just racist with no other possible explanation.

This will almost certainly fail but still has some chance of delaying and disrupting the electoral college proceedings if not resolved in time.

The right in general tends to be more like this in terms of believing anything that confirms their prejudices. Can't find the original article so I'll link to another one on Buzzfeed (not the best source of news admittedly), on fake news sites trying to figure out what sells:

Earlier in the year, some in Veles experimented with left-leaning or pro–Bernie Sanders content, but nothing performed as well on Facebook as Trump content. [...] As a result, this strange hub of pro-Trump sites in the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia is now playing a significant role in propagating the kind of false and misleading content

The original went into much more detail, what they're doing is selling clicks, and no-one takes the bait like the right, which includes Trumpers. Fox has figured this out as well, they're selling right-wing outrage and pretty much have a monopoly on it until you get all the way to nutcase sites like OANN and Infowars.

Good video, from a mainstream source. Note that "Peacock" is "NBC / Universal Studios", one of the three old broadcasting US stations, just rebranded.

From birth they are fed a diet of indoctrination about how America is so great because we had a revolution against the evil British, and that's how we got our freedom and our Constitutional rights! Rebellion is bred into them. The fact that lots of countries have a constitution, lots of countries have arguably more rights in practice, and that Australia and New Zealand got their freedoms by just asking nicely pales in comparison.
