The Washington Post - Trump endorses Palin in bid for Alaska's sole House seat

04 April

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Former Alaska Republican Gov. Sarah Palin picked up a prized endorsement from former President Donald Trump in her bid to fill the remainder of the late U.S. Rep. Don Young’s term.

Trump backed Palin late Sunday in a statement from his political action committee :

Wonderful patriot Sarah Palin just announced that she is running for Congress, and that means there will be a true America First fighter on the ballot.”

A total of 51 candidates signed up by the Friday deadline to run in a special primary following Young's death on March 18 at age 88.

A re-run of 2016?

elpenguino: I wonder why more public figures in the USA dont take liars on with defamation suits. For such a litigous bunch, I'm surprised those who make outlandish claims can get away with it

In the US, defamation almost always fail, there's a good chance you'll get a Anti-SLAAP fine, and "any publicity is good publicity"

Alex Jones lost his, only because he pissed off the judge by actively refusing to participate in the pre-trail discovery process.

Alex Jones got a default settlement, which is almost unheard of in Texas.

Legal Eagle discusses how to lose a defamation case in the US. Summary You really have to be a dick to lose.

It's the way of the Republicans now - you can say any damn derogatory thing you like about your opponent, with absolutely no need to back up your comments or provide any proof at all of your accusations.

Ridiculous. Why don't Republican voters open their eyes to the constant lies they're being fed??

Substitute 'Retrumplicans' for 'religious people'.

I think it was Stalin, later followed by other admirers, who realised that people could be made to believe any lie if it was big enough and repeated often enough. It doesn't have to be logical. It doesn't have to make sense at all. Pizzagate is evidence enough of that. And I have no doubt there actually are people who genuinely believe the world is run by lizard people in disguise.

Reality is a slippery concept. Society can exist because most people agree on reality across broad lines. The problem with schizophrenics is they see realities that no-one else does so communication breaks down. The tricky thing is no-one can definitively prove the world is not run by lizard people and politicians are not drinking the blood of children to remain immortal. Most normal people dismiss such extreme ideas out of hand, but those who may not be so sure can slip down the rabbit hole without realising it. A documentary on the Heaven's Gate cult was on TV recently. These were intelligent and educated people who financed themselves by designing web pages in the early days of the Internet, when it was still a rare skill. Yet they willingly committed mass suicide in the belief they would be transported to Paradise in a flying saucer. At least that is how I remember it. I didn't see the recent documentary.

Never underestimate the capacity of ordinary human beings to embrace madness. There are examples of it everywhere. The alarming things is they seem to be spreading.

Yeah, that looks like it. I didn't watch it because I wasn't really that interested. I followed the story at the time it happened and know something about what transpired. I was just using it as an example.

kingdragonfly: Washington Post: The new red scare: The right leans into pedophilia accusations

The US far right is absolutely obsessed with pedophiles. Pizzagate wasn't some aberration by a few QAnon nutcases, it was a sign of how mainstream this obsession is there. As the WaPo says, it's a new red scare, but it's also like an accusation of witchcraft in medieval Europe, all you need to do is make the suggestion and within hours you'll have a social media rentacrowd with burning Tiki torches and pitchforks baying for blood.

About a year ago I was talking to a Fox-brainwashed person and they started a sentence with "I'd never have children today...", which I thought was unusual for a Fox zombie to be acknowledging climate change and the uncertain future. They then spoiled it by continuing "... because there are pedophiles everywhere". This is someone who loves children and is great with them saying they would never have children because there are pedophiles hiding behind every bush.

That's how seriously they take this stuff. This isn't just the far right conveniently using it to smear a particular person they don't like, it's a real obsession with them [*].

[*] As long as it's not one of their own doing it, as it frequently is, in which case they turn a blind eye - it's just boys being boys.

Oh yeah, another Fox truth I found out in the conversation: French president Macron is a pedophile. Without looking it up, see if you can figure out how they came up with that one.

Does Alaska's Special Election Create An Opening For Sarah Palin's Comeback?

I think she has a good chance in the Special Olympics... uhh, Election, unless Marjorie Taylor Greene also runs they don't get much more Special than Palin.

The orange buffoon attends the screening of a "documentary" that allegedly exposes how Mark Zuckerberg helped push the election in Joe's direction:

https://www.politico.com/news/2022/04/06/trump-every-day-2020-election-day-00023662

I dunno, if I was Zuckerberg I'd be having a conversation with my lawyers about this propaganda being out there.

Hmm. Is it because French guys tend to kiss  people on their cheeks? (face cheeks, I hasten to add)

Shucks, in *some cultures, straight guys kiss each other on the lips and walk around holding hands. *Hint: Not Invercargill.

He had an affair with his literature teacher and later ended up marrying her. For some reason that makes him a pedophile (logic has never been a strong point for Fox).

My reaction to this was (a) how very French :-) and (b) isn't it wonderful that a rather youngish president has an experienced older woman to guide him? The only response I got was "He's a pedophile! He's a pedophile! Burn the witch!".

They really are obsessed with this stuff.
