Kodiack: Tim Walz used to be my representative when I lived in the MN-1 district. He won that seat in 2006 and held it until 2018, when he retired to run for governor. MN-1 is traditionally a very red seat, yet he won it and kept it for a long time, even holding it when Trump won that district by 15 percentage points! AFAIK he’d never lost an election.

I’ve voted for Tim before, and I’m excited to get to vote for him again. Kamala’s ticket is a breath of fresh air. I haven’t seen this level of excitement since Obama in 2008.

Heh my partner is from the Twin Cities. She came here a while ago but still follows the local news back home sometimes (she once met Paul Wellstone).

Also from Newsweek:  Trump Claims MAGA Base Is 75% of Country

Aug 09, 2024

Donald Trump has claimed that 75 percent of Americans are part of his MAGA base supporters, despite polls showing he is trailing behind support for Kamala Harris. ...

"I think the base is 75 percent of the country, far beyond the Republican party, because we're a party of common sense and I'm a person of common sense," he said.

According to a national NBC poll in April 2023, only 24 percent of Americans had a positive view of the MAGA movement ...

Deluded, much?  🙄

YouTuber poking holes in one of Trump's recent campaign speeches. Usual stuff.

The thing that surprised me at 2:55 - The Fox News feed is advertising an Ivermectin save yourself kit while the Trump speech plays. I really thought that over. Maybe not.

Skip to 16:20 for "The kids' guide to president Trump."

I Signed Up For Mike Huckabee's Christian Nationalist Homeschooling Program
...
Now I get to show you the glory that is Mike Huckabee's Christoph fascist indoctrination program for kids. There are two things you need to know if you want to get a kids guide
  1. it's free
  2. t's a conservative group so actually it's not free
You have to pay for shipping and handling which is to be fair only a dollar but it's not actually a dollar because you also have to pay for a separate patriotic children's magazine
...
If you don't read the fine print you could end up giving Mike Huckabee $20 a month because, by getting your free kids guide, you are actually signing up for a subscription service. If you want to cancel that subscription service you have to create a separate account
...
Finally we've arrived at "The kids' guide to president Trump."

This one doesn't even wait to play the American exceptionalism card. It immediately says that Donald Trump ran because he wanted people to be proud of themselves and proud of America again because America is special and unique.

How are these the same people that rant about participation trophies?

So we start with some of the campaign promises that Trump made and it's all stuff that matters to kids
  • illegal immigration
  • radical Islamic Terror
  • political correctness
There's that trademark Christian empathy

"All of these plans and others were designed around the idea that America's interests should be helped. Mr. Trump believed for far too long, the governement care more about small groups of people and the rest of the world, and not enough about the majority of Americans."

It's just saying the quiet part out loud: It's fine to leave marginalized people in the dust so long as you get your way. It's funny how they say "the majority" because it's always "the American majority" until it comes to the Electoral College or people living paycheck to paycheck or legalizing marijuana. They don't mean the majority of Americans. They mean the majority of white Christian nationalists.

"Trump speaks his mind bluntly and some people don't like to hear it. He was more aggressive about this because he believed many TV reporters wouldn't report his ideas accurately. As a result he sometimes criticized those people and they didn't like to hear it."

I think there's a difference between criticism and calling the press the enemy of the people. The rest of this stuff is just about illegal immigration and Coastal Elites and draining the swamp. This has to do measurable damage to kids brains, right?

From 2020.

Medium: Nate White: A British writer penned the best description of Donald Trump I’ve ever read

“Why do some British people not like Donald Trump?”

A few things spring to mind. Trump lacks certain qualities which the British traditionally esteem. For instance, he has no class, no charm, no coolness, no credibility, no compassion, no wit, no warmth, no wisdom, no subtlety, no sensitivity, no self-awareness, no humility, no honour and no grace – all qualities, funnily enough, with which his predecessor Mr. Obama was generously blessed. So for us, the stark contrast does rather throw Trump’s limitations into embarrassingly sharp relief.

Plus, we like a laugh. And while Trump may be laughable, he has never once said anything wry, witty or even faintly amusing – not once, ever. I don’t say that rhetorically, I mean it quite literally: not once, not ever. And that fact is particularly disturbing to the British sensibility – for us, to lack humour is almost inhuman. But with Trump, it’s a fact. He doesn’t even seem to understand what a joke is – his idea of a joke is a crass comment, an illiterate insult, a casual act of cruelty.

Trump is a troll. And like all trolls, he is never funny and he never laughs; he only crows or jeers. And scarily, he doesn’t just talk in crude, witless insults – he actually thinks in them. His mind is a simple bot-like algorithm of petty prejudices and knee-jerk nastiness.

Just watched the Arizona rally. How is it possible for a NZer to continually get tingles up my spine while watching that video?

What a pair, Kamala and Tim are.

And the crowd... Wow.

What a contrast to Trump and his idiot supporters.

There is light on the horizon.

This all looks very positive but I hope the Democrats don't take their foot off the accelerator until Election Day.

