Anyone who listens to John Lauro's pretzel rationalisations almost has to feel sorry for him. I wonder when he will also just sigh and walk away.

I suspect the second he realises he won't be paid a cent by the orange buffoon.

Delay. Delay. Delay. ...

Reuters - Trump argues proposed limits on 2020 election case evidence violate free speech

WASHINGTON, Aug 7 (Reuters) - Donald Trump's lawyers urged a federal judge on Monday to reject a protective order sought by prosecutors ahead of the former U.S. president's 2020 election trial, saying it would violate his free speech rights under the Constitution.

Prosecutors, in asking for the protective order, argued that Trump could otherwise improperly disclose confidential evidence before trial.

In a filing late on Monday, U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan ordered the two sides to meet on Tuesday and agree on two possible dates for a hearing to be held no later than Friday on the matter.

The Bulwark - Coup Indictment: Here’s Why Trump’s Usual Defenses Won’t Work

03 August 2023

DONALD TRUMP’S “DEFENSES” to the various civil and criminal charges that have been brought against him change shape over time like cinematic alien invaders: I didn’t do it. I had every right to do it. I never even met her. I may have met her, but she’s not my type. My lawyer told me I could do it. Hunter Biden did it. I did it, but it wasn’t a crime. It’s too insignificant to charge a former president. It’s too significant to charge a presidential candidate. It’s fake news.

But two of Trump’s standard, all-purpose defenses seem to have survived the test of time: (1) I really believed it. And (2) I relied on the advice of counsel. ...

TRUMP AND HIS ATTORNEYS obviously know that neither a supposedly sincere belief that the election was stolen nor the claim that he relied on the advice of counsel will be an effective defense if it comes down to a criminal trial.

Trump’s ultimate defense will have nothing to do with the facts, the law or the judicial system.

It will revolve around only one thing: getting re-elected so that Trump can either pardon himself or, more likely, rely on a carefully chosen attorney general to drop the charges.

EDIT:  His latest defense - martyrdom: “I’m being indicted for you.”  Typical self-pitying Trump BS.  πŸ™„

The  Matryoshka doll of crime that is Donald Trump is ensnared in so many high crimes and misdemeanours that indiscretions that might trip up a lesser felon tend to get lost in the volume of misdeeds that is the former president of the United States.

Here is another one that seems to have escaped media notice: Trump’s environmentally taxing 757 commuter jet. Trump uses this full size commercial airliner to hop around short distances between his various homes and court hearings, most recently a quick jaunt from New Jersey to Washington and back. How much carbon does that 200 passenger behemoth squirt into the atmosphere as it shuttles a single admittedly overweight individual around? The trip only takes about 4 hours by car or environmentally responsible train.

Of course Trump doesn’t give a flying F about any of this, and he probably can’t even spell environment, but it is still a point worth noting as the planet heats up and the Dakota Access Pipeline forcibly ejaculates oil across native American land.

Or to put it simply, Donald Trump is a monumentally selfish jerk!

It is widely agreed in psychiatric circles that Donald Trump has a severe narcissistic personality disorder.

Trump does not see himself as selfish - he is Perfect, and his Universe revolves around Me, Me, Me. He is totally amoral, and he can do no wrong.

All good, but using Comic Sans for a disorder description? It makes me sad.

Reuters - US judge sets hearing on evidence in Trump's 2020 election case

WASHINGTON, Aug 8 (Reuters) - A federal judge presiding over former President Donald Trump's trial on charges of trying to overturn the 2020 election has ordered his attorneys and federal prosecutors to appear in court on Friday for a hearing to help determine how evidence can be used and shared in the case.

U.S. District Court Judge Tanya Chutkan set the hearing for Friday at 10 a.m. ET (1400 GMT), shortly after Trump's attorneys and members of U.S. Special Counsel Jack Smith's office had clashed in a joint court over when to schedule the proceeding.

Prosecutors had said they were available all week, while Trump's lawyers had asked for a postponement until early next week.

Standard Trump Operating Procedure, again.  πŸ™„
