In May, shortly before the raid, an anonymous employee testified that Trump himself ordered him to move boxes of classified documents out Trump's residence.

Played down by the New York Times, his testimony was backed up by video proof of the boxes being moved, plus the employee snapped pictures of the boxes in its new location.

So it's not a case if Trump actively attempted to hide secret documents; it's a case of how much more happened.

New York Times: Justice Dept. Intensifying Efforts to Determine if Trump Hid Documents

Federal prosecutors investigating former President Donald J. Trump’s handling of classified documents have obtained the confidential cooperation of a person who has worked for him at Mar-a-Lago, part of an intensifying effort to determine whether Mr. Trump ordered boxes containing sensitive material moved out of a storage room there as the government sought to recover it last year, multiple people familiar with the inquiry said.

Through a wave of new subpoenas and grand jury testimony, the Justice Department is moving aggressively to develop a fuller picture of how the documents Mr. Trump took with him from the White House were stored, who had access to them, how the security camera system at Mar-a-Lago works and what Mr. Trump told aides and his lawyers about what material he had and where it was, the people said.

At the heart of the inquiry is whether Mr. Trump sought to hide some documents after the Justice Department issued a subpoena last May demanding their return.

The FBI charging 950 insurrectionists for a violent overthrow of the US government by at least 950 hasn't (yet) made much of a dent. Yet a single inadvertently "hot" wireless microphone has.

This Trump testimony couldn't have gone any better.

I think in his mind "casting couch" rape and Hollywood is normal. He's perverted the course of justice successfully many, many times. In this civil case, his defense lawyer is doing exactly what he requested; in his mind, he's knows more than any legal expert. Lastly, like all always, he knows he'll be eating his cake, and some stupid rando will pay the bill.

In the deposition, conducted at Mar-a-Lago in October, Kaplan asked Trump about the “Access Hollywood” tape, a recording from 2005 in which Trump can be heard saying, “When you’re a star, they let you do it. You can do anything,” adding: “Grab them by the pussy. You can do anything.”

'Well, historically that’s true with stars,' Trump replied after watching a clip of his comments.

When the lawyer pressed him on whether he stood by the statement that a star could 'grab them by the pussy,' the former president said: 'Well, I guess if you look over the last million years, that’s been largely true — not always true, but largely true, unfortunately or fortunately.'

'And you consider yourself to be a star?' she asked.

'I think so, yeah,' Trump said.

Given that 'on the ground' insurrectionists are facing up to 25 year sentences, those up the line must be crapping themselves.

Except for T****. He is so up himself he will think himself untouchable. However, he surely is facing a wee bit of anxiety now with all the cases coming up?

Even if the underlings get 10 years, most of the leaders of the insurrection could see their lives out in gaol.

Please let it happen.

The NY Times - Donald Trump’s Time-Tested Legal Strategy: Attack and Delay

04 May

Attack. Attack. Attack.  Delay. Delay. Delay.

Those two tactics have been at the center of Donald J. Trump’s favored strategy in court cases for much of his adult life, and will likely be the former president’s approach to fighting the criminal charges now leveled against him if he sticks to his well-worn legal playbook.

In fact, his attacks against both the prosecutor and the judge in the case have already begun. ...

Politico - ‘Delay, delay, delay’: How Trump could push his trial into the heart of campaign season

04 May    [ no paywall, worth reading! ]

The ink on Donald Trump’s indictment has hardly had time to dry, but already there’s a widespread expectation that the former president will turn to a time-honored Trumpian strategy: delay. ...

Yeah, it does seem incredible. Still, I don't think anyone need worry about Trump being elected again. In 2016 he only just made it against an already unpopular Hillary Clinton, who then lost more credibility due to an unfortunate error by the then head of the FBI, James Comey, over the email server business. Russian interference was the final straw.

As they say, a week in politics is a long time, let alone the eighteen months until November 2024, during which time Trump will be fronting up to, and undoubtedly losing, a host of legal battles and probable criminal prosecutions.

On top of all that, it seems likely that the GOP will face more bloodletting in the coming months, while Joe Biden quietly beavers away at repairing America.

My money's on the Dems, by an even bigger margin than 2020. Trump's antics are only a distraction.

I hope so, but ... remember this?

The NZ Herald - Obama: 'Trump will not be president'

17 Feb, 2016

Watch Obama say it, at a news conference:

"I continue to believe that Trump will not be president. And the reason is that I have a lot of faith in the American people. And I think they realise that being president of the United States is a serious job. It’s not hosting a talk show ..."

I remember 2016 - almost every poll in the world said Hillary would win, and she did! But she won the popular vote, not the Electoral College. That's the one that matters (sadly).
