What is so astounding, and so pathetic, about Trump is the transparency of his mental deficiencies. He is so incapable of looking at himself in any kind of even slightly critical light, that he simply cannot fathom how ridiculous he comes across, so he makes no attempt to hide it.

Vanity Fair: son-in-law Jared Kushner and Donald Trump probably won’t be splitting a milkshake with two straws any time soon

In the nine months since the House of Representatives formed a select committee to investigate the events surrounding the January 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol, numerous members of Donald Trump’s inner circle have refused to cooperate, preferring instead to risk contempt of Congress charges than reveal what is, more than likely, extremely damaging information about the former president. Surprisingly not among them? Jared Kushner, who was apparently more than happy to bring investigators up to speed on what he knows.

NBC News reports that Kushner—husband of Ivanka, son-in-law of Donald, and former senior White House adviser—met virtually with the panel on Thursday for more than six hours, after voluntarily agreeing to speak with the committee. While Trump family members have been known in the past to meet with officials investigating the ex-president only to plead the Fifth hundreds of times, Kushner reportedly saw no reason to stonewall the group. Though the details of what he revealed are not known at this time, Virginia Democratic representative Elaine Luria told MSNBC the former first son-in-law provided the panel with “really valuable” information. Speaking to NPR, Luria said, “I think that the committee really appreciates hearing information directly from people who have relevant facts about January 6, and the fact that Jared Kushner came as a witness is helpful to building the story of our investigation.”

Kushner was en route back to Washington from Saudi Arabia while the Capitol was being attacked, but the panel is obviously also interested in the events leading up to the insurrection (for example, Trump’s monthslong campaign to convince people a second term had been stolen from him, and attempts to get Mike Pence to block the certification of Joe Biden‘s win.) According to NBC News, “the panel had been expected to inquire about Trump’s false claims that he won the election and other information related to the deadly attack on the Capitol,” as well as “any dealings [Kushner] had with Virginia ‘Ginni’ Thomas, the wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, in the lead-up to Jan. 6.” (Last week, The Washington Post revealed that the committee was in possession of more than two dozen text messages between Thomas and White House chief of staff Mark Meadows re: overturning the election. One of them, from November 13, 2020, seemingly referred to Kushner, with Thomas writing: “Just forwarded to yr gmail an email I sent Jared this am. Sidney Powell & improved coordination now will help the cavalry come and Fraud exposed and America saved.” Powell, of course, is the unhinged Trump attorney who promoted claims like “there is a secret server that all the votes go to where they [are] manipulate[d].”)

In June, CNN reported that an alleged chilliness had developed between Jared and Ivanka and the 45th president, supposedly, in part, over the couple’s annoyance that Trump wouldn’t stop harping about the 2020 election.

The Guardian - Capitol attack panel scores two big wins as it inches closer to Trump’s inner circle

today

The House select committee investigating the January 6 Capitol attack is moving to capitalize on new momentum as it embarks on its final push to complete the roughly one hundred remaining depositions and conclude the evidence-gathering phase of the inquiry.

The panel has scored two major wins in recent days: more than six hours of testimony from Donald Trump’s son-in-law and adviser Jared Kushner, and a conclusion by a federal judge that the former president likely committed felonies to overturn the 2020 election.

Members on the select committee believe Kushner’s cooperation might prompt other Trump officials to assist the investigation as the panel inches closer to Trump’s inner circle and the former president himself ...

The Good Old Days ...

While I can't stand Jared Kushner (honestly, he looks like a smarmy git, IMO) I do have to take my hat off to him for co-operating with the inquiry. Moreso that he is actually helping them, unlike Trump's cowardly so-called "lawyer" John Eastman, who just answered "fifth" to every single question he was asked, like the coward that he is. He should be thrown in jail already - as Eastman himself would say - "for crying out loud".

That's exactly how narcissists work. They're like robots, they can't change. Now what would be astounding is if he at any point didn't behave that way.

Agreed. Trump is an extreme textbook example of a Narcissist:

Mayo Clinic - Narcissistic personality disorder

Symptoms

  • Have an exaggerated sense of self-importance
  • Have a sense of entitlement and require constant, excessive admiration
  • Expect to be recognized as superior even without achievements that warrant it
  • Exaggerate achievements and talents
  • Be preoccupied with fantasies about success, power, brilliance, beauty or the perfect mate
  • Believe they are superior and can only associate with equally special people
  • Monopolize conversations and belittle or look down on people they perceive as inferior
  • Expect special favors and unquestioning compliance with their expectations
  • Take advantage of others to get what they want
  • Have an inability or unwillingness to recognize the needs and feelings of others
  • Be envious of others and believe others envy them
  • Behave in an arrogant or haughty manner, coming across as conceited, boastful and pretentious
  • Insist on having the best of everything - for instance, the best car or office

Does this all sound like someone we know?  🧐

It would not surprise me if Kushner has his eye on a future political career. Who would be President and who first though? Jared or Ivanka? Seems like Jared is in the lead.

Sideface: Trump's first, last, and only "truth", posted in mid-February 2022

I would not be surprised one bit if Trump has been trying to extort his own company for a cash payment per 'truth' and they have not paid up. Because you know that would make no financial sense whatsoever.

The NY Times - Ivanka Trump Testifies to House Panel Investigating Jan. 6 Attack

05 April

WASHINGTON-  Ivanka Trump, former President Donald J. Trump’s eldest daughter, who served as one of his senior advisers, testified for about eight hours on Tuesday before the House committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol.

It was not immediately clear how revelatory her testimony was for the committee, but those familiar with the interview said Ms. Trump did not seek to invoke any privilege - such as executive privilege or the Fifth Amendment, as other witnesses have done - and broadly, if not garrulously, answered the panel’s questions.

Ms. Trump was one of several aides who tried to persuade the president to call off the violence that ultimately injured more than 150 police officers and sent lawmakers and Vice President Mike Pence fleeing for safety, according to evidence gathered by the committee. ...

Her testimony came days after her husband, Jared Kushner, who was also a top adviser to Mr. Trump, sat for an interview and provided what one member of the panel described as “valuable” and “helpful” information.

Washington Post: The new red scare: The right leans into pedophilia accusations

Upon learning that three moderate Republican senators — Senators Lisa Murkowski (Alaska), Susan Collins (Maine) and Mitt Romney (Utah) — would support the Supreme Court nomination of Ketanji Brown Jackson, Representative. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) offered the most derogatory, simplistic disparagement she could muster.

“Murkowski, Collins, and Romney are pro-pedophile,” Greene wrote on Twitter. “They just voted for #KBJ.”

This was incorrect in both the abstract and the specifics. To the second point, the Senate has not yet taken the vote to formally consent to Jackson’s nomination.

Nor is a vote in support of Jackson “pro-pedophile” in any rational sense.

Greene’s argument is rooted in accusations leveled against Jackson during her nomination hearings by Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) and others, alleging that she’d been unusually lax in sentencing those charged with crimes related to child pornography. As both fact-checkers and conservatives pointed out, those allegations were unfounded. But for many on the right, “soft on child porn” became a central part of Jackson’s purported philosophy.

It's the way of the Republicans now - you can say any damn derogatory thing you like about your opponent, with absolutely no need to back up your comments or provide any proof at all of your accusations.

Ridiculous. Why don't Republican voters open their eyes to the constant lies they're being fed??

I wonder why more public figures in the USA dont take liars on with defamation suits. For such a litigous bunch, I'm surprised those who make outlandish claims can get away with it.

I know some statements could be argued as opinions but some of the big statements should be fairly easy to prove as defamatory.

IANAL so there's obviously something I dont know.
