The Simpsons lawyer Lionel_Hutz is a better lawyer than any Trump could hire

Trump's already burned every lawyer that could actually keep him out of jail.

Remember folks: lawyers tend not to work for clients who don't pay.

kingdragonfly: Please, let him get contempt of court, and thrown in jail early.

Contempt of court in the US is extremely nasty, the judge can do whatever they want to you until such time as they deem the contempt to have ended, and AFAIK there's no way to appeal it. It's usually applied to things like the defendant arguing with the judge where they get some judicial slap upside the head, but if you decide to go full retard on it then it's an end-run around the usual judicial processes that you really don't want to get into.

Deliciously naughty speculative question: What if the judge (any judge) does get fed up and cites him for contempt? I see visions of angry hordes descending on his properties and probably federal courthouses and other government buildings to 'defend' him and stage torchlight rallies. What happens then?

It would be another stress-test of the justice system.

If law and justice prevails and torches and pitchforks mob loses, it means the US can survive a cult of personality.

If not ... well ... I'd guess evangelists would see it as a sign of the imminent apocalypse, and they may not be far off.

It would be a moot point as both sides are heavily armed. It's easier to defend than to lay siege and take a prisoner alive, not destroying the building.

Of course, German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche said "That which does not kill us makes us stronger."

Another Trump fail ...

Reuters - Judge dismisses Trump's defamation claim against E. Jean Carroll

NEW YORK, Aug 7 (Reuters) - A U.S. judge on Monday dismissed Donald Trump's defamation counterclaim against the writer E. Jean Carroll, handing a fresh legal defeat to the former president as he seeks another White House term.

U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan in Manhattan said Carroll's statements, made on CNN the day after she won a $5 million jury verdict against Trump for defamation and sexual abuse, were at least "substantially true," and Trump failed to show she made them with actual malice. ...

Trump, 77, filed his counterclaim in a second defamation lawsuit by Carroll, who is seeking at least $10 million.

A trial is scheduled for Jan. 15, 2024.

Donald Trump may soon be indicted by a grand jury in Georgia’s Fulton county for his campaign’s attempt to overturn Joe Biden’s victory in the state three years ago :

Imagine a personality as a dunking booth, and falling in the water tank and doing something against your own self-interest.

Trump's button booth would have a two meter wide button near the toes of the thrower, and the ball would be a bowling ball.

He has so predictable.

His relation with Judge Tanya Chutkan is going to be self-destructive. She's
  • a woman
  • Jamaican-born
  • in a powerful position
  • telling him what he can and can't do (in his mind)

It's not whether he'll admit guilt in court under oath, it is a matter of when.

A Few Good Men, Tom Cruise and Jack Nicholas come to mind.

Except it will be the Prosecuting Counsel saying to Trump - 'You can't handle the truth'.

The crazier Trump gets, the more I have hope that people will just get sick and tired of him. At some point one just has enough of him being constantly at the centre of media attention. Apart from the fanatics, people will get fed up and want to move on to things that matter. I said Trump was dumb, but his current behaviour makes him even dumber than I thought. He is stuck in the developmental stage of infancy and has zero impulse control. He can't contain himself and the ambulance chasers he now has for lawyers are being forced to defend ridiculous positions. Anyone who listens to John Lauro's pretzel rationalisations almost has to feel sorry for him. I wonder when he will also just sigh and walk away.

Brays and walks away?

Anyway, what seems to have become apparent over the last few indictments (great word, love it) is that Trump, in Court surroundings, is meek and self-effacing. His demeanor in those situations has been typical of every loudmouthed, but deep-down gutless, bully who's been called to account and deprived of his platform and circle of toadies. It wouldn't surprise me if he stayed that way, even if arrested and detained until trial, something that seems to be increasingly likely.
