Day 2 of the hearings:

The NY Times - Jan. 6 Hearing: Barr Says Trump Was ‘Detached From Reality’

On the second day of the hearing, William P. Barr, the former attorney general, said in a recorded deposition that claims of widespread electoral fraud were nonsense.

[Barr] testified that he believed the president had grown delusional as he insisted on pushing false claims of widespread election fraud that he was told repeatedly were groundless ...

He’s become detached from reality if he really believes this stuff,” [Barr] told the panel, adding, “There was never an indication of interest in what the actual facts were.”

As the hearing closed, Rep. Zoe Lofgren said Mr. Trump used lies about fraud as a fund-raising tool.

The Washington Post - Trump’s inner circle warned him election fraud claims were false

A parade of top advisers - including the former president’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, former campaign manager Bill Stepien, and former attorney general William P. Barr - told investigators that Trump ignored their advice.

Executive Summary:

1. Trump was told, but he didn’t care.

2. Almost everyone knew that Trump had lost.

3. Trump raising money off bogus election claims was a 'big rip-off.’

and ... Rudy was pissed ... again:

The NY Times - The Fractious Night That Began Trump’s Bid to Overturn the Election

today

Donald J. Trump’s advisers urged him not to declare victory on election night in 2020.

He listened to the one who told him what he wanted to hear.  Rudolph W. Giuliani seemed drunk *, and he was making a beeline for the president. ...

They’re stealing it from us,” Mr. Giuliani told the president. “Where do all the votes come from? We need to go say that we won.”

*  Jason Miller, one of the president’s top campaign aides, told the Jan. 6 committee that Mr. Giuliani was “definitely intoxicated” that night.

A child's story:

Trump is having a dream.

He's walking along a dirt road, and comes to a crossroad.

A huge cloud of smoke appears and a devil appears, resplendent in a bright red suit, and carrying a pitchfork.

Trump approaches the devil.

The devil says "Since you are so handsome, with giant hands, and magnificent hair, I can offer..."

Trump interrupts "I accept."

The devil looking confused says "What? I haven't told you the details."

Trump says "I have got great insight, the best, and I'm sure your offer will be the greatest. And I'm busy."

The devil says "all righty then" and hands over the contract.

This just came to me. Isn't it amazing that they are spending HUGE amounts of money and labour to find out what we all knew in 2020.

Just a thought.

More primaries happening today. Of course, Trump is looking to bring down anyone who dared to cross him or disagree with him.

You're dead right, of course. Unfortunately, we, along with millions of other sensible, sane people around the globe, didn't and still don't, have the legal power to punish the orange turd 'appropriately'. This bolded qualifier I leave up to you and your various imaginations. If his penalty were up to me, this waste of space would rapidly regret being born.

And now for some GOOD news...

The Guardian - Trump loses late bid to avoid testifying in New York fraud investigation

breaking

New York’s highest court has rejected Donald Trump’s last-ditch effort to avoid testifying in the state attorney general’s civil investigation into his business practices, clearing the way for his deposition next month.

The state’s court of appeals said there was no “substantial constitutional question” that would warrant its intervention in the matter, following an intermediate appellate court’s ruling last month enforcing a subpoena for Trump’s testimony. ...

Trump and his two eldest children, Ivanka and Donald Trump Jr, agreed last week to answer questions under oath starting 15 July unless the court of appeals decided to step in.

GIULIANI DEMANDS RECOUNT OF HIS BLOOD-ALCOHOL LEVEL

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—An irate Rudy Giuliani has demanded an immediate recount of his blood-alcohol level on Election Night of 2020.

Witnesses to Giuliani’s behavior that night have pegged his blood-alcohol level at .20, well above the recognized limit for conspiring to overturn an election.

Speaking to reporters in the parking lot of the Four Seasons Beverage Barn in Silver Spring, Maryland, the former New York mayor alleged that his blood-alcohol level that night had been uploaded to a “secret Democratic Party computer,” where it was exchanged for the blood-alcohol level of Hunter Biden.

Giuliani’s claims, however, do not square with the Election Night accounts of witnesses who observed Giuliani trying to touch up his dye job with a Sharpie from the Oval Office, talking to an empty yellow chair that he mistook for Donald J. Trump, and persistently referring to 9/11 as “Seven Eleven.”

Where the hell do you find this, I couldn't stop laughing πŸ˜„

Also, a handy guide to most of the far-right nutjob groups in America. Some of the descriptions of what these thugs are prepared to do is quite alarming: https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-features/all-american-extremism-guide-1361035/

Also found this tonight. It's a classic World Party song (I remember hearing it when I was a kid - anyone else remember it?) but they did a whole new video for it in 2018. Very apt. Hell, they could probably end do to update it again now. The message of the song is still very clear, even today.

‘I know it would mean so much to him to see YOUR NAME on his OFFICIAL Birthday Card,’
Donald Trump Jr told supporters.

The Guardian - Trump Jr urged fans to sign his father’s birthday card (only if they send a donation)

16 June 2022

Donald Trump Jr has reportedly invited his father’s backers to sign the ex-president’s online birthday card, so long as they donate money to his fundraising group.

According to Insider, Trump’s eldest son made this pitch in an email to supporters, writing, “My father has done so much for this great Country, and I know it would mean so much to him to see YOUR NAME on his OFFICIAL Birthday Card.

Trump was born on 14 June.  So, sadly, it is now too late to sign The Don's birthday card.  πŸ™

New Yorker magazine. Yeah, he's a witty guy. However, a lot of his stuff refers to people and events that wouldn't interest most kiwis, so I only grab the most relevant.

Yeah, brilliant clip. If there's one thing us sapiens are super good at, it's hating and killing other people.
