Batman:

House passes motion. Goes to senate ?

Sending to the Senate

Now the House has passed the articles, Pelosi will decide when she sends them to the Senate. Under the current schedule, the Senate is not set to resume full sessions until January 19, which is the day before Biden's inauguration.

The Senate won't reconvene early, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell confirmed earlier today.

Even though the trial will be held after Trump has left office, it can still have the effect of preventing him from running for president again. The Senate will be held by the Democrats after Biden takes office. Two-thirds of the Senate needs to vote in favour of impeachment to convict.

Biden has said it’s important to ensure that the “folks who engaged in sedition and threatening the lives, defacing public property, caused great damage – that they be held accountable.

There are THREE times as many armed military now in Washington DC than there are currently in Iraq, Afghanistan and Syria.

Alternate reality prediction:

On 19 January, Trump will embark on farewell flight across country with cronies and supporters in Air Force 1. He will then command the pilots to fly to Russia, where he will request asylum and be welcomed by a grateful Putin, who will award him a Hero medal.

Declare himself President in exile and rally the alt-right from overseas? I mean... is it really that out of the question at this point?

The Washington Post -  4 takeaways from Trump's historic second impeachment

today  (headings only)

1. The break within the Republican Party is significant - but not huge

2. Most Republicans are dodging directly defending the president

3. Trump is not out of the woods yet *

4. Democrats don’t seem too concerned about the political repercussions

*   If McConnell decides to vote to convict the president, he could bring the necessary 16 other Republicans along to convict him.
That means it’s possible Trump could be the first president to be convicted by the Senate.
From there, only a majority vote is needed to prevent Trump from ever serving in office again.

Anyone finished puking yet?

(You can tell he had no input to this apart from the instruction to the speech writer to "protect my butt!)

He's definitely reading that off a script, no way did he come up with all that on his own. He sounds totally different when he's winging it at his rallies.

gzt: True Scotsman fallacy:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/No_true_Scotsman

Even a worm learns to avoid an electrical shock eventually.

Somehow he forgot to mention his impeachment.

I'd bet a house payment that Susan Wojcicki read the script before letting the president publicly break his one-week one-day ban.

"No true supporter of mine could ever endorse political violence. No true supporter of mine could ever disrespect law enforcement or our great American flag"

..."Now I am asking everyone who has ever believed in our agenda to be thinking of ways to ease tensions, calm tempers and help to promote peace in our country"

He did have "why's everyone always picking on me" snowflake moment.

..."Efforts to censor, cancel and blacklist our fellow citizens are wrong and they are dangerous," he said. "What is needed now is for us to listen one another, not to silence one another."

I think Trump's video been toned down because of this:

The Verge:: YouTube deletes Trump video and suspends new uploads

YouTube has removed a new video uploaded to President Trump’s account for violating the company’s content policies on inciting violence. The account has also been issued a “strike” and is unable to upload new content for at least a week. {Edit: which lasted at "least a day"} It’s presently unclear exactly which video prompted the action on Trump’s account, or what the offending material was. YouTube declined to provide specific details on the video’s content.

“After careful review, and in light of concerns about the ongoing potential for violence, we removed new content uploaded to the Donald J. Trump channel and issued a strike for violating our policies for inciting violence.” YouTube says in a statement to The Verge. “As a result, in accordance with our long-standing strikes system, the channel is now prevented from uploading new videos or livestreams for a minimum of seven days — which may be extended.”

YouTube also removed content from the White House’s official channel. Two videos that were on the White House’s official YouTube page earlier today — one where Trump was speaking to reporters, and another where he was making remarks at the border wall — have since been removed.

YouTube is also indefinitely disabling comments on Trump’s videos due to “ongoing concerns about violence,” which it says it’s done in the past to other channels with “safety concerns found in the comments section.” A second strike on the account would incur another mandatory two-week suspension, while a third strike would result in a permanent ban.

The hypocrisy of this "Presidential" speech is breathtaking, even by Trump standards.

Obviously he doesn't mean a word of it, but at least he has learned to read.

God Help America.  🙁

The amazing thing is some will take this as a smoke signal that he's being forced to do this against his will and they should do the complete opposite.
