I would like to honour Liz Cheney. I do not need to espouse her virtues as they stand out like beacons in the night.

Donald Trump sits at the defense table with attorneys Christopher Kise and Alina Habba
at the New York State Supreme Court in New York City on Dec. 7, 2023.

The Washington Post - After skipping GOP debate, Donald Trump shows up at N.Y. fraud trial

07 Dec 2023

Donald Trump, the leading candidate for the 2024 Republican nomination for president, attended the New York civil fraud trial in which he is a defendant on Thursday, a day after he skipped the latest GOP presidential debate.

Trump, two of his adult children and his namesake business, the Trump Organization, are being sued by New York Attorney General Letitia James for allegedly inflating property values for years to secure better terms on bank loans and insurance.

The former president has attended several days of trial testimony, including when his former fixer-turned-nemesis Michael Cohen testified against him. ...

Trump is expected to be called to the stand as a defense witness on Monday, with trial testimony concluding shortly after that.

Look at that scowling, sulking face. He's hating this. I love it.

The female lawyer next to him is trying it on as well. That bloke has a fairly big smile on, though.

You'd look like that if you had to sit that close to him.

The male lawyer is wearing too much makeup. Maybe he should tone down the blush, so he doesn't look like Pinocchio.

New York Times: Trump on Trial: The Looming Legal and Political Collision

In the next few months, as the weather warms in Washington, something remarkable could happen in the city’s federal courthouse: Donald J. Trump could become the first former president in U.S. history to sit through a trial as a criminal defendant.

The trial, based on charges that Mr. Trump conspired to overturn the 2020 election, is scheduled to start in early March. And while the date could change, it is likely that a jury will sit in judgment of Mr. Trump before the 2024 election — perhaps even before the Republican Party meets in Milwaukee in July for its nominating convention.

Mr. Trump is the front-runner for the Republican nomination and is facing 91 felony charges in four separate cases. Putting him on trial either before the convention or during the general election would potentially lead to a series of events that have never been seen before in the annals of American law and politics.

It would almost certainly fuse Mr. Trump’s role as a criminal defendant with his role as a presidential candidate. It would transform the steps of the federal courthouse into a site for daily impromptu campaign rallies. And it would place the legal case and the race for the White House on a direct collision course, each one increasingly capable of shaping the other.

Throughout it all, Mr. Trump would almost certainly seek to turn the ordinarily sober courtroom proceedings into fodder he could use to influence public opinion and gain any advantage he can in a presidential race unlike any other.

“There is no useful precedent for this — legally, politically — in any dimension that you want to analyze it,” said Chuck Rosenberg, a former United States attorney and F.B.I. official. “The turbulence is particularly dangerous because if Mr. Trump is convicted, he has set the stage for a large portion of the population to reject the jury’s verdict. As part of that, it is also his call to arms, and so there are other dangers that attend to his rhetoric.”

The expectations of how a Trump trial would unfold before the election are based on interviews with people close to the former president. Already, Mr. Trump has sought to capitalize on the New York attorney general’s fraud case against him and his company. In that case, now underway in a Manhattan courtroom, Mr. Trump has shown up when he didn’t have to and has addressed reporters repeatedly.

At the Washington trial, there will surely be enormous security, not only because of Mr. Trump’s status as a former president, but also because the event could become a flashpoint for conflict.

Hey, have you had a light-bulb moment lately? Well, I have. Three or maybe four light-bulb moments.  In fact I'm feeling light-headed ( no pun intended) and a damn sight more optimistic about the future of America (and, of course, the World) than I did an hour ago.

So, if you want to better understand Americans and American politics and the Democratic Party and the Republican Party and Donald Trump and American Christianity and evangelistic craziness and the future of America...and much more...spend 56 minutes of your time watching this clip. If you don't have at least one LBM and say OMG at least once...well, you may be dead 🙄

No, truly. I now have a vastly better understanding of the situation in the Beleaguered States of America and feel better for it. And relieved. And optimistic.

The NY Times - Jimmy Kimmel Is Perfectly Prepared to Believe Trump Will Be a Dictator

07 Dec 2023

In a Fox News town hall with Donald Trump on Tuesday night, Sean Hannity asked the former president if he planned to abuse power if elected to a second term.

Trump declined twice to give an outright denial, saying he wouldn’t be a dictator, “except for Day 1.”

“I’m tired of these fake questions, like, ‘Will you become a dictator?’ Of course, he’s going to become - he said he’s going to become a dictator. Basically, in November, we’re going to be voting on whether we will ever vote again.” - JIMMY KIMMEL

“All kidding aside, how about Sean Hannity having to squeeze him to say he won’t be a dictator? I mean, how clear does Trump have to make it? Hannity was like, ‘Eh, want to take another stab at that one, bro?’ ‘Nope!’” - JIMMY KIMMEL

So everyone knows, Mary Trump is the niece of Donald Trump. In this family, Donald is the weird deranged uncle whose attendance at a family gathering is awkward.

So when she talks about her father it's Frederick Crist Trump Jr., older brother of the orange goon. Frederick was an American airplane pilot and maintenance worker.

Her father, again the eldest son, fell out of his father's favor when he chose to become an airline pilot, leading to his younger brother Donald "a honest day's work is for suckers" Trump inheriting the family business.

Did Mary get on okay with her Grandad (ie, Trump's Dad)? I got the impression Trump himself didn't think much of his father. I know Mary really doesn't like her uncle.

Trump to son Eric: "Eric you're a loser. I don't know who my wife was f__king, but it must have been a weasel. Just look at you ferret face. You disgust me. Junior is coked up half the time, and he's still less of a failure than you. Here's my orders: shut the f__k up next time you're asked to testify. Now repeat after me: 'I'm a disappointment to everyone who knows me, so I should just shut my pie hole.' Now get out of my face, weasel boy."

Eric: "I love you daddy."

The Hill: Trump says he told son Eric not to testify at fraud trial

Former President Trump says he directed his second eldest son, Eric Trump, not to testify again in the New York fraud trial threatening the family’s business empire.

“Eric has already testified, PERFECTLY…so there is no reason to waste any more of this Crooked Court’s time on having him say the same thing, over and over again, as a witness for the defense (us!),” Trump wrote Tuesday evening on Truth Social. “His young life has already been unfairly disturbed and disrupted enough on this corrupt Witch Hunt.”
...
State lawyer Andrew Amer pointed to a 2013 email Eric Trump received from another company executive asking for information needed to fill out former President Trump’s financial statement, according to The Associated Press.

“So you did know about your father’s annual financial statement as of August 2013?” Amer asked.

“It appears that way,” Eric Trump said.

Actually, Trump should hope he doesn't get elected. If he does, and civil war breaks out in the US, he could end up like Mussolini.

Benito and his girlfriend Clara Petacci are second and third from the left.

I think there are too many MAGA morons who would take the fall for him and (somehow) happily take a bullet to prevent him dying...even though he couldn't give a toss about any of them.
