ajobbins:

Stan: How can you give any credibility to golden shower gate? Have you read it? It's just more fake news.

There is nothing about the CNN report that is "FAKE NEWS". This is basically true for the Buzzfeed report to, as well as other media reporting.

CNN reported that a document was being examined by the FBI (acknowledged as true) and that document had a number of assertions that all have called out as unverified. They reported that a summary of that document was presented to both the President and President elect, as well as a small number of senior officials. No one has denied these facts.

The report itself is not fake, nor is the media reporting of the existence of the report or the fact it's being looked into further. The source of the report is said to be considered credible.

HOWEVER

The allegations or assertions contained WITHIN the report may be 100% false, 100% real or somewhere in between, but CNN and others have made this VERY CLEAR in their reporting. Even Buzzfeed did.

Buzzfeed are probably the only ones worthy of any criticism here, but it's not for posting "fake news", its for posting the source information that, while called out as unverified, is likley to be assumed by some as fact.

A real report that has unverified assertions, reported as such, does not fake news make.

How can this possibly be fake news? Gérard Depardieu, Russian citizen in good standing and personal friend of Putin, has publicly stated that big men cannot hold their water. Donald Trump is a big man. Ergo ipso facto, it must be true.

Apparently Marie Osmond will sing at the inauguration. Radio station announced that and clipped her singing Paper Roses. Quite funny.

Damn it.  I was hoping for Pussy Riot singing "Ubey Seksista".

Glad they finally found a desperate C-lister - or it was looking like it'd be the von Trump family choir.

I wonder if Buzzfeed knows how many turned him down before she finally accepted.

ROFL.

The New York Post?

Yup that's "real" - if you like "Headless Body in a Topless Bar" kind of news.

The weekly world news is more credible than the NY Post.

To quote from it's Wikipedia entry -

The Post has been criticized since the beginning of Murdoch's ownership for sensationalism, blatant advocacy, and conservative bias. In 1980, the Columbia Journalism Review stated "New York Post is no longer merely a journalistic problem. It is a social problem – a force for evil."[36]

Perhaps the most serious allegation against the Post is that it is willing to contort its news coverage to suit Murdoch's business needs, in particular that the paper has avoided reporting anything that is unflattering to the government of the People's Republic of China, where Murdoch has invested heavily in satellite television.[37]

Critics say that the Post allows its editorial positions to shape its story selection and news coverage. Former Post executive editor Steven D. Cuozzo has responded that the Post "broke the elitist media stranglehold on the national agenda."

According to a survey conducted by Pace University in 2004, the Post was rated the least-credible major news outlet in New York, and the only news outlet to receive more responses calling it "not credible" than credible (44% not credible to 39% credible).[38]

What's really scary is that Trump has truly excellent media lined up in his sights.

NY Times, Washington Post etc.  They're surely targets for accusations of "left" bias, but that's the world we live in folks, once well-educated, people tend to become "liberal", and actually the most liberal of all (anarchists, objectivists, "classic" liberals etc) are often avid anti-socialists.

What's absolutely brilliant about "Showergate" is that despite knowing that the content of the report was probably abject BS, it was released to the media by McCain, deeply conservative Republican, decorated military career, ex POW.  Sheesh - even I admire/respect him.

I'm starting to enjoy watching this slo-mo train-wreck evolve.

Trump's approval rating has plummeted. America is waking up.  8 days to go.

Ex-MI6 agent Christopher Steele supposedly behind the dossier. Also on Wall Street Journal.

And the document was commissioned by Republicans, not Democrats.

Bring on the popcorn!

The sextape is a non event - this is the real scoop..

Last April, the CIA director was shown intelligence that worried him. It was - allegedly - a tape recording of a conversation about money from the Kremlin going into the US presidential campaign.

It was passed to the US by an intelligence agency of one of the Baltic States. The CIA cannot act domestically against American citizens so a joint counter-intelligence taskforce was created.

The taskforce included six agencies or departments of government. Dealing with the domestic, US, side of the inquiry, were the FBI, the Department of the Treasury, and the Department of Justice. For the foreign and intelligence aspects of the investigation, there were another three agencies: the CIA, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence and the National Security Agency, responsible for electronic spying.

Lawyers from the National Security Division in the Department of Justice then drew up an application. They took it to the secret US court that deals with intelligence, the Fisa court, named after the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act. They wanted permission to intercept the electronic records from two Russian banks.

Their first application, in June, was rejected outright by the judge. They returned with a more narrowly drawn order in July and were rejected again. Finally, before a new judge, the order was granted, on 15 October, three weeks before election day.

Neither Mr Trump nor his associates are named in the Fisa order, which would only cover foreign citizens or foreign entities - in this case the Russian banks. But ultimately, the investigation is looking for transfers of money from Russia to the United States, each one, if proved, a felony offence.
