"Pelosi says she spoke to nation’s top military leader about ensuring Trump doesn’t launch a nuclear attack"

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) told colleagues in a letter Friday that she has spoken to the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Mark A. Milley, about keeping an “unstable president” from accessing the nuclear codes.

Her letter came shortly after Trump tweeted that he would not attend the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden on Jan. 20, breaking with a long-standing tradition of outgoing presidents attending the swearing-in ceremony of their successors.

Democrats are increasingly eyeing a second impeachment of Trump in the wake of Wednesday’s violent takeover of the Capitol by pro-Trump rioters if Vice President Pence and Trump Cabinet officials do not remove him from office under the 25th Amendment.

"After inciting mob attack, Trump retreats in rage. Then, grudgingly, he admits his loss."

President Trump spent more than 24 hours after instigating a mob to violently storm the Capitol trying to escape reality.

Cloistered in the White House, Trump raged uncontrollably about perceived acts of betrayal. He tuned out advisers who pleaded with him to act responsibly. He was uninterested in trying to repair what he had wrought. And he continued to insist he had won the election, even as his own vice president certified the fact that he had not.

Only after darkness fell in Washington on Thursday, after the Capitol had been besieged by death and destruction and a growing chorus of lawmakers had called for his immediate removal from office, did Trump grudgingly accept his fate.

uring his 2-minute, 41-second speech, Trump read from a script that he agreed to only after a pressure campaign from Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, legal counsel Pat Cipollone and members of his family, officials said.

“My campaign vigorously pursued every legal avenue to contest the election results,” Trump said. “My only goal was to ensure the integrity of the vote. In so doing, I was fighting to defend American democracy.”

Yet it was Trump’s assault on American democracy over the past two months, culminating with Wednesday’s attack at the Capitol, that left him as isolated as he has ever been in his four years as president. An array of top aides — including Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao and Education Secretary Betsy DeVos, both original members of his Cabinet — abruptly resigned. Many more privately discussed whether to follow suit. Some of those who stayed on kept their distance from the vengeful president, and none stepped forward to defend his complicity in the attack — not even White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany, his professional defender.

Outside the administration, a growing number of allies have given up on Trump. Rather than trying to persuade him to do the right thing, they are simply hoping he does no further damage before his term expires Jan. 20.

“This is everything that everyone’s been blocking for four years, the role of buffering Trump,” said one of the president’s advisers. “It’s horrible. People are miserable. They can’t wait for the two weeks to be over. Everyone’s taking one day at a time trying to get him through the next two weeks without massive problems.”

The portrait that emerged from interviews with administration officials and Trump advisers and associates, many of whom spoke on the condition of anonymity to be candid, is of a president indignant, unmoored and psychologically fragile — one who some aides believe has sabotaged his legacy and threatens the orderly transfer of power to President-elect Joe Biden.

One administration official described Trump’s behavior as that of “a total monster.” Another said the situation was “insane” and “beyond the pale.”

“He is alone. He is mad King George,” said a Republican in frequent touch with the White House. “Trump believes that he has these people so intimidated they wouldn’t dare mess with him. I think Trump doesn’t understand how precarious his situation is right now.”

First time in over 200 years the government was breached

First time in 150 years the outgoing POTUS did not go to the inauguration

All in a few days.

Hard to see what else he will do in the last few days, I guess the self pardon has to be a shoe in.

freitasm: "Trump not going to Biden inauguration, the president announces two days after stoking deadly U.S. Capitol riot"

The child.

Which is good, I wouldn't have wanted the sore loser there either. At least all the other former presidents will be attending.

This is an interesting comment on this piece "Some state legislators face calls for resignation after taking part in Capitol turmoil" about state lawmakers caught on camera storming the Capitol:

Incoming Nevada state Assemblywoman Annie Black, a Republican, said she marched from the White House to the U.S. Capitol, where she saw men on megaphones revving the crowd to storm the security barrier. She said she retreated to avoid being associated with the mob.

“We all had a choice when that fence came down,” she said. “Whether it was our group that incited that to happen or another group, every single person had the choice to make.”

