The Washington Post - FBI warned Giuliani ... of Russian disinformation campaign targeting Biden

breaking

The FBI warned Rudolph W. Giuliani in late 2019 that he was the target of a Russian influence operation aimed at circulating falsehoods intended to damage President Biden politically ahead of last year’s election ...

Giuliani received the FBI’s warning while deeply involved with former president Donald Trump’s 2020 reelection campaign and related activities in Ukraine to surface unflattering or incriminating information about the Biden family.

The revelation comes as the FBI this week seized Giuliani’s cellphone and other electronic devices as part of a long-running criminal investigation into whether the onetime New York mayor and personal attorney for Trump acted as an unregistered foreign agent. ...

Despite the alert, Giuliani went forward in December 2019 with a planned trip to Kyiv, Ukraine’s capital, where he met with a Ukrainian lawmaker whom the U.S. government later labeled “an active Russian agent” and sanctioned on grounds he was running an “influence campaign” against Biden.

That operation, officials said, involved Ukrainian officials and political consultants who the U.S. intelligence community has since concluded were acting as Russian proxies not only to smear Biden and derail his candidacy but also to curtail U.S. support for Ukraine. ...

Giuliani responded "Thanks guys, and who do I talk to about getting my hands on these falsehoods about Biden?".

I keep seeing news items on local politics and different local elections in America about how Trump worshippers have hijacked the Republican party and any politician who does not toe that line hasn't got a chance of winning any kind of Republican primary election. In particular, Liz Cheney has been singled out for evangelical shunning due to her independence of thought and action. I was just watching something on the state election in Texas, where it was pointed out that all 20-odd candidates, except for just one, have signed up to the Big Lie and other Trump BS. The one exception is dismissed as not having a chance. In other words, everyone who does not enthusiastically parrot the official party line, however blatantly false and completely disconnected from reality that may be, is sent to the showers. What other countries does this remind you of? And is this really how most Americans would want to live, should Republicans ever be in full charge?

EXPLOSIVE VIDEO REVEALS BIDEN PLOT TO IMPROVE LIVING CONDITIONS

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—An explosive video that emerged last night appears to show President Joe Biden plotting to use his power to improve living conditions in the United States.

In the video, in which Biden is flanked by Vice-President Kamala Harris and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, the President seemingly admits to having a radical scheme to use taxpayers’ money for the benefit of taxpayers.

After the video was unearthed, the response from Republicans to Biden’s controversial plot was swift and ferocious.

“Joe Biden works hard to project a ‘nice guy’ image, but this tape reveals the real Joe Biden,” said House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy. “A man who, all along, has been scheming to expand education and child care.”

Senator Rand Paul said that the video should prompt an immediate congressional investigation.

"Every presidential candidate makes outlandish promises, but no-one expects them to follow up," he said. "It's clear that Joe Biden can't be trusted."

The Washington Post - Liz Cheney slams Trump’s attempt to brand 2020 election ‘the Big Lie’

today

The era of making news by tweet has largely subsided - but Rep. Liz Cheney (Wyo.), the No. 3 House Republican, managed to do it Monday morning, calling out large swaths of her own party that still believe former president Donald Trump’s false claims that he won the 2020 election.

Cheney’s tweet marked an escalation in a war of words between her and the Trump wing of her party that has been building since January, when she became the highest-ranking of 10 House Republicans to vote to impeach Trump.

BIDEN BLAMED FOR WORST SLUMP IN PRESIDENTIAL FACT CHECKING INDUSTRY SINCE 1974.

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—In an employment trend that industry leaders are calling “dire,” many hundreds of Presidential fact checkers have lost their jobs since Joe Biden took office.

Harland Dorrinson, the executive director of the American Society of Presidential Fact Checkers, said that Biden has single-handedly destroyed the employment picture for many of the group’s members.

“Over the past three months, America’s Presidential-falsehood infrastructure has all but collapsed,” Dorrinson said. “We haven't had such a devastating downturn since Richard Nixon left office in 1974.”

Dorrinson acknowledged that many in the Presidential-fact-checking profession had become complacent during the four years prior to Biden’s Inauguration. “Those were boom times for our industry,” he said. “We should have realized that they were too good to last.”

He said that his group’s members were relying on the 2024 Presidential election to bring a much-needed recovery, and were “keeping their fingers crossed” that figures such as Ted Cruz, Josh Hawley, and Marjorie Taylor Greene would run.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2021/05/03/slow-painful-death-trump-allies-voting-machine-conspiracy-theories/

I thought the below comment (bolded) from the above webpage article was worth repeating.

"About 3 in 10 Americans think Biden didn’t legitimately win, despite the utter lack of evidence to bolster that claim. More alarmingly, 1 in 5 believe there’s actually solid evidence that Biden didn’t win, which there is not. And more alarming still, that position — that there’s this solid evidence the election was stolen — is held by half of Republicans.

You just sort of have to throw up your hands. It’s like repeatedly trying to persuade your friend not to send their bank account information to bankergloriajones@aol.com just because they recently learned that an uncle they’d never heard of left them a fortune. At some point you just have to resign yourself to the fact that your buddy’s going to lose a few thousand dollars.

People are far, far better at coming up with rationalizations for their emotions than they are at tempering their emotions based on rational considerations.

Sometimes you just have to wait for the train wreck."

Well... in a way those sad numbers make Biden's 54% approval rating look better lol.

Trump finally launched his own website (I thought he had one even before he was President?):

https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-56989500

It is like a blog. While it gives him free rein to do and say as he pleases, I wonder how many of his devoted fanbase will follow him to it, as opposed to Twitter, Facebook, etc.

The Washington Post - Facebook’s Oversight Board upholds ban on Trump ...

today

Facebook’s Oversight Board on Wednesday upheld the social network’s ban on former president Trump for encouraging violence following the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, a decision that holds major implications for how the speech of political leaders should be policed online.

But the 20-member Oversight Board, which is largely independent and funded by the social network, also left open the door for Trump’s return.

The expert panel took issue with Facebook’s “indefinite” suspension of Trump, calling it “vague and uncertain.”

It sent the decision back to Facebook and said it had six months to clarify Trump’s punishment and come up with a response that fits its known rules. ...

There's no fun in a blog - no follow-ups / replies = no controversy = "who cares".

Example from his blog:

"Free Speech has been taken away from the President of the United States because the Radical Left Lunatics... etc"

Without a thousand follow-ups from Trumpers posting conspiracy theory and "patriot memes", there's nothing to see, just rants of the delusional loser who lost.

Inciting a failed coup to overthrow an elected government = merely "encouraging violence"?  Imagine if he'd succeeded.  He's still calling himself "President of the United States" in his blog.