New York Times: Arizona Grand Jury Wanted to Indict Trump in Fake Electors Case

A state grand jury in Arizona that charged 18 people this spring in a scheme that sought to overturn Donald J. Trump’s 2020 election loss wanted to indict him, too, according to court papers released on Tuesday.

But prosecutors, the papers said, recommended that Mr. Trump should not be charged, citing a Justice Department policy that discourages bringing state and federal cases against the same defendant that are largely based on similar facts.

The court papers, filed in Phoenix by the Arizona attorney general’s office, revealed for the first time that the grand jurors investigating allegations of interference in that state’s election seriously considered bringing charges against Mr. Trump. Some of the grand jurors even appeared to be upset when a state prosecutor suggested they should not.

“I have not recommended that in the draft indictment, despite clear indications from you all that there’s an interest in pursuing a charge against him,” the papers quoted the unnamed prosecutor as saying of Mr. Trump.

“I know that may be disappointing to some of you,” the prosecutor added.

When the Arizona case was filed in April, it accused some of Mr. Trump’s top allies of conspiring with a group of Republican operatives to create a slate of fake electors who declared he had won the race in Arizona when the actual winner was Joseph R. Biden Jr. Among those charged were Rudolph W. Giuliani, who had been Mr. Trump’s personal lawyer, and Mark Meadows, his former White House chief of staff.

Though Mr. Trump was never charged in the case and his name did not appear in the 58-page indictment, he was mentioned several times as Unindicted Co-Conspirator 1, described as “a former president of the United States who spread false claims of election fraud following the 2020 election.”

In the past year or so, five states, including Arizona, have filed criminal cases focusing on the fake elector scheme, which has long been one of the most expansive and complicated schemes used by Mr. Trump in his attempt to stay in power.

But only one of the cases — filed in Georgia — has formally included him as a defendant.

The Guardian - ‘A wise investment’: Trump’s $6,000 gift to Kamala Harris comes back to bite him

22 July 2024 (better late than never!)

As the Republican nominee refocuses his campaign to target Harris, there is one awkward truth that Trump will have to face.

What about that check for $5,000 dated 26 September 2011, bearing Trump’s distinctive signature, and made payable to “Re-elect Attorney General Kamala D Harris 2014”?  ...

The $5,000 donation was just one of several gifts from the Trump family to Harris at the time when she was working as California’s top prosecutor.

Records held by the California secretary of state ... give details of a further $1,000 check from Trump to Harris from February 2013 at the start of her re-election campaign as the state’s attorney general.

Trump’s daughter Ivanka is also listed on the database as having given Harris $2,000 for her re-election committee in June 2014. ...

As the Sacramento Bee reported in 2020, [Harris] gave away the entire $6,000 that [Trump] had given her as she began her run for the US Senate, bequeathing it to a civil rights non-profit working in Central America.

With any event involving Trump, the truth is always worse than what you suspected.

Reporter had speculated it was down to Trump mixing up names Governor Jerry Brown (white) and Mayor Willie Brown (black).

BBC: Trump doubles down on scary helicopter trip story

Donald Trump continues to insist that he once took a scary helicopter trip with former San Francisco mayor Willie Brown, even as Mr Brown dismissed the story as "fiction".

But it turns out another California politician, Nate Holden, did accompany Trump decades ago on a turbulent chopper ride, US media report.

Both Mr Brown and Mr Holden are black.

As usual, Trump only hires the brightest and best. (◔_◔) and one of Trump's campaign official was fooled by a phishing email.

There was a story last week that a Pakistani national with ties to Iran was charged in connection to a foiled assassination plot potentially targeting Trump. It involved the fellow trying to hire at least 25 people for a orchestrated assassination on Trump.

Going back even further, in 2020 Iranian commander Qasem Soleimani, was killed by a US airstrike ordered by President Donald Trump at Baghdad International Airport.

Politico: We received internal Trump documents from ‘Robert.’ Then the campaign confirmed it was hacked.

Former President Donald Trump’s campaign said Saturday that some of its internal communications had been hacked.

The acknowledgment came after POLITICO began receiving emails from an anonymous account with documents from inside Trump’s operation.

The campaign blamed “foreign sources hostile to the United States,” citing a Microsoft report on Friday that Iranian hackers “sent a spear phishing email in June to a high-ranking official on a presidential campaign.” Microsoft did not identify the campaign targeted by the email and declined to comment Saturday. POLITICO has not independently verified the identity of the hacker or their motivation, and a Trump campaign spokesperson, Steven Cheung, declined to say if they had further information substantiating the campaign’s suggestion that it was targeted by Iran.

“These documents were obtained illegally from foreign sources hostile to the United States, intended to interfere with the 2024 election and sow chaos throughout our Democratic process,” Cheung said. “On Friday, a new report from Microsoft found that Iranian hackers broke into the account of a ‘high ranking official’ on the U.S. presidential campaign in June 2024, which coincides with the close timing of President Trump’s selection of a vice presidential nominee.”
