RawStory - Trump complains about 'overpaid' lawyers and sets limits on what they can charge

12 Feb 2024

Former President Donald Trump often complains that the massive legal team he's assembled to bring him through four criminal and two civil cases are overpaid, according to a new report.

Some of Trump's lawyers were told not to charge more than $750 an hour after his political advisers blanched at their bills, the Washington Post reported Monday.

Their demanding client is loath to take advice and bad news from his cases sometimes spurs him to change his story, sources told the Post.

That’s the biggest issue of representing him," said a person who has worked with Trump in the past. "It’s impossible to get him to agree to a unified set of facts."

"Trump posts on social media without telling anyone," the report reads, "leaving his advisers and lawyers to read his missives at the same time as the public."

With four criminal indictments and multiple civil cases, the former president has built the equivalent of a boutique law firm.

Summary: In October Allen Weisselberg, the longtime chief financial officer of the Trump Organization, lied in sworn testimony when questioned about Donald Trump’s penthouse atop Trump Tower.

He lied badly and stupidly, to keep Trump on Forbes "richest people" list.

Every year, he kept emailing exaggerated claims of Trump Tower penthouse, and size, inflating its value by tens of millions and 3X the size. And in response Forbes emailed him multiple times saying it couldn't be correct. And because he has no morals, he'd reply by email defending the vastly inflated figures.

Which Forbes happily sent to New York attorney general's office, to be used against Weisselberg in his trial.

Ultimately Allen Weisselberg, once one of Trump’s most loyal lieutenants, was sentenced to five months for his role in a tax fraud scheme that led to the conviction of the Trump Organization last year.

In the upcoming March fraud trial against Trump, all sides agree. Weisselberg left plenty of evidence of Trump's fraud. The judge has already ruled he's a worthless witness and anything he says should be assume to be false.

USA Today: Lawyers on both sides in Donald Trump fraud case urge judge to ignore reported perjury inquiry

Lawyers for Donald Trump and the New York attorney general's office both told the judge Wednesday in his civil fraud trial he shouldn't delay ruling in the case because of reports a witness possibly committed perjury while testifying.

Government lawyers handling the civil case said they were unaware of any plea negotiations between Trump's former chief financial officer, Allen Weisselberg, and Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office, as reported in the The New York Times.
...
Supreme Court Justice Arthur Engoron is in the midst of determining damages in the fraud case and said Weisselberg’s credibility could affect his ruling. New York Attorney General Letitia James has asked for $370 million and a halt to Trump doing business in the state.
...
Engoron asked the lawyers Monday what they knew about possible plea negotiations.

“As the presiding magistrate, the trier of fact, and the judge of credibility, I of course want to know whether Mr. Weisselberg is now changing his tune, and whether he is admitting he lied under oath in my courtroom at this trial,” Engoron wrote. “I do not want to ignore anything in a case of this magnitude.”

The Trump Organization's former Chief Financial Officer Allen Weisselberg arrives at a New York courtroom on Nov. 15, 2022. Manhattan prosecutors are weighing a potential perjury charge against Weisselberg, Donald Trump’s former corporate finance chief, in connection with testimony he gave in October 2023 at the ex-president’s New York civil fraud trial, two people familiar with the matter told the Associated Press.
Engoron is aiming to complete his decision by mid-February.

Government lawyers also argued to Engoron that any potential criminal action against Weisselberg shouldn't delay the judge's ruling in the case because other evidence during the trial already showed him to be an unreliable witness.

"In sum, the fact that a defendant who lacks credibility and has already been to prison for falsifying business documents may have also perjured himself in this proceeding or the preceding investigation is hardly surprising," Wallace wrote. "If true, he should be held to account fully for his actions. But it should not delay a final decision and judgment imposing remedial measures in this law enforcement proceeding."

At the point where he needs the lawyers most, he makes them enemies.

A real Art of the Deal.

For excellence and superior brilliant staff, I'm sure Trump's boutique law firm is as well regarded as Florida State University.

Though Florida State University won't be bankrupt next year.

Desperate, or just stubborn?  😠

BBC News - Trump seeks Supreme Court pause in 2020 election case

breaking

Ex-US President Donald Trump has asked the Supreme Court to suspend a lower court ruling that he does not have presidential immunity from prosecution.

He had claimed in his election interference case he could not be tried for acts carried out as president.

Three lower court judges disagreed, ruling that he can be prosecuted like any other citizen.

But Mr Trump's lawyers said he should not be tried during an election campaign.

"Conducting a months-long criminal trial of President Trump at the height of election season will radically disrupt President Trump's ability to campaign against President Biden," Trump's attorneys wrote in the filing.

The Supreme Court will now decide if it will put the ruling on hold to allow Mr Trump to appeal. ...

EDIT:  This is the second time in less than a week that Trump has asked the Supreme Court to intervene in an unprecedented legal question that could shape his political future (and keep him out of jail) ...

Huh... Trump doesn't have a pinky ring. He seems like the kind of guy who'd have one.

He definitely has one, but it's only displayed during a kissing ceremony.

Jon Stewart is back. Skipping intro.

He first discusses the wild conspiracy that Taylor Swift and the deep state rigged the National Football League, NFL, Super Bowl game.

What was supposed to happen, according to the conspiracy, is that Taylor would announce her endorsement of Biden.

Another thing that never happened, though Qanon faithful waited in Dallas for monehts: John F. Kennedy Jr., who died in a plane crash off Martha’s Vineyard in 1999, was alive and secretly working with former President Donald Trump to save the United States from an evil cabal.