Yes, every has a choice to make and people who walked in made the wrong choice. It's called free will and you pay for your wrong choices folks.

Yeah, see you in a few years, mate... "Man pictured with foot on desk in Pelosi's office is arrested"

A man photographed casually sitting with his foot on a desk in House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's office at the U.S. Capitol while a pro-Trump mob rampaged the halls of Congress was arrested Friday, law enforcement officials said.

Richard Barnett, 60, of Gravette, Arkansas, was taken into custody in his home state on federal charges of entering and remaining on restricted grounds, violent entry and theft of public property, according to a Department of Justice official. Further details were not immediately available.

Images, apparently of Barnett, were splashed across social media as the deadly mayhem unfolded in the nation's capital on Wednesday, just as Democratic and Republican lawmakers convened to count the Electoral College votes. Members of Congress condemned the violence and rioting, which was preceded by a rally led by President Donald Trump who told his supporters to swarm the Capitol in defiance of the election results.

Also charged Friday in connection with the rioting at the Capitol was a state lawmaker from West Virginia, Republican Del. Derrick Evans, who had recorded and then deleted a video of himself joining the throng. A petition has been started for him to step down.

Senator Lindsey Graham (Republican-South Carolina) has been one of Trump’s most stalwart allies in Congress, but after originally echoing some of the president’s baseless claims of voter fraud, he said this week that Biden was the legitimate winner.

A traitor's to all Americans, from all political beliefs. 15 minutes of rationalization and evasion.

Lindsey Graham lashes out at reporters for their coverage of President Trump

Get all of them. All. of. Them. Including the Orange Turd at the top. They've planned this: "Extremists made little secret of ambitions to 'occupy' Capitol in weeks before attack (nbcnews.com)".

A digital flyer made public on Instagram and Facebook in December made little secret of the ambitions of some of the people planning to visit Washington on Jan. 6: “Operation Occupy the Capitol.”

That call to arms is just one of the many warning signs on extremist sites and mainstream social media platforms that extremism experts say were easy to spot but ultimately disregarded by law enforcement in the runup to Wednesday's riot at the Capitol, which led to the deaths of five people, including Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick, 42, who was reportedly hit with a fire extinguisher during the melee.

Washington, D.C., Attorney General Karl A. Racine told MSNBC on Friday that “there were no surprises there” when it came to what extremists prepared to do before Wednesday’s siege.

"Everyone who was a law enforcement officer or a reporter knew exactly what these hate groups were planning," Racine said. "They were planning to descend on Washington, D.C., ground center was the Capitol, and they were planning to charge and, as Rudy Giuliani indicated, to do combat justice at the Capitol,”

On the fringe message board 8kun, which is popular with QAnon followers, for example, users talked for weeks about a siege of the Capitol, some talking about it like a foregone conclusion. Others simply debated how violent the uprising should be, and if police should be exempt.

"You can go to Washington on Jan 6 and help storm the Capital," said one 8kun user a day before the siege. "As many Patriots as can be. We will storm the government buildings, kill cops, kill security guards, kill federal employees and agents, and demand a recount.”

Some users pushed back. “Why kill cops and security guards? I was under the impression the enemies were the high government officials and the rest are uninformed masses?” The Network Contagion Research Institute, a nonprofit that tracks disinformation trends, cataloged some of the threats before the rally. They said there was a substantial uptick in insurrectionist hashtags both on extremist sites and on the open web, specifically a large bump in traffic around the hashtags “1776” and “Occupy” in the night before the rally.

I was searching for something in this thread and stumbled on some posts from 2016 and 2017 where some people still put some effort to defending Trump's actions back then.

No surprise to see some of those same people were later banned, due to their escalating racist rhetoric.

My greatest wish is that these miserable morons will collapse in despair, as it seems some are already doing, as their false idol turns on them to save his own skin. These people deserve all the disappointment, frustration, crushed hopes and failed expectation that can be heaped on them. They deserve all the pain and unhappiness their imploding dreams can bring. I hope they wander the earth forever in confused anguish, never understanding why their stupid fantasies got stomped into the mud.
