Hmm...not so sure about that. I've always maintained that Trump has somehow managed to enthrall a sizeable chunk of the US population. And I mean enthrall in a literal sense, ie, to mesmerize, beguile, hook, induce, inveigle, lure, seduce, solicit. Even to grip, bind, subjugate and in some cases, enslave.

And were he to suddenly disappear, I believe his influence would vanish, if not immediately then over a relatively short time.

For cases studies of this, look at many other Trump-style dictators. To stay on top they have to make sure no-one even remotely capable of challenging them was in any position of power, which means as soon as they went the whole edifice collapsed as either a bunch of third-rate hangers-on fought ineffectively over the scraps or the whole shebang just disintegrated. The best-documented example was Hitler, but Ceausescu and others ended similarly.

More for the annoy thread, but posting bare links with no context, explanation, or summary, is kind of annoying.

Sorry I meant to add (clicked Post before the context) - says that Trump isn't only unpopular in urban areas, a few rural places are the same now too, as the story explains.

A look at how Republican candidates are basically telling Trump to shut up about January 6 and how they're being forced to comment on the stupid crap he says. But will he listen? Of course not.

If you disagree, consider where the US, and indeed the World, would be if Trump had never existed. This person is not only entirely surplus to requirements, his continued existence is a threat to everyone alive.

Sure, but as a general rule, politicians are nothing if not cynical opportunists. We have already seen numerous GOP figures try to out-Trump Trump because they know it's a winning formula. Ron de Santis comes to mind as the most recent - with the actual Trump out of the way, these guys have little to stand in their way. And some of them actually have the brains to carry out the worst.

Telling Trump to "shut up" only works if you take away huge chunks of his money.

So Republicans giving him huge chunks of money unconditionally, and telling him to shut up, is like giving ice cream every time a child throws a tantrum.

I'd advise the GOP buy anti-anxiety medications in bulk.

Arguably, not even that has worked.

At this point, they've probably got the old White House doctor on retainer, and are using benzos like sugar in their coffees.

Yahoo Canada: The newly unsealed sex offender Jeffrey Epstein documents have Donald Trump's name all over them. He had been secretly disguised as 'Doe 174.'

Over the past week, thousands of pages of court documents in a Jeffrey Epstein-linked lawsuit have been unsealed.

The documents name about 170 people who have come up in a legal battle between Virginia Giuffre, one of his accusers, and Ghislaine Maxwell, his former girlfriend who in 2021 was convicted of trafficking girls to him for sex.

Before now, the documents had been either fully under seal or partially redacted. Each of those roughly 170 people — a mix of Epstein's wealthy friends, his victims, and other people merely mentioned in passing — had been identified as a "J. Doe" in arguments over whether the documents should be made public.

Donald Trump is one of them ... Doe 174
...
[Where Trump is mentioned], three of those documents had not yet been completely unredacted.
...
The other six documents that had been unsealed all include Trump's name.
...
It's unclear whether Trump fought to keep his identity under seal in the documents.

In her December order to unseal the names, Preska said some Does didn't argue to keep their identities secret. For Doe 36, who's Bill Clinton, for example, Preska wrote that he didn't object to having his name unsealed.

But she did not include that note in her ruling for Trump, instead writing that "no interests that outweigh the presumption of access have been identified with specificity."

"This material should be unsealed in full," Preska ruled.
...
Victims talked about Trump as one of Epstein's friends.

The unsealed documents are not all damning for Trump.
...
[Lots of talk from a victim describing Trump's casino, and parties with Trump in attendance.]

https://www.newsweek.com/donald-trump-may-have-just-committed-new-crimeattorney-1885436

Another crime?? Oh well, add it to the pile, I guess?

Also...[Trump spokesman Steven] Cheung also said in a previous statement to various news outlets regarding the video: "That picture was on the back of a pickup truck that was traveling down the highway. Democrats and crazed lunatics have not only called for despicable violence against President Trump and his family...

Wait, what? I must have completely missed that - when have Democrats ever done that? All I ever see is Trump calling judges and Attorney Generals and Democrats deranged/insane lunatics etc. When have the Democrats ever "called for" this to be done to him?

Edit: then a bit of Googling revealed this article, which explained a bit about the above person: https://www.newyorker.com/news/annals-of-communications/the-face-of-donald-trumps-deceptively-savvy-media-strategy

In the US, on average, more than four out of five adults in the U.S. (84%) claim they have prayed in the past week. 55% say they pray every day.

The “Lord’s Prayer,” also known as “Our Father,” is a central Christian prayer taught by Jesus to his disciples.

For the shorter version, in the gospel according to Luke, it's estimated 67% of Americans have memorized it. In the US, the short version is frequently simultaneously recited together, in a “conversational prayer.”

So it's almost guaranteed if an American claims to be an active Christian, or a Bible salesman, they'd know it.

Trump tries to recite a prayer, Makes total fool of himself!
