In New York's fraud trial, Trump continues to get preferential treatment.

He received no prison time for violating a mobster-style gag order ten times. If anyone else had done this once, they'd have spent some time in jail for contempt.

In good news, even though Trump is not under oath, all lies he tells to his probation officer will be used by the Judge as part of his sentencing. Lack of remorse will also play a role in a stiff sentence.

One of the standard questions is likely "do you understand that you are prohibited from associating with anyone with a criminal record?" I mean, that's his Shtick

The Daily Beast: Expert Describes Why Trump’s Probation Interview Was ‘Highly Unusual’
...
Mayor Eric Adam’s office confirmed to The Daily Beast that Trump was permitted to attend the probation meeting through Zoom, with his defense attorney, Todd Blanche, seated by his side.

That’s not the typical procedure for most convicted felons, however, said Martin Horn, a former commissioner of the New York City Department of Corrections and Probation who now lectures at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice.

Horn told The Daily Beast on Monday that Trump’s virtual meeting—with the added protection of his lawyer—was “highly unusual” and likely changed the dynamic of the entire encounter. He said pre-sentencing meetings are usually held in person, allowing a probation officer to ask pressing questions about a convict’s life without outside interference.

Those same questions were likely asked Monday, Horn said, but Trump had Blanche to lean on for answers from the comfort of Mar-a-Lago.

Horn said the purpose of a probation interview is to learn about a felon’s social and criminal history, their financial situation, marital life, and of any health issues that may be pertinent when deciding a potential prison sentence. Information gathered from the meeting is given to the case’s judge, who then takes it into consideration when deciding a sentence.

Trump, like all other felons, wasn’t under oath during his meeting. That means he could have lied or fudged certain answers without immediate consequence, but those hypothetical fibs—if confirmed to be untrue—could lead Judge Juan Merchan to issue Trump a stiffer sentence for not cooperating, Horn said.

OTOH a video I watched last night on this topic, the ex-criminal prosecutor made the valid point that in this specific situation he didn't mind that Trump received special treatment because having Trump go to the courthouse turns the place upside down and costs the city millions as they have all the ridiculous security requirements for an ex-president. He's not really getting away with anything because he still has to answer the same questions, although with his lawyer at his side there is a chance he won't lie or bluster much before he gets cut off with a 'my client declines to answer' from Blanche.

In Florida, the classified document trial, every delay is a gift to Trump. Florida Judge Cannon gave the defense another month.

In English, ifTrump's lawyers want experts to testify. they may submit the experts' names that would testify. With the deadline already push forward one month, the judge is giving them another month.

Some suspect that Trump lawyers will ultimately never submit a list of experts to testify for Trump, because it's strictly optional.

Any Trump "expert" would likely be torn to shreds by Jack Smith, making Trump's case weaker.

The Judge has steadfastly refused to set a trial date, even a July date that was proposed by Trump's lawyers.

Raw Story: Judge Cannon quickly grants Trump's latest request for delay

U.S. District Court Judge Aileen Cannon granted former President Donald Trump's request to delay a filing in his classified documents case.

On Monday, Trump's legal team requested a delay in filing to disclose the experts he intends to use at trial. Cannon first set the deadlines in May.

In a Tuesday order, Cannon said she was "granting Defendants' Opposed Motion for Extension of the Deadline for Rule 16 Expert Disclosures..."

This judge needs to go. She is seriously compromised and biased. Reading past posts about her, it is clear this case is way above her legal knowledge and ability.

On this matter is this article: Here’s What It Would Look Like to Remove Judge Cannon

While a motion to remove a judge generally has to be filed initially with the judge herself, the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals—the appellate court that has jurisdiction over Judge Cannon’s court—has “the authority to order reassignment of a criminal case to another district judge as part of our supervisory authority over the district courts in this Circuit”:

If a district judge’s continued participation in a case presents a significant risk of undermining this public confidence, this Court has the authority and the duty to order the case reassigned to a different district judge. Reassignment may be appropriate, for example, if a judge conducts a trial in a manner that creates the appearance that he is or may be unable to perform his role in an unbiased manner. [Emphasis added.]

So not easy to do but surely she is very close to the "unbiased manner" line ??

But if Trump wins and then dies during his term...you'd have a grossly inexperienced VP step into the reins. At least Michael Pence had some idea of how to govern.

I definitely agree here, the difference between how Republicans and Democrats have handled both guilty verdicts is quite striking - although even Hunter Biden has been found guilty, it still hasn't stopped some Republicans from taking a dig (read: Marjorie Taylor Green). I guess some of them just can't help themselves 🙄

She may be the greatest lawyer ever but I turned off when she started shilling for cocoa. I am absolutely sick to death of being bombarded by ads and I have zero tolerance for them. I understand bills have to be paid but this is a crappy way to do it.
