Fact check: Men who stormed Capitol identified by Reuters are not undercover Antifa as posts claim

Just how big/real is Antifa anyway? I got the impression that they're more of a generic idea than any kind of organised movement, there aren't really very many of them, and it's often more a label applied by others to members of a random crowd than an actual identifiable group of people, a bit like Anonymous used to be credited for any kind of socially-motivated hacking a few years ago, as if it was some identifiable group rather than a vague idea.

Oh, apart from the US far right, for whom Antifa is the universal bogeyman, alongside "socialists", the CCP, Muslims, and one or two others.

As I said before - here is an example of "antifa" taking the "fa(scists)":

kingdragonfly: Trump plans military-style send-off for himself on Inauguration Day

"Gosh Mr. Soon-to-be-ex-President, all the boys would really love to throw you a huge parade to show how great you are, but there's all this paperwork to be filled out, OSH, permits, crowd safety (I'm sure there'll be a yuuuuuge crowd to cheer you on), it takes forever to file plans with the state, and then the boys need to get their uniforms pressed, belt buckles shined, that doesn't just happen instantly... tell you what, you sit outside on the street in a golf cart and wait, and when the parade turns up you can join in".

Rikkitic:

Watching the militarisation of Washington on CNN, I have to wonder what the odds are of one armed National Guardsman out of 25,000 being radicalised and deciding to go for martyrdom while taking out the new leaders. How unlikely, really, is that?

Completely unlikely. Those American patriots are only brave when they vastly outnumber the other side, are heavily armed with military-style weapons, know that the police are on their side, and the guys they're facing are carrying cardboard placards. Anything less favourable and they slink away and claim they were only there by accident.

SJB: Anwar Sadat, the President of Egypt was assassinated by jihadists who had infiltrated the army and were part of a march past.

I intentionally ignored this post, because I didn't want to give anyone ideas.

Looks like someone else had the same idea. Initially report by the New York Times saying the well-armed man claimed he made an "honest mistake," and his father saying what a good boy he was.

More recent news said he possessed fake inauguration credentials and 500 rounds, so his intentions were pretty clear.

He was driving a pickup truck with several firearm-related bumper stickers, including one that read: “If they come for your guns Give ‘Em your bullets first”

kingdragonfly:  Initially report by the New York Times saying the well-armed man claimed he made an "honest mistake" ...

The Washington Post - Man arrested at inauguration checkpoint says he was lost and didn’t mean to bring gun, ammunition to D.C.

I pulled up to a checkpoint after getting lost in D.C. because I’m a country boy.” ...

After removing Beeler from the truck, officers found that the firearm, a 9mm handgun, was loaded with a high-capacity magazine and 17 rounds of ammunition and that the pistol was chambered and ready to fire, court document said.

Police said they also found more than 500 rounds of pistol ammunition, including hollow-point bullets.* ...

I am sure that his intentions were honorable.   😏

EDIT  18 Jan 2021  * The reported quantity of ammunition has now been downgraded to "three high-capacity magazines, 37 rounds of unregistered ammunition".

Oh, a mistake. Right. Just like that dumbarse real estate agent. Despite saying that she was going to the Capitol and, well, you know the rest...now that she's been caught and facing the music she feels "persecuted".
I found out today that after this happened she changed the name of her real estate company and now only has 1 listing.

Can she still sell properties from jail?

Don't know how it works over there but they are going to have a hard time in general population. They will live but might have a scar or two to show for it.

Mind you, if Trump gives them a pardon (which I dunno how he'd do with all of 3 days remaining) they get to go scot-free, right?

They would need to be convicted first so no chance of Trump pardoning them. There is the danger that some future president pardons them for the sake of national unity, like letting that German guy out of Landsberg Prison in 1924.
